COMMUNION

DigestSession

The Session of Brownson met via Zoom on Monday, April 20. The agenda included information on the “State of Brownson,” where the Ses-sion was brought up to date on the following: livestreaming, connect-ing and caring for our congregation, local mission’s efforts and the state of our finances.Much discussion was held on fur-thering our local reach to help feed the hungry in our community through the Boys and Girls Club, the Sandhills Food Bank and Neighbors Feeding Neighbors. Local Missions is increasing their grants to these or-ganizations while continuing to stay within their 2020 budget.Ministry Teams shared what their plans are moving forward as we continue to work virtually as a team.It was approved that a Congre-gational Meeting will be held via email on Friday, May 8 to vote on the proposed Nominating Commit-tee for the class of 2023. Plans are in place to ratify the email vote once we are able to resume gathering in the Sanctuary.

Brownson Church is a missional community called to love and live in Christ. We are living into that mission each and every day, even now during this global crisis. We are being missional through your generosity. In April, the Local Mis-sions Ministry Team worked diligent-ly with our local partners to discern the greatest need in our local com-munity. By combining efforts with the Global Missions Ministry Team, Brownson was able to donate $27,500 to local organizations to feed the hun-gry in Moore County. This is in addi-tion to our normal annual funding. I am so proud of our Ministry Teams and Session for acting quickly to make sure those who need food are being fed. Brownson’s funding went to: The Boys and Girls Club, Sandhills Food Bank, Team Green in partner-ship with Neighbors Feeding Neigh-bors and Moore Buddies. Because of your generosity, we were able to be a missional community right here in Moore County.Brownson members continue to care for one another even though we can-not be together. Our Session, staff and volunteers are making sure our most vulnerable congregants are called and helped in any way we can. Just a simple phone call checking in on one another has provided a great source of comfort to us all.We continue to connect each week and provide worship through lives-tream. Not only are we reaching our

own local congregation, but many are watching from other parts of the country. This year, through lives-tream, our Easter Sunday service reached just under 3,000 people across the internet, compared to 917 in wor-ship in the Sanctuary in 2019. We are sharing the good news through this technology that will continue to grow and provide a new opportunity to worship each and every week.Because of your generosity, Brown-son continues to see strong pledge income, even during this uncertain time. Because of this, we are able to continue to pay our nursery staff, BLC teachers, and all of our church staff. Please know that we are all working hard, even from home, to continue to provide worship services, disciple-ship opportunities, programming for children and youth as well as keep-ing our campus running even though we cannot use it. For this, I am truly grateful.Brownson is a vibrant and growing church, and it is such an honor and blessing to know that even during this crazy time in our world, we continue to be the hands and feet of Christ.I hope to be able to worship with you in person very soon. I don’t know what that will look like, or how we will begin to ease back into being to-gether again, but I do know that I am praying about it and plan to take the most cautious approach for the health and safety of all of you. I am looking forward to seeing you all in person in the near future!

As Brownson Church, along with churches across America, was faced with a new challenge, we worked tirelessly during the past two months to bring worship to you online. Although there were a few glitches along the way, we have been getting better and better and learning more and more each week. We hope that this has been a meaningful experience for you, your family, and your friends as you look for comfort during this uncertain time. You can see that our services have been a success and that we are reaching people more now than ever before. These numbers are for all services that took place at Brownson during Holy Week.If you want to watch an archived service, visit our website: brown-sonchurch.org and click on the Services on Replay on the home page.

Where are you in your walk with Jesus? The journey for the early Christians from Lent to Easter included the suffering, pain, hopeless-ness, empty tomb, and exhilarating joy of new and glorious life. Our Easter journey as Chris-tians parallels that of Jesus’ disciples. How rel-evant is our walk today—as we struggle with anxiety, loss, and isolation. We might not know exactly when our “Easter” from this crisis will come—but we can rely on our risen Lord to be truly present with us through it all, even when others can’t be. Celebrating the Easter season marks the space between an empty tomb and a room filled by the Holy Spirit, the shift between followers in a room hiding in fear and those gathered in hope, the feeling between the vision of a transformed Jesus and transformed believers. As we take each step on our journey to Pentecost, may we walk together to celebrate the pouring out of the Holy Spirit upon us. We must not leave one soul behind. If you or someone you know needs to be carried on this walk, please seek the transformative gift of a Stephen Minister. We are called to “walk in newness of life” (Rom. 6:4). As shared by one Care Receiver, “I learned to trust that through God’s grace, something beautiful and new would emerge even in the face of my weakness, tears, pain and hopelessness. I too would live again, now and forever.”

Children’s Ministry wouldn’t exist without countless amazing, wonderful, joyful, help-ful, and super awesome volunteers! Whether you have served as a Sunday School teach-er, a Kids Corner Volunteer, a Kids Connect Volunteer, provided dinner, or braved the bus on a special event, I am forever grateful for you. Thank you for supporting me, but mainly for loving the children at Brownson. Through you, they see the love of Jesus, but they also see what it means to be a servant in our church. It’s a fun time with music and lessons with Ms. Kelli (Facebook.com/brownsonchurch).

While no one saw this coming, Brownson Kids are learning, worshiping, and having fellowship during this Global pandemic! We have learned that God is in control, de-spite our world feeling a little out of control. We have learned that God is still good, and worthy of our praise! And we’ve learned to look a little more closely, recognizing dif-ferent ways that God is at work, and how we can see Him even in our own homes. Brownson Kids meet every Sunday morn-ing via Zoom for Sunday School, Monday mornings for Kids Corner (Kids Worship time), and a family devotion is provided for families to delve deeper together. We are grateful for everyone’s flexibility and love during this time!

Brownson Learning CenterHonoring our wonderful teachers is an ab-solute privilege. When we went into this school year, we never imagined where it would lead us, but we are so thankful for the hard work and dedication of our amazing BLC staff. These teachers pour their hearts and souls into everything they do and they continue to find fun and creative ways to connect with our BLC students through online gatherings, sending activities, personal notes, phone calls, FaceTime calls and of course prayer. We are beyond blessed with the very best teaching staff around.

A note from your Moderator: I am so proud of the PW and feel that it was an honor to serve as your Moderator this year. This group of women have worked so hard, from the Circle leaders and their members to the Coordinat-ing Team. Many of you serve in other areas of the church and I was always so impressed with your dedication. I take many memories with me from this past year, but my fondest is the sup-port that you gave. Each Modera-tor does the best of her ability, and I can honestly say that I gave my all, because I believe in the tradi-tions that make up the PW. Thank you for having trusted me to serve as your Moderator in 2019/2020.

DLocal MissionsLocal Donations

The Local Missions Team regularly make a difference with our partners to deter-mine where and how Brownson Church can be most impactful, and we are seeing changing needs each time we connect. Our primary focus has been food and housing for at-risk individuals and fam-ilies, and we are directing extra funding to the organizations doing above and beyond with respect to these two basic needs. We are working hard to balance the needs of the community while being mindful of budgetary guidelines. Our Session has been extremely supportive and encourages us to be generous in our giving at this time of extreme need.Last month, housing assistance was the strongest need communicated by our partners. As a result, we were able to disburse additional funding to the Sandhills Coalition and Family Promise, both of which were struggling to meet the needs of the community. In our most recent discussions, needs have shifted slightly and feeding hungry children and families in the community has be-come an even greater need. In response to this, we will be disbursing additional funds to the Boys and Girls Club of the Sandhills, Neighbors Feeding Neigh-bors (for more information, please see teamgreeninc.org and the Facebook page: neighborsfeedingneighborsmoore, and the Sandhills Food Bank. These or-ganizations are doing remarkable work in their efforts to feed hungry children and families who are struggling just to put food on the table at this unprece-dented time.

In April, Brownson donated the fol-lowing to local partners:

• $7,500 to Boys & Girls Club• $5,000 to Food Bank• $10,000 to Team Green, Neighbors Feeding Neighbors• $5,000 to Moore Buddies

In addition to funding, these wor-thy organizations also are in need of helping hands. If you are interested in volunteering to help with delivering meals, sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050d4ba4a72ba5ff2-sum-mer.If you would like to volunteer at the food bank, here is how you can sign up. https://volunteer.foodbankcenc.org/custom/519/#/volunteer_homeBecause of your generous pledges and continued contributions, as well as the care and unyielding support of Session and our church leaders, Brownson is able to make a signif-icant difference for local organiza-tions who are doing so much for individuals and families in need in our community. Amid this crisis, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community in need.

GLOBAL MISSIONSBecause of the global pandemic, Brownson has decided to cancel the 2020 Mission Trip to Peru. Because of this cancellation, significant budgeted funds have been moved to Local Missions to support their efforts in feeding the hungry in Moore County.Rise Against Hunger has been postponed for now, but look for event details in the com-ing months.
