Part 3 By Wes Pinkley Senior Pastor Ekron Baptist Church Last week I began to share what it takes to be a Christian. I noted that three key elements exist. In that issue we talked of Christ as Savior; today we shall look at His lordship. Lordship, that is sur- rendering to Christ as your leader in life, has a lot to do with obedience and being a disciple. Let’s face Minister’s Corner it, Christianity is not about doing life on your own, or in your own strength. As a matter of fact, living on your own without God is sin, and that is why we need a savior in the first place; as last week’s article pointed out. A person needs Christ as Lord because they need change. It was because of following his own ways that leads a man away from God through sin in the first place, thus his need is for God to lead him in new paths of behavior, thinking, and heart. God does not save a person to simply give him another chance on his own. God saves a person and then works in him the sanctification process, renewing a man’s heart and mind to be like Jesus. (Romans 8:29) at is the essence of lordship. It is about following Christ. (Mark 8:34) God loves you and works to bring you to a way of living that is most beneficial. is takes time, but God is patient. ink of Christ’s lordship as a teacher helping a stu- dent. I once needed to find Miss Ruby’s house. She lived so far back in Floyd County, Georgia that her road made Old Ekron Rd. look like I-64. I could never find her home. As Lord, Jesus takes the pains and triumphs of life and uses His Holy Spirit and the Bible to help us make sense of things, which in turn grows us in spiritual matu- rity. (Romans 8, 1 Corinthians 10:13, James 1) We get to know God when we look at life in relation to His scrip- tures. (2 Timothy 3:16) A Christian wants to change and desires to be taught. Last week I began to share what it takes to be a Christian. I noted that three key elements exist. In that issue we talked of Christ as Savior; today we shall look at His lordship.

Lordship, that is sur-rendering to Christ as your leader in life, has a lot to do with obedience and being a disciple. Let’s face

Minister’s Corner it, Christianity is not about doing life on your own, or in your own strength. As a matter of fact, living on your own without God is sin, and that is why we need a savior in the first place; as last week’s article pointed out.

A person needs Christ as Lord because they need change. It was because of following his own ways that leads a man away from God through sin in the first place, thus his need is for God to lead him in new paths of behavior, thinking, and heart.

God does not save a person to simply give him another chance on his own. God saves a person and

then works in him the sanctification process, renewing a man’s heart and mind to be like Jesus. (Romans 8:29) That is the essence of lordship. It is about following Christ. (Mark 8:34)

God loves you and works to bring you to a way of living that is most beneficial. This takes time, but God is patient.

Think of Christ’s lordship as a teacher helping a stu-dent. I once needed to find Miss Ruby’s house. She lived so far back in Floyd County, Georgia that her road made Old Ekron Rd. look like I-64. I could never find her home. But, one day Jimmy Sutton acted as a lord and taught me how to get there. I drove, he directed. We had success.

As Lord, Jesus takes the pains and triumphs of life and uses His Holy Spirit and the Bible to help us make sense of things, which in turn grows us in spiritual matu-rity. (Romans 8, 1 Corinthians 10:13, James 1) We get to know God when we look at life in relation to His scrip-tures. (2 Timothy 3:16)
