A very warm welcome to you. Lowell High School is a young and energetic school, located in the heart of beautiful Vancouver. We provide a fantastic learning environment for our students through inquiry-based instruction, further enhanced by a team of teachers and sta� who embrace student success.

As we enter our fourth year, we set our sites on becoming an IB World School. It is wonderful to share that we are o�cially an IB Candidate School, preparing to be recognized as a school o�ering a world class education.

At Lowell, we aim to provide the best educational experience possible for our students. Our teachers are dedicated to teach to the best of their ability, engaging and supporting each student as they develop the necessary skills to be promoted each year, and ultimately to enter the University or College of their choice. Work will be rigorous, and our standards remain high as we strive to develop critically thinking students who are prepared to compete with students across the globe.

Within the community, Lowell students will be seen as thoughtful, empathetic, and engaged students. Students who listen to the needs of their environment and take action to create positive change. Parents are our partners on this journey. Academic results are important, but as clearly outlined within the new B.C. Ministry of Education curricular reforms, top marks are no longer enough for university entrance. Students with broad global perspectives, critical thinking skills, and passion to improve our world are more sought after than ever before.

Mr. Paul R. Cohee

Mr. Cohee is an educator with more than 25 years of experience as both a teacher and an administrator. He cherishes the opportunity to work with students and parents who are striving to reach their dreams and accomplish significant goals. With degrees, diplomas, and certificates from University of British Columbia, San Diego State University and Harvard University, Mr. Cohee values an international perspective. He cultivates an environment where learning is intended to be challenging, enjoyable, and relevant.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

The English for Academic Purposes program helps students improve their academic language skills including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will also learn skills that will help them achieve success in their chosen field.

Top University Pathways Program (TUP)Canadian universities offer more than 15,000 graduate and undergraduate programs in a broad range of disciplines. Our TUP program will help students plan their education path, and where to study in Canada or the US. We provide up-to-date information on the best universities, which are consistently ranked among the top internationally recognized post-secondary institutions. Our students have received and accepted offers from the following universities:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

IELTS is the world’s leading English language assessment, and it is required for university or college admission. Our school supports academic preparatory IELTS training courses and language classes, to ensure that our students are prepared for the next step in their education.

Outdoor Educational Program (OE)Our OE program is focused on outdoor activities, which allow our students to develop leadership skills, communication, teamwork, and collabora-tion. This program also helps the students develop a better understanding of the natural environment, their social responsibilities, and healthy living, in a variety of contexts and situations.

International Baccalaureate Candidate School (IB)

Lowell High School is a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme. Our school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy, and a commitment to high-quality and challenging international education, which is important for our students.

* Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can o�er any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Advanced Placement Program (AP)Our School supports the AP program, that enables willing students to pursue college level studies while still in high school. Our school can guide the students that would like to follow this path, to fulfil graduation requirements early, or to skip introductory or required general education courses at the university or college level.

MEDICAL INSURANCEMedical insurance from the Medical Services Plan of British Columbia (MSP) is free of charge for all International students under the age of 19; coverage begins at the end of a three-month waiting period. During that three-month period, the student must have private insurance. Lowell can provide the students with private medical insurance.

HOMESTAYEnjoy and embrace the Canadian lifestyle by living with a host family. Homestays are excellent value for money. Our families are carefully selected to make you feel as though you are in a “home away from home.”

CUSTODIANSHIPAll students under the age of 19 must be cared for by a responsible adult while in Canada. If the student will not be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, custodianship must be arranged.
