    Date: February 13, 2015

    Course/Instructor: Visual Media, Cory Kerr

Process: I began by gathereing eight different images from the web. After editing the earth I added the background nebula and the beam of vertical light. I used a mask to blend the images. By using a color balance filter I added more violet to the entire image in order to give it a sense of unity. Saturn, Mars, Venus, and Jupiter were all separate images that were cut using the laso tool. I applied masks to each of these images in order to further blend them. The green nebula at the top of the image was then added in order to complete my color scheme. Text was then added as I created an individual text box for each line. By adjusting the opacity of the letters I achieved a sense of hierarchy. Program/Tool: Adobe Photoshop

  • Brochure

    Date: March 28, 2015

    Course/Instructor: Visual Media, Cory Kerr

    Description: A two-sided color brochure.

Process: (Programs, Tools, Skills): I began this project by sketching ideas and practice folding in order to find a good layout for my brochure. I then used Adobe Indesign to place markers and margins so that the front and back of my design would match up. Images were edited in Photoshop in order to combine elements. I used repetition among the images as Jupiter and Europa mirror the Earth and its moon when unfolded. The logo was created purely in Illustrator using a font I font online and laid on top of the image.

    Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Message: Inform the reader about Europa and why the scientific community has interest in it.

Audience: Individuals who want to learn about science and the solar system.

  • Imaging

    Date: February 8, 2015

    Course/Instructor: Visual Media, Cory Kerr

Description: Demonstrate skills in photography and Pho-toshop. Learn to edit an original picture and add different color and design elements.

Process: This image consists of primarily two pictures. I captured this shot of a fierce leopard in the university museum. I then photographed the university greenhouse in order to create a jungle setting for the backdrop. I used the burn tool in Photoshop to great extent in order to get the lighting within both pictures to flow naturally. I then used the sharpen tool in order to bring out the eyes and teeth of the cat. A very important part of blending the cut image of the cat with his jungle background was the use of the smudge tool. This took care of the jagged edges which made the picture seem unnatural. By incorporating design elements I was able to structure an information card along the bottom left hand side of the image. By using the eye drop-per tool I orchestrated the gold part of the globe to match with the lighter parts of the leopard.

  • Letterhead

    Date: March 1, 2015

    Course/Instructor: Visual Media, Cory Kerr

Description: A letterhead designed with an original logo.

Process: For the letterhead, I placed the cir-cular design on the top of the page. I then expanded the logo to cover the width of the page. I placed a colored background to match the color scheme and then turned the transparency to 5% to achieve a light tint to the letterhead. I did the small with the logo design of the mountain to give the body of the letter a unique marking.

    Tools: InDesign

  • LogosDate: February 22, 2015

    Course/Instructor: Visual Media, Cory Kerr

Description: A variation of logo designs for the same com-pany.

Process: By using strictly Adobe Illustrator I was able to cre-ate three unique and original designs. I used the shape tool to construct different images. Through the use of Pathfinder tool, I was able to delete sections of shapes in order to achieve the look I de-sired. I utilized strokes in order to create disconnect among my images and make something unique. I used light colors for the background of each logo, which in turn allowed the rest of the images to stand out.

How these logos represent the company: Rockside Dental is a dental practice in Tucson, Arizona. The Saguaro cactus and the rocky landscapes are iconic of this region. These logos present the company as a friendly place that families and in-dividuals can trust. They are professional yet vibrant, taking the colors of the region and incorporating them into a meaningful representation of where these people live.

  • Event AdDate: February 1, 2015

    Course/Instructor: Visual Media, Cory Kerr

Description:A color event ad with a full bleed. Designed using only Microsoft Word and scanner.

Process:After creating multiple sketches I found the idea of what I wanted my main theme to be. I then searched the Universi-ty library for an image that would help convey my message. After scanning the image I used Microsoft Word to design shapes and text boxes for the message. I kept the majority of the white space given in the image in order to maintain an open feeling to the ad.

Message:This fund raiser has been put together to benefit veterans who have fought for our country. I created this flier to inspire a sense of duty to those returned soldiers who are in need of help. My hope is to bring people to the event with a desire to give back.

Audience:All who are willing to give back.

I was given the logo, image, and content for this project.
