Overview • Pratt & Whitney began production of aerospace engine parts at its North Berwick plant in September 1979. The plant is 1 million square feet, the largest manufacturing facility in Maine under one roof • North Berwick manufactures five classes of parts - high and low compressor stators, outer air seals, low pressure turbine blades, brush seals and bearing compartments • The site produces modules that are used in the final assembly of the PurePower ® engine • North Berwick uses the latest in advanced manufacturing tools to produce engine modules including Pratt & Whitney's innovative horizontal assembly system • North Berwick supports the full lifecycle of its products from design and development, to production, to assembly, to overhaul and repair • Pratt & Whitney is a leading employer in the state of Maine with approximately 1,700 employees • The facility was named a recipient of IndustryWeek’s 2015 North America Best Plants Award • Pratt & Whitney helps support educational institutions such as York County Community College, Central Maine Community College, Southern Maine Community College, University of Maine, Vocational Technical institutions at the high school level. Additionally the site developed a 4-year machinist apprentice program along with an active on-boarding process for new hires • North Berwick is represented by management on the board of directors for Maine Manufactures Association, York County Community College, University of Southern Maine and University of New Hampshire • North Berwick has an active Veteran’s Council and Women’s Council that are engaged in community support/services throughout Southern Maine. • Pratt & Whitney continues to invest in its North Berwick facility to ensure the site is positioned for future success.
