This securitycode prevents other cordless handsetsfrom making calls through your base unit.A random security code will be assignedautomatically between your base unit andhandset when you charge the battery packfor the f irst time.If you want to reset the security code, see page 36.

• Af ter installing the battery pack in the handset, charge your handset atleast 1155 hhoouurrss bbeeffoorree uussiinngg tthhee pphhoonnee. Once the handset battery pack isfully charged, connect the telephone line cord to the base and telephonewall outlet.

• The location should be close to both a phone jack and a continuous poweroutlet which is not switchable.

• Keep the base and handset away from sources of electrical noise such asmotors and fluorescent lighting.

• Be sure there is suf ficient space to raise the base antenna to a vertical position.

1 Connect the telephone line cordto the TTEELL LLIINNEE jack and to atelephone outlet.

2 Connect the AC adapter to theDDCC IINN 99VV jack and to a standard120V AC wall outlet.

3 Set the base unit on a desk or tabletop and place thehandset on the base unit as shown.Then raise the antenna to a vertical position.

Place the power cord so itdoes not create a triphazard or where it couldbecome chafed andcreate a fire or electrical hazard.

Use only the supplied AD-311 AC adapter. Do not use any other AC adapter.

Connect the AC adapter to a continuous power supply.

Place the base unit close to the AC outlet so that you can unplug theAC adapter easily.

If your telephone outlet isn´t modular, contact your telephone company for assistance.

Depending on your dialing system, set the PPUULLSSEE--TTOONNEE switch as follows:

Make a trial call with the PULSE-TONE switch set to TTOONNEE.If the call connects, leave the switch as is; otherwise, set to PPUULLSSEE.

1 Press in on the battery cover release and slide thecover down until it comes of f.

2 Connect the battery pack connector with the correctpolarity (black and red wires), then insert thebattery pack into the battery compartment.

3 Securely close the battery compartment cover bysliding it up until it snaps into place.

4 Place the handset on the base as shown.

5 Make sure that the ssttaattuuss LED lights. If the LED doesn´tlight, check to see that the AC adapter is plugged inand that the handset makes good contact with the basecharging contacts.

Use only the Uniden Battery (BT-905) suppliedwith your phone. Replacement batteries are alsoavailable through the Uniden Parts Department. (see page 5)

When the battery pack is very low and needs to becharged, the phone is programmed to eliminate functionsin order to save power. If the phone is not in use, “LowBattery“ flashes and none of the keys will operate. If the phone is in use, “Low Battery“ flashes and the handset beeps.Complete your conversation as quickly as possible and return the handset tothe base unit for charging.

The built-in memory backup can hold numbers and names stored inthe memory even if the battery pack is completely discharged.

CClleeaanniinngg tthhee bbaatttteerryy ccoonnttaaccttss

To maintain a good charge, it is important toclean the battery contacts on the handset andbase unit with a dry cloth or a pencil eraserabout once a month.DDoo nnoott uussee aannyy lliiqquuiiddss oorr ssoollvveennttss..

• Even when the batterypack is not being used,it will graduallydischarge over a longperiod of time.For optimumperformance, be sureto return the handsetto the base unit after atelephone call forcharging the battery.

• The redial memorynumbers backup for upto 2 minutes while youreplace the battery pack.

• If you must replacethe battery packduring a telephonecall, complete thereplacement of thebattery pack within 30 seconds, and youcan return to theoriginal call.

Adjusting the Ringer and Earpiece VolumeRRiinnggeerr ttoonnee aanndd vvoolluummee

The phone has four ringer tone and volume combinations.In the standby mode, press or on the handset repeatedly.The display shows the setting.

Pressing or during a call will change the earpiece volume of thehandset. This setting will remain in ef fect af ter the telephone call has ended.

When you press in Loud mode or press in Normal mode, the error tone sounds.

Redialing a CallThe last three phone numbers dialed can be quickly redialed.

During a call, as you begin to move your handset too far from your base unit,noise increases. If you pass the range limits of the base unit, your call willterminate within 30 seconds.

Storing Phone Numbers and NamesTELEPHONE FEATURES

Memory Dialing allows you to dial a number using just a few key strokes. Youcan store up to 20 phone numbers in the memory.

1 Press and hold until “MemoryStore“ is displayed.

2 Press and or enter a two-digitnumber (01 - 20) to select the memorylocation where you would like to storethe number.

3 Press .The following screen appears and a cursorflashes indicating that the display isready for the name to be entered.If this screen appears, the selectedmemory location is already stored. Then,you must either change the entry in thislocation, clear the location, or select “ Go Back“ to choose another location.

4 Use , , or to enter the name.The name cannot exceed 13 characters.• Use and to scroll through the character menu.

It contains upper and lower case letters and various characters.

• Use and to move the cursor to the desired location.

• Use to delete characters as needed.

5 Press .“ Store Number“ is displayed. The cursor flashesindicating that the display is ready for the number to be entered.

6 Use the number keypad to enter the phone number. The phone number cannot exceed 20 digits.

• Use to enter a pause in the dialing sequence. Thedisplay shows a “P“. Each pause counts as one digit andrepresents a two second delay in time between digits.

The pause feature is useful for long distance calling,credit card dialing, or sequences that require a pausebetween digits.

• Use to delete digits as needed.

7 Press .The handset beeps and displays the conf irmation screen.Memory storage is complete.For example, if you store a name and number into memorylocation number 07, the display shows “Memory07Stored“ .After about 2 seconds, “Memory Store“ is displayed.

Chain DialingOn certain occasions af ter dialing a number, you may be requested to enteran access code, such as your account number. You can enter this number intoa memory location for later use by doing the following:1 Store the access code into one of the memory locations (01-20) following

the steps on page 17.2 Dial the party or service main number.3 When you need to enter the special number, press followed by the

memory location (01-20).

If you select a memorylocation that does nothave a stored number,the handset will beeprapidly and the phonewill not dial.

Caller IDYou must subscribe to Caller ID service to use this feature.When the telephone rings, the Caller ID feature allows you to view thecaller´s name and phone number on the display before you answer the phone.The handset displays the phone number of the incoming call, the name, time,and the number of calls. Additionally, you can dial the displayed number andstore the information for memory dialing.

There are three Caller ID setup options available; they are AutoTalk, CIDCW(Caller ID on Call Waiting), and Area Code.

AAuuttooTTaallkk allows you to answer the phone without pressing . If the phonerings when AutoTalk is on, simply remove the handset from the base and thephone automatically answers the call. Or, if the handset is not on the base,press any key to answer the call. If the phone rings when AutoTalk is of f, youmust press to answer the call.

CCaalllleerr IIDD oonn CCaallll WWaaiittiinngg ((CCIIDDCCWW)) performs the same as regular Caller ID on acall waiting number. Call Waiting options allow you to handle call waitingcalls in seven dif ferent ways. (See page 35.) If you enter a 3-digit area code number in the AArreeaa CCooddee option, your localarea code does not appear in Caller ID messages. When reviewing Caller IDmessages, you will see only the local seven digit number. For calls receivedfrom outside your local area code, you will see a full 10-digit number.

If your calling area requires 10-digit dialing, do not program this option.

Changing the Digital Security CodeThe digital security code is an identif ication code used to connect thehandset and the base unit. Normally, setting the code is not necessary.The f irst time you charge your handset, the security code is automatically set.(See page 4.)In the rare situation that you suspect another cordless telephone is using thesame security code, you can change the code.

1 Remove the handset from thebase unit. Press and hold .

2 While the handset is emitting thepaging sound, replace thehandset on the base unit. Thepaging tone stops.Leave the handset on the base formore than 3 seconds. A random,new security code is set.
