September 21st was indeed the most wonderful day! I had it in my sights for months and months. It was the Bike for Cancer Care ride for the Benedictine Health Foundation’s Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund. I had participated in the ride two years ago. I raised money in honor of my father who died from cancer. I rode the 50 mile loop and loved the whole event. At the beginning of this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The Gruner Fund was there for me at a very difficult time, and through my process of surgery and radiation. During that time I made it my goal to be out on the 50 mile ride again this year, and started training right after radiation treatments ended. The ride went so well and I raised over $1,600 for the fund. I was so glad that I could contribute back to the fund that assisted me and helps others who are in need of care. When you are going through the financial stress and exhaustion of daily treatments their helping hand is so supportive. Thank you so very much Gruner family for all that you do for this community. – Kristin Flynn

Timely Signs has been a sponsor of the Bike For Cancer Care and the Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund since it’s inception in 2003 because we believed in the simple mission of the fund. Direct help to people in our community suffering from cancer is something everyone could connect with.Little did we know that 6 years later Ozzie Beichert, our dad, grandpa and founder of our company would be diagnosed with cancer on July 16th, 2009. On the ride home from the doctor’s office that day, we declared all-out war and were determined to beat it – and he did. During that time, the Gruner Fund took on an entirely new meaning. While Ozzie had the financial means to fight this disease, others in our community needed a helping hand to ensure they are able to fight the good fight. That’s how Team Ozzie came to be. We enlisted the help and support of friends, family, clients and business associates to help raise money to support the outstanding work that the Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund does for the people in our community. – Paul Beichert

Keegan, Regional President, Albany & Hudson Valley

The Mission of the Benedictine Health Foundation is to raise and distribute resources to support quality and compassionate health care that improves the physical, psychological, and spiritual well being of those who are vulnerable and underserved in Ulster County.

The Benedictine Health Foundation established the Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund in partnership with the Gruner Family in 2004. Since its inception, over 1200 cancer patients have received assistance and over $555,000 has been distributed.

The Fund provides financial assistance in the form of gift cards to cancer patients while they receive treatment. Each patient that meets the financial and medical guidelines receives $500 annually in the form of gift cards to purchase nutritious food at Hannaford Supermarkets and/or fuel to Stewart’s Shops to cover the expense of transportation.
