The Journey
Late 1995—A request was made to develop a 5 acre piece of property for an
orphanage.
1997—Kitwe City Council
agreed to allow the property to
be developed for the project.
The long range design plan was
to meet the following needs:
• Provide a school for grades
1-9
• Housing for approximately
120 children
• A medical clinic to minister
to the orphans
• An administration block
• A multipurpose building for large group meetings and activities
• Housing for staff and short term volunteers
Also, a monetary gift was given with which a stove was purchased. They used
the stove to bake bread for sale. The profits went toward the start of a security
wall around the orphanage.
1998-99—Classes were offered through grade 2 after charitable organizations
offered to help with books and materials. A small security building was built and
used as a classroom.
July 2000—Rev. Chanda bid $3000 (he had $0) on a plot that had an asking price
of $12,500. His bid was accepted! God provided $9000! The plot was purchased
and the 6000 sq. ft. building was completely renovated and repaired. It is the
Chande Baptist Orphanage Training Center.
Jan 2001—230 Children attend grades 1-5 at the Chande Baptist Orphanage
Training Center.
Today—There are over 1,000,000 orphans in Zambia. The school has now
expanded to grades K-9 and there are 400 children, including 170 orphans in the
Chande Baptist Orphanage School. Volunteer teams from First Baptist Church in
McLean, Virginia have helped to train Chande teachers on several occasions.
Inglewood Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas have led Holiday Bible study for
the last several years. In addition, 15 children are being supported through the
orphanage ministry who go to public schools (grade 10-12.) Attendance to
public school for Higher grades is only available to those children who can pay.
An Exciting Outreach
The Chande Orphanage Ministry
God is doing great things through the efforts of the Chande Baptist Orphanage
Project.
In February 2006, the orphanage ministry sought the help of the local villagers to
help build a school in a rural area 12 miles outside of Kitwe. There are now 100
children in attendance, many
of whom had never attended
school.
A volunteer team from
Inglewood Baptist Church
worked with Rev. Chanda to
witness in the area and a new
church has been started there
in the school building in the
village.
In addition, a second school
has been started in Maposa,
Zambia and as a result of this
ministry the villagers have asked that a Baptist Church be started after seeing the
caring heart of the Baptists working with their children.
In 2005, Pastor Chanda took a team of men and ladies to Congo to conduct
crusades. Volunteers from College Heights Baptist Church in Casper, Wyoming
conducted training and discipleship in 2007 and 2008 for Congolese pastors.
They have also helped with the orphanage building projects and raised funds for
a brick making machine.
In 2009 a team of volunteers from
Inglewood Baptist Church led training
for Pastors in Congo, and also
ministered to the Twabwa tribe, an
unreached people group.
As a result of Pastor Chanda’s initial
outreach missions and the outreach
of volunteer teams from churches in
the U.S., there are now more than 40
churches in Congo.
Over 1 million orphans in Zambia
“Who will be my father?”
In 1995, Rev. Patrick Chanda attended
the funeral for a member of his church
and heard the man’s son cry out,
“Who will be my father?” The Lord
impressed Rev. Chanda to go to the
boy and tell him that God is a “Father
to the fatherless” and that he would
be his father.
During this time, Rev. Chanda became aware that 25% of the
population of Zambia was infected with HIV/AIDS and many were dying.
Two churches began helping 50 orphans with school fees, food, and
clothing. However, at the end of the day they had no place for the
children to stay. As
the number of
orphans began to
grow Chamboli
Baptist Church and
Ndeke Baptist
church, where Rev.
Chanda served as
pastor, decided to
commit to an
orphanage project.
The Commitment
Prayer Requests for The Chande Project
• Pray for Rev. Patrick Chanda and the Board that plans for and
directs the orphanage.
• Pray for the teachers at the Chande School as they teach the
children.
• Pray for the new school that has been started in the rural area.
• Pray for the development of ministry in the neighboring country
of Congo among two unreached people groups that have been
impacted by the Chande Baptist Orphanage partnership. There
are 34 New churches in Congo that came about largely through
the influence of the Orphanage team ministry.
• Pray for the new churches that have come from the outreach
ministry of the Orphanage Project and local churches sponsor-
ing the Orphanage into the neighboring country of Congo.

What does $30 a month cover?
This covers primary school education at
Chande Baptist Orphanage School,
food, clothing, and medical care. For
children in grades 10—12 to attend the
government school, they must be able
to pay $100 per year. If they do not
have the funds they are not allowed to
continue their education. Supporters
are welcomed to give more if
they feel led.
How much is needed to complete the
building project for the orphanage?
The facility that will house orphaned
children is still under construction, ap-
proximately $15,000 is needed to finish
the building project and make the facil-
ity suitable for housing children.
How can I correspond with the child I
support or with Rev. Chanda?
Pastor Chanda’s email address is
[email protected]. If you are
referencing a specific child, please, note
their name in the subject line.
