STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 13 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 13 DE MARZO“Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.” This is how our Gospel Reading from St. John describes Jesus’ im-mediate response to when the woman accused of adultery is brought before Him. Immediately after this the Lord says, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”In the original Greek the word used for “bent down” literally meant “stooped down.” The word describes doing something that was considered very humbling; quite likely Jesus was trying to put the woman at ease, to identify with her. Jesus identifies with the woman, and He makes a gesture to let her know that.We often speak of seeing Jesus in others, in treating them in a way that reflects love and caring, not judgment. Blessed Mother Teresa once stated, “I see Jesus in every human being. I say to myself, ‘This is hungry Jesus. I must feed Him.’ Or ‘This is sick Jesus who has leprosy and gangrene.’ I serve because I love Jesus.”Stewardship calls us to show the same kind of love reflected by Jesus in the Gospel and in the words and actions of Mother Teresa. We, too, are called to find and see Jesus in all we meet, to be willing to humble ourselves if necessary to serve and care for them. There are ways we can do this among the ministries right here in our own faith community.

Holy Week continues with Holy Thursday. On this day we are only permitted to celebrate one Mass, The Lord’s Supper, in the evening. We honor this day because this was the first time the Eucharist was celebrated in the upper room. We remember the great mystery of the Eucharist, but also the call to service. Jesus took the time to wash the feet of his disciples, to show what is expected of us, his modern disciples. The priests of the parish will follow this example and wash the feet of 12 disciples from our church. At the end of the celebra-tion we go with Jesus to the Garden (prepared in McGowen Hall.) Here we have the opportunity to spend time in prayer with Jesus in the Garden, just as his Apostles did before His death. We also strip the Church of all images of Jesus including from the tabernacle. The tabernacle will be left empty until Saturday evening at the Easter Vigil. On Good Friday we come together at 12 noon to read the Passion from the Gospel of John. This is the day Jesus died on the Cross and was placed in the tomb. We recognize the ironic image of the Cross - a horrible instrument of death and the throne and altar that holds our Savior and King. We have the opportunity to venerate the cross with a kiss or a touch. There is also a Communion Service because we are not permitted to celebrate any Masses this day. We live this day into Holy Saturday as if Jesus is truly in the tomb, as if He is gone from us. The feeling is one of mourning. The church will be open, but feel like a shell. The Sanctuary light is removed, the tabernacle is empty, the candles are taken away. We mourn Jesus’ death on Holy Saturday.Thursday Night Confessions: March 31, April 7 & 14God bless you all!Fr. Padre Jim

Respect Life MinistryI would like to personally invite you to get involved in our church’s social mission - the newly-formed Respect Life ministry. OLF needs your help to create and form this ministry. Through prayer, educa-tion and action, this ministry will works to promote the dignity of all life from conception to natural death. Come and work together to transform our community as we grow in faith and are transformed ourselves. We will focus on local needs and support national and international pro-life efforts. Our society discourages fertility, kills the unborn, allows suicide, devalues the elderly, and undermines the integrity of the family. Help to protect the common good and create a culture of life that supports the fundamental cell of society - the family. Your gifts and talents are needed in a variety of areas from weekly rosaries, monthly meet-ings, and planning and running of events including a fundraiser for San Clemente’s Pregnancy Resource Center this June. What can you expect in return? The joy that comes from helping to build God’s kingdom here on earth. Please contact me for more information. I look forward to hearing from you. Invitations will be avail-able after Mass at the tables outside. Thank you in advance for your support of our wonderful school.

Student TestimonySome of the things I like about OLF School are that I get to learn about God in Religion class every day and we go to Mass each week. We do community service projects, work in our religion books and have the opportunity to altar serve. We serve God and help the priests. We get to go on field trips to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Retreat Center, the Pilgrim and Sacramento. We do school activities such as Trunk o’ Treat, Walk Through California and International Day. Our school has awesome activities. -Nathan Kennedy, Grade 4

Holy Year of Mercy: Merciful like the Father/Año Santo de la Misericordia: Misericordiosos como el PadrePope Francis has asked us to be more merciful and to incorporate the Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy into our daily lives. During the year we will highlight the different acts and give concrete ideas on how to live them. Please visit www.usccb.org for more ideas.

SPIRITUAL ACT OF MERCY #3: ADMONISHING THE SINNERDo not judge, but be supportive in helping others find their way and correct their mistakes.  Together we can learn to walk more closely with Christ.

◆ In humility we must strive to create a culture that does not accept sin, while realizing that we all fall at times

◆ Don’t judge, but guide others towards the path of salvation (see Mt 7:1-2)

◆ When you correct someone, don’t be arrogant. We are all in need of God’s loving correction.

◆ We should journey together to a deeper understanding of our shared faith

◆ “Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye” (Mt 7:5)
