From the Pastor:

As summer nears and we begin to appreciate even more the beauty of God’s world, it is a good time for all of us to learn more about Pope Francis’ recent en-cyclical on caring for creation: Laudato Si (Praise be to You) : On Care for Our Common Home. The phrase “praised be” is taken from a famous creation canticle by St. Francis of Assisi as he thanked God for the beauty of creation. At the core of Pope Fran-cis’ message is the idea of “integral ecology” - that how we relate to one another, especially the poor, and how we relate to the environment, are intimately connected. Pope Francis highlights several basic teachings. First, the destruction of God’s creation, and specifically climate change, is a moral issue. Second, he focuses on the connection between our destruction of “Mother Earth” and the suffering of the poor, especially those in develop-ing countries. Finally he challenges us that immediate actions are required both by individuals who can change practices in their daily lives and by the community of na-tions. To learn more about the encyclical: Google Yale Climate Connection and search “encyclical background” to see a video featuring Catholic voices. Google “US Catholic Conference of Bishops” - click on the encyclical and then on “Resources on Environmental Stewardship” To view a four minute video by Fr. James Martin, S.J. google: “James Martin video Top 10 Things You Need To Know About Laudate Si” Let us remember in our prayers everyone who is entrust-ed with stewardship of God’s creation.

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

What does Mercy look like?

Each month during this Year of Mercy we will focus on one of the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy and share ways each of us might integrate them into our daily lives.

For the month of June….

Corporal Work of Mercy: Give Drink to the Thirsty

Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ do not have access to clean water or to drinking water on these hot summer days. Find ways to support the efforts of those who working to remedy this.

Week 1: Donate a case of water to our on-going food drive for People to People

Spiritual Work of Mercy: Instruct the Uninformed

Learn about our faith and be open to talking to others about our beliefs

Week 1: Invite someone to go to Mass with you next weekend.
