Catholic Schools Week
In the Gospel, we find Jesus teaching in the
synagogue with great authority! Let us be humble
students and learn from the master as we treasure
the gift of our Catholic and Apostolic faith. The
unclean spirits recognize and depart from the one
who is holy and true. As we progress in our
spiritual lives, we need to continue to be open to
Jesus’ authority taking command of our lives. Only
when we recognize the goodness of our
relationship with Jesus, do we also find ourselves
astonished as the disciples. Jesus has much to
teach us and the Church stands ever ready to assist
with our learning truth, beauty and goodness.
The first reading also has Moses teaching
the people about their sacredness. God has
extended an invitation and it is up to each of us to
make a response. With proper learning and
practice, we can make proper choices that
demonstrate our response to God!
This week we celebrate Catholic Schools
Week! The theme this year is Celebrating Faith,
Knowledge and Service! These virtues will be
demonstrated and practiced throughout the week
with various activities and events. Of course we
have some limitations this year because of the
covid pandemic. I hope all of you will rejoice with
me in the blessings of our school. We should be
very proud that our parish is also home to a
Catholic Grade School. The mission of Catholic
School is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Our
faith informs all that we learn, know and do and
the Catholic School provides a solid foundation in
making our faith the core of everything. There is
much good news to share about Catholic schools
and it is our duty to become informed. May we
always celebrate as we continue to allow God’s will
to unfold in our midst!
God bless you,
Father Michael Kaluza

MARK YOUR
CALENDAR: 1/29/21 Children’s
Mass hosted by grade 4
Catholic Schools Week begins with Mass 1/30 at 4:15pm, 1/31 at 8am or 10am. School kids should wear their Mass uniform.
Next raffle ticket & money turn in date is 2-1-2021.
Please join us for the kick-off of Catholic Schools Week by attending one of the following Masses: 4:15 pm on Saturday, January 30th or 8:00 am or 10:00 am on Sunday, January 31st. Students are asked to wear their Mass day uni-forms to church. This year’s Catholic Schools Week theme is: “Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.” We have a whole week of activities planned to demonstrate what our students are accomplishing and to celebrate the com-munity we have built to educate tomorrow’s citizens and leaders. In addition, the theme focuses on key components of Catholic education: faith develop-ment, academic excellence, and dedication to service. These elements set Catholic schools apart from other education options. They are why families make sacrifices to provide Catholic education to their children. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to educate your children!
Second quarter ended on Friday, January 15th. Conferences will be held virtu-ally on February 8th. Watch for a sign-up information from your child’s teacher early next week.
Peace,
Wendi Alessio
Next week we celebrate Catholic Schools Week! It is always a highlight of every academic year. The annual festival of all the good work that Catho-lic Schools do to educate our children in academics and faith formation is a good reason to rejoice and remember how blessed we are. Growing and ma-turing in holiness and wisdom takes much effort, but the results are phenome-nal. I hope that every Catholic family seriously considers enrolling their chil-dren in the parish school.
While the festivities will be different this year because of the Covid pan-demic, the faculty, staff and school board have engaged in planning and pre-paring awesome celebrations each day. We will now start enrolling for the upcoming school year, so please continue to spread the message and help with our marketing program. Our school is a real treasure to this parish! Let us be ever mindful of the obligation that we have to form our children in the faith and recognize the achievements of this school to catechize our children in the faith. Thank you for making our school great and for helping us to build mo-mentum to serve families far into the future!
God bless, Father Michael Kaluza

Teacher Ashley Preschoolers are taking a closer look at snowflakes. This week we brought the snow into our sensory table. Then added magnifying glasses and watercolors. It was cool seeing the “crystals” up close! For fine motor and art we traced different circle lids to make snowballs, to then create our own snowmen. One of the books we read was Snowballs by Lois Ehlert. Make your very own snowman as a family!
Mrs. Urlick Last week K-1 learned about penguins, and this week we are learning about polar bears! We will be creating our own polar bear to display in the hallway too! In reading first grade is learn-ing about the long vowel sounds, and are practicing adding vowel markings above the vowels in the words they read. Kindergarten is meeting a group of Superkid sisters named Tic, Tac, and Toc. They LOVE the letter Tt and they are "triple trouble." This week we are also finishing up with our MAP assessment testing.
Ms. Cates In religion, the second graders are working with Mrs. Alessio twice a week to help them prepare for their First Reconciliation and First Communion. While with me, everyone is learning about the Holy Spirit and how it guides us in our everyday lives. In social studies we are learning about the different landforms and water systems that make our country's geography. In science, we continue to learn about the moon phases and space travel. In math, the second graders are working on their double digit subtraction unit. In math, the third graders continue to learn dif-ferent multiplication strategies and work towards multiplication fact fluency.
Mrs. Alessio In reading, the fourth graders have been working on writing main ideas with at least three sup-porting details. In religion they are learning about the Holy Spirit coming to the disciples. In math the fourth graders have been working really hard to learn the steps needed in working a long division problem.
Mr. Lopahs
The 5th & 6th graders are hard at work mastering their Fraction skills in Math and Creative Writing Skills in Language Arts. In Religion we are discussing the details of the Seven Sacra-ments. And they are putting their best effort into the Winter MAP testing for both Math and Language Arts. In Science the 4th, 5th, & 6th graders are researching their own Biomes and making Posters to show off their knowledge. And in Social Studies we are on the Road to the US Revolution learn-ing all about what went into our country's Declaration of Independence.
Mrs. Gleason We are doing a virtual talent show this year for Catholic Schools Week. If your child is interested in participating, please have them submit their photo or video to Mrs. Gleason by this Friday, January 29th. [email protected] Forms went home last week with additional information. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
