STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 17 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 17 DE ABRILIt is not easy being Christian and Catholic in today’s world. Our society, because of the critical nature of the media in large part, tends to view people of faith and morals with some distrust. That is a chal-lenge for us.Paul and Barnabas experience something similar in today’s First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles. The people of Antioch in Pisidia “expel (them) from the territory.” No one likes or appreciates rejection. It is humiliating and discouraging. There may be times in our own lives when we follow firmly our Catholic beliefs and experi-ence something similar. However, like Paul and Barnabas, we need to become even more determined in our desire to be a Disciple of the Lord.In their case, they moved on to Iconium and continued their min-istry and their message. In fact, Holy Scripture adds, “The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.” We, too, need to seek that joy and to understand that we have been blessed and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Blessed Mother Teresa said, “Give yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in His love than in your own weak-ness.” Like Paul and Barnabas, and Mother Teresa, we need to seek and utilize God’s strength. For more reflections and information on stewardship please visit http://www.thecatholicsteward.com.

This week we see Paul and Barnabas being expelled from a city for preaching about Jesus and the last line says they were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Where is this fire in each of us to talk about Jesus openly? Even I look sheepishly down when thinking about this because we have not been formed to express our faith in this way, so it causes us to fear or shy away.Jesus was forming the apostles for 3 years before we see them sent forth. He was getting them ready by sending them out two by two. He gave them tasks - throw your net over once more, feed the 5,000, come out onto the water - each time giving more experiences to trust in God. We have these too, we just need to identify the times we listened and God was there. These are our stories. We need to become comfortable telling them to others. They would sit around at night and tell their stories and see how God worked in the lives of others. Sometimes just telling our stories will even cause us fear. We think, what if they think I’m weird, what if they make fun of me, my story is not very exciting, why would anyone want to hear it. That’s why we should tell our God stories to people here at church. I will never think your story is weird. God works in our lives every day. I know it. We’ll continue in this vein next week.Thursday Night Confessions: April 21 (yes) April 28 (no)God bless you all!Fr. Padre Jim

Mass Offerings or Stipends/ Ofrecimiento de Misa o EstipendiosAt each Mass a priest celebrates, he has the opportunity to pray in a special way by offering the blessings from that Mass for a certain intention. Traditionally these intentions come from the com-munity where he ministers. This is also

considered part of his salary. Here at Our Lady of Fatima these inten-tions are gathered in the parish office and recorded, then later printed in the newsletter the week the Mass is being offered. The suggested donation is $20. You may offer a Mass for someone who has passed away recently or on the anniversary of his or her death. Usually, it will be for one person, but it may be up to three or for “The Deceased Members of the _______ Family” or “All the Souls in Purgatory.” It may be for someone celebrating a birthday or a couple celebrating an anniversary. It could be for someone who is ill or dying. It may also be for offering thanks to God. We have Mass Intention greeting cards that you will receive for each intention. These may be given to the recipient or their family to let them know that you are offering a Mass for them. Please visit the parish office if you would like to offer a Mass for someone.

HOLY YEAR OF MERCY: MERCIFUL LIKE THE FATHER/AÑO SANTO DE LA MISERICORDIA: MISERICORDIOSOS COMO EL PADREPope Francis has asked us to be more merciful and to incor-porate the Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy into our daily lives. During the year we will highlight the different acts and give concrete ideas on how to live them. Please visit www.usccb.org for more ideas.

THE 4TH SPIRITUAL ACT OF MERCY: COMFORTING THE SORROWFULBe open to listening and comforting those who are dealing with grief.  Even if we aren’t sure of the right words to say, our pres-ence can make a big difference.

◆ Lend a listening ear to those going through a tough time ◆ Make a home cooked meal for a friend who is facing a dif-

ficult time ◆ Write a letter or send a card to someone who is suffering ◆ A few moments of your day may make a lifetime of difference

to someone who is going through a difficult time
