San Antonio is a beautiful and historic city with plenty of fun family friendly

attractions which include missions, museums and theme parks.

The Mission San Antonio de Valero, better known as the Alamo, was established by the Spanish in 1718 and is the location of one most memorable battles in American history. On March 6, 1836, after a 13-day siege by Gen. Santa Anna’s army from Mexico, 189 defenders were slain. Amongst the fallen was David Crockett, Jim Bowie and William B. Travis. La Villita was San Antonio’s first neighborhood. It was a settlement of primitive huts for the Spanish soldiers stationed at the Mission San Antonio Valero or the Alamo. Today the community is a thriving arts community. 210-207-8610. www.lavillita.com

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park includes four frontier missions along the San Antonio River, the Espada Dam and Aqueduct. Visitors can start at the park’s visitor center at Mission San José and continue on Mission Trail Parkway to the Concepción, San Juan Capistrano and Espada missions. Established in the 18th

San Fernando Cathedral was founded on March 9, 1731 by a group of 15 families of 55 settlers who came from the Canary Islands at the invitation of King Phillip V of Spain to settle the remote territory and prevent possible incursion by France. Spanish Governor’s Palace, a National Historic Landmark, is the only remaining example of an 18th-century Spanish aristocrat’s house in Texas. Dating to 1722, the stucco building has 10 rooms with period furnishings and a courtyard with fountain. Tower of the Americas was the built to serve as the theme structure for the 1968 World’s Fair held in San Antonio. Texas Air Museum features vintage aircraft. The museum is dedicated to telling the story of the roles San Antonio and Texas played in the development of military air power.
