YELLOW-RUMPED THORNBILL Found in all states of Australia. It grows to 12 cm and feeds on grass insects and seeds. It prefers open woodlands, bushlands and grasslands. It is the largest and best know of the Thornbills and can mimic other birds calls, especially the alarm calls of the noisy miner. Family: Acanthizidae Genus: Acanthiza Species: A. chrysorrhoa

The Eastern Yellow Robin had both pictures replaced with much higher quality local images this week. By slowly updating lesser quality images with higher quality images, we are able to continue to refine the resource. After confirmation by local bird expert Robert (Bob) Tate, we were also able to include a Yellow-Rumped Thornbill. The Black-shouldered Kite had one public domain image replaced with a new image by local Yea photographer Robert Gardiner. The new image compliments our first Black-shouldered Kite image which was submitted by co-author of the 'Quick Identification Local Birds' eBook Robert (Bob) Tate.

EASTERN YELLOW ROBIN Found in south eastern Australia from Queensland to South Austral ia (except Tasmania). It grows to 16 cm and feeds on small spiders, insects and other arthropods. It prefers dry bushlands, woodlands, forests and rainforests. Family: Petroicidae Genus: Eopsaltria Species: E. australis

BLACK-SHOULDERED KITE A raptor bird found in all states of Australia. It grows to 38 cm and feeds primarily on small rodents like the introduced house mice, though it will eat larger insects. It prefers farmland, grasslands and open forests and bushland. It forms monogamous pairs after a courtship which includes the male feeding the female in flight. Family: Accipitridae Genus: Elanus Species: E. axillaris

AAA B R A MB R A MB R A M --- LLL O U I SO U I SO U I S BBB U V E L O TU V E L O TU V E L O T Born: 3rd March 1814 Died: 30th May 1888 Style: Landscape painter Buvelot was born in Morges, Switzerland the second son to postal worker Francios Buvelot and schoolteacher Jeanne-Louise Heizer. He avoided using his first name, preferring to go by Louis. He arrived in Australia in February of 1865 as a mature artist and almost immediately began work as a photographer in Bourke Street. A year later he returned to his love - painting. Louis was awarded with numerous accolades and took a silver in the prestigious Philadelphia Exhibition in 1876. In 1880 and 1886 he won Gold Medals at exhibitions held in Melbourne. He was strongly influenced by the outdoor painting movement popularised in Europe and was known for his causal painting manner and his ability to visualise beauty in mundane scenes. Buvelot died in May of 1888 childless. His wife died in 1902. Title: A Billabong on the Goulburn (1884)

TT HEHE SS PRAYPRAY The Spray is from a large nozzle near the Lower Rubicon Power Station. It operates as an emergency overflow for the Power Station, sending water into the Rubicon River. The spray falls much like heavy rain, thereby reducing the possibility of river bank erosion. Thanks to Allan Layton for discovering what the subject of this image was, and for verifying photographically that it still exists today.

Harold was an old man. He was sick and in the hospital. There was one nurse that just drove him crazy. Every time she came in, she would talk to him like he was a

little child. She would say in a patronizing tone of voice,

’And how are we doing this morning?', or 'Are we ready for a bath?', or

'Are we hungry?'

Old Harold had had enough of this particular nurse. One day, at breakfast, Old Harold took the apple juice off the tray and put it in his bed side stand. Next, he was given a urine bottle to fill for testing. So you know where the

juice went!

The nurse came in a little later, picked up the urine bottle and looked at it. 'My, it seems we are a little

cloudy today. '

At this, Old Harold snatched the bottle out of her hand, popped off the top, and drank it down, saying, 'Well, I'll

run it through again. Maybe I can filter it better this time.'

The nurse fainted! Old Harold just smiled!
