OS MasterMap TM “The definitive digital map of Great Britain” The OS MasterMap TM dataset from the Ordnance Survey will bring important challenges for all users of Geographical Information Systems. Translation of OS MasterMap TM (from the GML/gz format) to MapInfo tab using MapGML and MMMerge to manage the .gz files will turn these challenges into opportunities. MapGML/MMMerge and the MapInfo tab format with its powerful spatial querying capabilities are ideally suited to meet the future demands for fast, efficient and accurate mapping. MapGML MapGML uses the same fast core translation engine as By Design’s other translators and is able to translate full re-supply of data as supplied by the option under the OS SLA or may be used to translate single chunks or parts of an area. Used in conjunction with MMMerge, MapGML is able to process updated area through the change-only update process. MapGML uses a single stage process to read raw gz files directly and publish to MapInfo tab using a selected style. MapGML can process up to 3000 OS MasterMap TM objects/second. (1000Mhz PC) MapGML - benefits: - Runs within MapInfo. Reads compressed gz files directly. Fastest available one stage process from gz to MapInfo tab format. (3000 obj/sec – 1000Mhz PC) User defined styles at creation time. User defined tables names and field names within tab files. Total control over the attribute data inserted into the tables. Option to translate to single table sets or to translate to seamless table sets. MMMerge MMMerge is a new utility to ‘manage’ the OS MasterMap .gz files and is able to process all ‘change-only’ ‘geographic chunking only’ updates in order to produce new ‘total coverage’ current .gz files. Using MMMerge and MapGML users are now able to utilise the power and flexibility of the MapGML translator while managing all change-only updates with the easy to use MMMerge utility.
