A plastic-coated disk that stores digital data, suchas music or text, as tiny pits etched into the surface

and is read with a laser scanning the surface.The disc is rotated rapidly, and a laser is reflectedoff the disc to an optical sensor, which is sampled

periodically.. If the laser strikes the flat area between pits, the

sensor picks up the reflection and registers thedigital value 1.

If the laser strikes one of the pits, it is deflected

from the sensor, and the sample value is a digital 0.

Jewel Case A jewel case has been in use since the compact disc wasfirst released in 1982.It is a three-piece plastic case, measuring 142 mm 125mm 10 mm, which usually contains a compact disc along with the liner notes and a back card.Two opposing transparent halves are hinged together toform the casing, the back half holding a media tray thatgrips the disc by its hole. All three parts are made of injection-molded polystyrene.

Jewel cases are occasionally used for DVDs as well as CDs,Blank Blu-ray Disc media is also most commonly sold instandard-width jewel cases.

The Slim CaseThe Slim Case is also a jewel case, but with half thethickness of a standard CD jewel case.It is a two-piece plastic case, measuring 142 mm x 125

mm x 5 mm, which usually contains a compact discalong with the inlay.They are made with translucent or transparentpolystyrene, and are often available in multiple colors. A stronger alternative is made from semi-opaque,semi-flexible polypropylene which is strong enough toprotect the disc, but flexible enough not to breakeasily.

Pearlised polypropylene is printed on an HP Indigodigital press and the disc is packed using Kora a FFSmachine. A separator is online inserted between two CDs to

avoid scratches.

Digipak A particular type of CD case, which essentially consists of a plastic CD tray glued inside a foldingcardboard cover.

Despite being made of paper, they were onceconsidered a more environmentally-friendly alternative to jewel boxes.However, they remain less common than jewel cases

due to higher manufacturing costs and lowerresistance to wear (particularly shopwear).

Its becoming very popular both in case of normal andmini-discs.In the case of mini disc and jewel cases the blister ismade out of a 400 micron PET sheet. The front andback is PET and there is a back up card with thenecessary graphics and text content.For normal discs the blister is made out of a 400

micron PET sheet. There is a back card which has gotspecial HSL coating on it for proper sealing of PET.

Handle Pack This is a very innovative pack.This packaging consists of a round, plastic base with a centralpost that holds a stack of discs.The central post has screwing thread at the top portion.A separate top part is fitted with the thread and tightenedproperly. This is shrink wrapped with Shrink Sleeve.The final pack looks very trendy and uses minimal plastics.However, this requires more protection duringtransportation.
