General &Tryout Info

SUMMARIZE, REVIEW, & QUESTIONS

How many athlete's tryout at an age?◦ We did not offer retentions this year, so, we would expect about

40-80 athletes at each age to tryout. How are tryouts formatted?◦ We evaluate approx. 45 min of skills and drills, followed by 60

min or so scrimmage or wave playing. How many teams at each age are there?◦ We intend to have 2 teams at each level and a 3rd team at 12 & 13

and/or 14s. What if tryout time conflict?◦ Do your best to attend the tryout partially. Come late or leave

early as needed. Or be sure to come to at least one day, they are all important in the process.

What about age waivers in the region?◦ We do accept waivers on Red or White teams as needed

How are offers made?◦ Offers are made on site near the end of the tryout. Athletes and

parents are brought together at the conclusion of the tryout for discussion and Q&A.

What is the play-time philosophy?◦ Play to win, but each athlete should have the ability to play in a

match. Finals or qualifying events and Nationals, play time may be adjusted.

How many athletes are on a team?◦ Generally, 11 athletes. At times we have 10 and or 12 and it is

dependent on the team overall. How many athletes of each position make the team?◦ Generally, each team is comprised of 2 setters, 3 outsides, 2

Middles, 2 right sides, 2 DS/Liberos. What about an athlete participating in a school sport or other

activity?◦ We are happy to work with school activities as needed, please

discuss possible conflicts with coaches at tryouts and or as they arise if unforeseen. We would note that if there are several conflicts, we may not be the choice club for you in the current year. It takes time to bond with your team, learn systems, skills, and gaming.

Tryout Related

Miss the first session of tryouts, especially a club’s first tryout session?◦ Email the club and inform them you are missing the first tryout

and indicate that you intend to attend the second session. Possibly provide your position and or other helpful information.

Don’t get an offer at all?◦ Follow up with the clubs, check badger region website for teams

looking for players. Don’t get the offer you want or the offer of your choice?◦ Email the Penguins and ask where you were ranked at tryouts and

inquire if you should hold off on accepting another offer in case there is a chance the Penguins would offer you an opportunity.

Should I come to the second session of tryouts?◦ Most definitely yes, we use this date to play more with the team,

confirm acceptances, fill in additional athletes as needed to complete the team, and create a depth chart of next athletes to contact in the case we have an opening arise.
