LAKOSLEJAC CUP
NORTHERNRANGERS
Olympia FC will go into the round of 16 match as one ofthe favourites to progress to the inaugural FFA Cup. Tasmania has been allocated one spot for the nationalknockout competition meaning the winner of the 2014Lakoseljac Cup will represent the Apple Isle. Olympia’s form has been nothing short of disciplined asthey are still yet to concede in competition fixtures thisyear. A lot of this is due to the twin towers at the back AlexHolmes and Jake Vandermey. Holmes and Vandermeyhave already established a great playing relationshipgiving the rights as the best central defensive pairing inthe state. Add to this to consistent and stable DmitriNester in goals and the Rangers will need to take thelimited chances the Olympia defence allow if they areany chance on Saturday. While Olympia’s pre season has been spot on, Rangershas been up and down. They were defeated by Southern Premier League sideBeachside FC 2-1 and only scraped past another SPL sidein Nelson Eastern Suburbs 1-0 after a Harry Thanhausserspecial lifted them over the line. In their first matchagainst Clarence United they were much moreconvincing but still allowed the revamped red andBlacks two goals. Last week however they won the Steve Hudson Cupwhich would be of some benefit leading in to this crucialencounter. ”It was good to get the win in the Hudson Cup and we hadsome solid performances there. I think we are probably acouple of weeks behind where we want to be though interms of fitness and integrating the 3-4 new players intothe squad. Saying that I know the there are some qualityplayers among the team and they all like to play the biggames and hopefully they
will be up and about and get a win,” stated Rangers goalkeeper Marshall Pooley. Both sides have acknowledged that now the FFA Cup isthe progression from the Lakoseljac Cup it will no longerbe used as a week off. “In previous years the first round of the cup has beenmore of a sounding board for where we are at before theseason gets underway and if we get through to thesecond round then we will put focus on it. With the newformat I think every team has one eye on the cup andwould be thinking that would be a nice to play a big teamand see what you can do. We are no exception to that so Ithink sat will be a bit of both we will be leaving nothing inshed and will go all out to win it but at the same time wewill be wanting to feel out where we are at and get a lookat Olympia before we meet them in the league,” statedPooley. While Olympia’s Ben Phillips had this to say about theimportance of the fixture “it's a great opportunity for aTassie team to have a crack at some of the biggermainland sides and possibly even an A League club. Itwould be an awesome experience and I think it providesthat extra incentive to win the cup.” Phillips who has now cemented a starting position in theOlympia line up will be looking to consolidate the goodform he took in to the Summer Cup. “I've played two and a half games now since coming backfrom a holiday in Queensland and I haven't quite been at100% with my touch and fitness. Playing in a newposition this season and moving further up the pitch isexciting and I'm starting to get used to the new role. I'vefelt good in training this week so hopefully I can take thatout onto the park on Saturday and put in a solidperformance for the team.”

Welsh settles concerns overfuture of junior football in theNorth West
There are growing concerns over the future ofjunior football in the north west of the stateafter an emergency meeting was setup to lookat possible actions to improve the status ofplay in the North West of the state. Last Friday around 50 people attended a publicfootball forum to raise concerns to FootballFederation Tasmania CEO Richard Welsh aboutthe state of play for junior competitions in andaround the North West. It is understood that currently while some clubsare doing work to ensure that pathways exist forplayers and opportunities are created other clubsstand by and watch numbers decline. The future of the Ulverstone SC is a great concernfor the North West with as little as 25 playersregistered accross three age groups 14's, 16's &18's. Football Federation Tasmania CEO Richard Welshstressed that "Growth in all aspects of the game isimportant, particulary the juniors. While theinterest in the game is at an all time high, we doned to take a good look at how our game isdelivered around the state. ther is a lot ofcompetition for a young person's time these daysand we need to ensure that the Football product
is appealing at local level." Welsh who has made no secret that his mainambition this year is raising the participationrates at grass roots level stated "It is importantthat whatever changes we make are strategicallycorrect and not just a bandaid approach. We helda public football forum on Friday in Devonportwhich was well supported with around 50stakeholders present. I see this as the first ofmany ways to engage with the key people on thecoast as we pave a new path for Junior football. The key takeaway message that I got from thenight was that people acknowledge the currentstructure is not the best option and so now FFTwiill work with the clubs and associations on thecoast to get the structure right and head in thedirection that allows for the growth of the game." OTKTBwasalsoabletogetsomefiguresonrecentregistration numbers in the area. Devonport Juniors rose from 1180 in 2012 to1212 in 2013. While Ulverston Juniors rose from 349 in 2012 to405 in 2013.

TAROONAFC
Taroona FC will go in this game as the underdog, a tagthey may not mind supporting for the time being. It was the underdog Clarence United last year who camefrom behind twice to knock Taroona FC out in the semifinals and eventually win the final against Olympia. A lot has changed for Taroona since that match with theside only carrying five players who featured in last year’smatch. Taroona are going through a rebuilding phase and manyaround the Women’s game continue to comment ontheir new squad, this hasn’t been missed by AssistantCoach John Meehan. “This week’s game will be difficult for us but we are keento make up for last year. We lost concentration duringextra time and panicked which we can't afford to doagain against a squad like Clarence as they will make uspay. "I think many are focusing on the players that are missingfrom the squad (granted, they are big losses) withoutlooking at the players we have managed to build thesquad around. We didn't plan on the squad hitting itsstraps until late March due to the changes we've had inboth playing and coaching personnel.” The Women’s game seems to throw a number ofsurprisesupintheCupeveryyear. ManagerDaleCrockerbelieves that one of Clarence’s strength is their ability topull together as a team and its tight defence which hasbeen hard to break down so far this year. “CUFC have a strong sense of team and all our players areloyal, committed and determined to play the best theycan. While each player will have a role to play, it’s ourteam work which will be the key to success.
"The girls have been training hard and many of them alsoparticipated in a team building camp over the weekend. We also have a very strong defence line up.”

Zebras miss outon signing Bwele After months of speculationTilford Zebras pursuit of formerCameroon international GuyBwele has lost all momentum.Zebras President Nick DiGiovanni was obviously clearlyfrustrated after months oftrying avenue after avenue. “We took every avenue availablewith normal visas to sportingvisas and each time faced a brickwall with no help from either FFAor Immigration. I must thank MrWilke’s office and FFT who wereon our side and sent numerousletters of support to bothimmigration and FFA. The mainreason he was unable to sign wasthat with new FFA rules they willnot sign off on a sporting Visa onany player unless he is going to anA league club, no matter if he is Aleague standard and immigrationwill not allow visa players onsporting visa without letter of
supportfromFFAsoasyoucanseewe matter little to the sportingbody and Tasmanian soccer willnever improve as the Governingbody doesn’t give a dam aboutanyone apart from their A leaguecompetition. A total waste of timeand money spent , with 3 monthsof our lives wasted on dealingwith governing bodies who hadno intention of helping in any waypossible”, said Di Giovanni. It’s not only a huge loss to the clubbut also the Football communityas in Bwele’s few media contactswith the state he presented welland didn’t come across as a spoiltInternational representative. “The club will be fine without him,IwouldsayIfeelmoresorryfortheTasmanian public who once againmiss out on an internationalsuperb athlete that played at thehighest level due to immigrationand FFA red tape.”
Clamp ruled outfor season Tilford Zebras’ giantmidfielder Jacob Clamphas been ruled out for2014 Victory Leagueseason. Clamp who wasinstrumental in Zebrassemi final victory ofSouth Hobart two weeksago suffered a back strainin the final momentsagainst Olympia inZebras unsuccessful tiltfor Summer Cup glory. Clamp who featured in all21 Victory Leaguefixtures in 2013 will bemissed. OTKTB has beeninformed by the Zebrasthat his position in theoriginal 20 man squadwill be filled by MarkPage. In other news formerzebras dynamo Aaroncairns is expected back inthe black and white inthe next few weeks. Cairns who is an asset tonot only the Zebras butthe competition iswaiting on finalimmigration approval. Finally Olympia's FC goalkeeper Ryan Norval hassigned with VPL sideHeidelberg.

Club: Northern Rangers FC
Coach: Tim Lunnon

Captain: Todd Hingston
2013 Club Highlight: Beating cross-‐town rivals in each meeting, including the match with the inclusion of Danny Allsopp.
What are your thoughts on your first three fixtures? Preparation has been behind expectation of what the coach would like but we would like to improve from last year’s results of two wins and one loss.
What are your hopes for the season ahead? Ideally the goal is to be premiers but if we are in the mix of the top four come the tail end of the season, we will have a real shot at top spot as we envisage the competition to be significantly closer than last year.
Biggest rival? Launceston City as our local rivalry, which has spanned since our conception as a club and our yardstick is South Hobart.
Who are your key signings? Adam Edwards and the return of Shane Brassington plus Mitch Dent and Mike McKenna as local additions from other clubs to the squad.
Any major losses from last year? Agele Luate and Des Schipper
Who are the young players to watch from your club? We have some great young talent in the squad this year; Harry Thannhauser, Yitay Towns, Daniel Sparrshot and Tenzing Anderson are all good young players with something to prove to their older team mates. Dylan Headland and Chris Collins will be players on the fringe that will be looking to impress in the NPL as an addition later in the season.
Unique club information: NRFC still is the baby in the competition being the youngest and smallest, so we are punching above our weight. The Victory League is our first taste of state league football.

Who are your key signings? Cory Vickers, (Kendal Town) Callum Moore (Hest FC), Miles Barnard (University), Dallas Baldock (Ulverstone).

Club: Kingborough Lions United Football Club
Coach: Stephen Pitchford
Home ground: Lightwood Park
Captain: Nick Cuthbertson
2013 Club Highlight: Relatively quite season on the park, silverware was collected by the Womens Team in the pre-‐season Summer Cup and the Under 14 Girls won the Knockout Cup.
What are your thoughts on your first three fixtures?
All fixtures in 2014 will be difficult encounters as all clubs are striving to improve on 2013, and meeting the Summer Cup winners in the first round will be a good test of our preparations. We are confident of taking the game to all Victory league opponents and so will be aiming for 9 points from the first three rounds.
What are your hopes for the season ahead?
Our goal this year is to progress the playing style towards a possession-‐based game, aiming for a top four finish.
Biggest rival? Given Glenorchy Knights have two ex KLUFC coaches amongst their senior coaching staff and three players who played for the Club in 2013, it is fair to say there will be a “little rivalry” when we meet as they are sure to want to perform well against their “former” team mates.
Who are your key signings?
Seung Yong JIN, Jae Young CHOI, Jack TURNER, Adam HEDGE and Francis KENYI
Any major losses from last year? Marcello Marchioli, David Cooper (semi retirement), Cormac Collins (attending World Cup), Michael Palmer (attending World Cup) and Damien Pearce (attending World Cup).
Who are the young players to watch from your club? Lewis Verdouw, Angus Souter, Fionn Collins, Dean Watkins and Jae Choi are all eligible to play under 20’s but will be expected to be strong contenders for starting roles within the Victory League team.
Unique club information: The Kingborough Lions Football Club is based in the Kingborough Municipality south of Hobart, Tasmania and is the only National Premier League (NPL) club in the region. Players wishing to play at the highest level in Tasmania can do this at KLUFC in the State-‐wide Victory League competition or Southern Women's Premier League. Pathways are provided for talented (and social) Junior and Youth players.

What are your hopes for the season ahead? To finish in the top four and play in the Victory Cup. Biggest rival? Tilford Zebras is always a big rivalry as co-‐tenants at KGV Football Park. Who are your key signings? Shae Hickey, Sam Kruijvers, Paul Wicox, Joel Schuth, Nick De Falco.
Any major losses from last year? No. Who are the young players to watch from your club? Harry Woolley, Vincent Kamano, Aaron Wilson, Tyler Harrison, Alex Woodham, Ben Robinson, Daniel Holmes. Unique club information: Knights has a very young squad again and will blood a number of home grown players from our Development team during the season. Squad: Aaron Wilson, Alex Woodham, Ben Robinson, Blayne Hudson, Daniel Holmes, Callen Griffin, David Hoppitt, Harry Wooley, Jal David, Jayden Hey, Jeremy Marshall, Joel Schuth, Mynonge Kamba, Nick Di Falco, Paul Wilcox, Sam Johnson, Sam Kruijver, Shae Hickey, Tyler Harrison, Vincent Kamano.
Club: Launceston City FC Coach: Kurt Reynolds Home ground: Mitsubishi Park, Prospect Captain: Nathan Bartlett
2013 Club Highlight: Competing in the inaugural Victory League What are your thoughts on your first three fixtures? We anticipate that every fixture will be a challenge. However, Rangers at home in Round 1 should be an excellent local derby. Kingborough away will be a challenge, then we look forward to hosting Devonport at home in Round 3, which will include marquee player, Danny Allsopp. What are your hopes for the season ahead? We have worked hard at player recruitment, our playing system and playing style, which we hope will translate into a very competitive LCFC outfit for season 2014. We believe strongly that the efforts put in during the preseason will result in some very positive results.
Biggest rival? Everyone. Who are your key signings? There are numerous new signings at LCFC, however, Goalkeeper Jordy Van de Corput (Netherlands) and striker Guykyeon Kim (South Korea) complete our two visa spots and have shown excellent ability. Additionally, local talent such as Tobey Omenihu, Mark Christy and Andy Compagne are welcomed additions. These signings are complimented by a number of retentions from last year, along with a good depth of youth developing at the club. Any major losses from last year? Nothing to report. Who are the young players to watch from your club? Dom Rossi, Isaac Degetto, Aaron Mattarozzi and Dan Egan are all part of our 20 man squad and are showing great promise.
