2 April 2019

A warm welcome to ournewest members:

Kerrie Luginbill & Eric Jones

We are winding down on our new member referral program with just a few weeks remaining to the April 15 deadline. With the spring-like weather making an appearance and The Masters just around the corner golf is undoubtedly on your minds. Please send your referrals my way so we can get them enrolled before the deadline. There’s nothing we would love more than to host a big party and give away an entire set of PXG golf clubs!

Our Easter weekend festivities are the unofficial kick-off to the busy season. Already, there are more cars in the parking lot and before we know it, we will be clicking on all cylinders with the pool open, summer camps in session and activity all around the Club. Not only is it the best time to enjoy all the amenities your membership offers, but also to introduce Club life to your friends and family. I look forward to seeing you at the Club soon!

A Message from the Board PresidentDear Members,

Yes, it is too early to say the warm weather is here to stay; however, we all were treated to temperatures in the 70’s in late March. The golf course for this time of year is in great shape. Many of our golfing members took advantage of the conditions in anticipation of this upcoming golf season. USTA League play is ramping up and will be full swing beginning in April.

As a reminder, please note:

• We are on track with the transition plan from ClubCorp.

• The Signature Gold reciprocity program as you currently know it will still be available. We are anticipating the completion of our agreement in late April.

• The issue of non-member use of the Club has been resolved and was addressed during the review and updating of the Bylaws. They are now posted on the member website.

• Easter Brunch has been a long-standing Club tradition. Please get your reservations in to Lisa. This year’s event will be Sunday, April 21 between 10 am – 2 pm.

• Just to give you a heads up, the pool will open Friday, May 24 with a live band as we kick off the Memorial Day weekend.

• Entertainment throughout the year will continue in Whitaker’s Lounge every Friday night.

• As a reminder, the golf event calendar has been set and is posted on Foretees.

• Krista’s many fitness activities continue to be well received. Please contact Krista for more information.

I wish you all a fun and pleasant Easter holiday. Spring is upon us and there will be many fun activities the FCCC staff is planning for member enjoyment.

Sincerely, Bud Litchfield | President, Fort Collins Country Club

FitnessPilates for Golf

It’s likely fair to say that we are all anticipating the end of winter and the arrival of another golf season. Is this the year you’re planning to increase your speed, straighten your shot, and finally shave a couple shots off your game? Maybe you are just hoping to enjoy the season more and not injure (or re-injure) yourself. Just turn to the conditioning program golf pros choose to stay fit, finesse their technique, and stay off the injured list: the Pilates Reformer!

Both golf and Pilates are mind-body activities that share some of the same basic principles. From a biomechanical perspective, the golf swing is a complex, unnatural movement that works the whole body but asymmetrically. Addressing physical limitations through a series of Pliates exercises can help create symmetry and coordination, improve muscular endurance, and increase your range of motion.

Mike Wright, Master Golf Instructor and Certified Pilates Instructor, shared the following in his book Reformer for Golf:

• Contrary to popular belief, merely playing golf does NOT physically condition the body for golf.

• The highest area of risk on the body during golf is the lumbar spine.

• Golfers are most likely to bend over to touch the ground an average of 140-150 times per round, using the same leg to stabilize each time.

• It is estimated that 50% of golf-related injuries can be prevented by a consistent conditioning program and that the right exercise program can reduce injury healing times by 40-70%.

If you are ready to be transformed by integrating a regular Pilates routine into your off-course training, contact our Pilates Professional, Katie Cowart, at [email protected].
