Shell-shocked would be milder when the Darcl-Jamshedpur executives – Nishant Tanay and Yogesh Bansal – and Darc-HO representatives Aakib Mohamed and Subhajit Chatterjee were ‘requisitioned’ to participate in the ‘pillow therapy’.

Guided by Yogesh, the team reached the local market in Sakchi (not to be confused with Indian T-20 Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s spouse!) to purchase 50 soft pillows to be distributed to Darcl long haul drivers as a gift from KRK Foundation.

Why soft pillows? Good question.

Empirical evidence culled from my own 21,000 km travel in trucks conclusively proved that pilots prefer to sleep inside their cabins to safeguard their vehicle and cargo. More than their own safety! Yet they are not looked after well is a different story altogether. Medical advice suggests that they may suffer from back and neck pain which can be alleviated if their neck can be supported with soft pillows.

Well that is why KRK Foundation’s “DONATE SLEEP” Drive began in February 2013.

Transport Mitra Founder Selvan Dasaraj gave away the 1000th soft pillow to a Darcl Driver at its Jamshedpur Workshop. What was more significant was that the same Dasaraj gave away the FIRST soft pillow to a truck driver at Mahindra Automotive plant @ Haridwar in February 2013 under KRK Foundation’s DONATE SLEEP Drive.

It was the first MILESTONE for KRK Foundation. For ‘Sel’ too.

What next? KRK Foundation is aiming to add another ‘zero’ at the end of 1,000! Asap.
