The modern Olympic Games or Olympics are leading international sporting events featuring summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions.

The Olympic Games are considered the world's foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating.

The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the Summer and Winter Game salternating by occurring every four years but two years apart.

The Olympic Movement consists of international sports federations (IFs), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and organizing committees for each specific Olympic Games.

Commercialization(Effect of television)

The 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin were the first Games to be broadcast on television, though only to local audiences.

Viewership increased exponentially from the 1960s until the end of the century.

From a few users back in 90’s now there are millions of people which watch Olympics live.

SYMBOL

As we all know ,the Olympics symbol consists of 5 rings better known as the Olympic rings, and represents the unity of the five inhabited continents (Africa, America, Asia, Oceania, Europe). The colored version of the rings—blue, yellow, black, green, and red—over a white field forms the Olympic flag. These colors were chosen because every nation had at least one of them on its national flag.

CEREMONIES

OPENING CEREMONIES

This ceremony takes place before the events have occurred.

The ceremony typically starts with the hoisting of the host country's flag and a performance of its national anthem.

The host nation then presents artistic displays of music, singing, dance, and theater representative of its culture.

CLOSING CEREMONY

The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games takes place after all sporting events have concluded.

Flag-bearers from each participating country enter the stadium, followed by the athletes who enter together, without any national distinction.

Three national flags are hoisted while the corresponding national anthems are played: the flag of the current host country i.e the flag of Greece , to honor the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

OLYMPIC HOST CITIES

The first ever olypmics was held in Athens Greece in 1896

Since then this even t just went on going across the globe , For eg: France, USA , Germany and so on.

The recent olypmics were held in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.

and in 2020 it will take place in Tokyo JapanUSA has hosted Olypmis most of the times (8 times)

MEDAL PRESENTATION

A medal ceremony is held after each Olympic event is concluded. The winner, second and third-place competitors or teams stand on top of a three-tiered rostrum to be awarded their respective medals

AS per 2016 Rio Olympics:The country on top is USA with 121 medals(46 gold , 37 silver and 38 bronze)Followed by China with 70 medals and germany with 67 medals

SPORTS IN OLYMPICS

The Olympic Games program consists of 35 sports, 30 disciplines and 408 events.

Olympic sports are governed by international sports federations (IFs) recognized by the IOC as the global supervisors of those sports. There are 35 federations represented at the IOC

The different type of sports however present in Olympics are

USAIN BOLT:

Is a Jamaicansprinter. Regarded as the fastest human ever timed, he is the first man to hold both the 100 metres and 200 metres world records since fully automatic time became mandatory. He also holds the world record in the 4 × 100 metres relay. He is the reigning World and Olympic champion in these three events. He also hold the world record for 100 m race( 9.58 sec)

Michael Phelps

Is an American competitive swimmer and the most decorated Olympian of all time, with a total of 28 medals IN which there are 22 gold.Phelps is the long course world record holder in the 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley After the 2008 Summer Olympics, Phelps started the Michael Phelps Foundation, which focuses on growing the sport of swimming and promoting healthier lifestyles.

CONCLUSION

The Olympic Games unite nations throughout the world and show different countries the human side of nations of

which they are unfamiliar. While the Olympic Games are about competition and winning, they are also about

learning about other cultures and the similarities between all cultures.
