Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. CookWhat are some of your hobbies?I love hiking, backpacking, and anything outdoors.

What does Coloradical mean to you?It means Colorado is the best state in the country!

What is your favorite thing about BHS?I love the positive community we have hereand BHS and how supportive everyone is.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?I would go back to Ireland and travel around to thesmall towns in the countryside.

What is your favorite sport to watch?I love watching hockey. Go Red Wings!

What was your high school nickname?My friends called me Ambie.

What was your favorite subject in high school?My favorite class in high school was Forensic Science. We learned how to solve crimes.

What colleges did you attend?I started at Grand Valley State University and finished my bachelor's degree at Oakland University. Iattended Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art for a summer in Ireland. Then I finished my teaching certificateat Fort Lewis College.

What is your favorite quote?"You have to be odd to be number one." -Dr. Suess

.:. The national test date for the PSAT/NMSQT is Wednesday October 19 at 8:00 am. All Juniors atBHS will be taking this test. If your son/daughter is a Sophomore or a Freshman and would liketo take this exam, please contact Mrs. Miglinas by September 30. Students have begun test prepduring their ICAP time.

~ Free College Application Opportunities.:. Fort Lewis College, Colorado Mesa University and University of Colorado-Colorado Springs all

will be visiting BHS. Any senior interested in talking with the admissions representative from oneof these schools needs to sign up in the Counseling Office. If your student decides to apply onthese days, the application fee will be waived.

~ Fort Lewis College Junior Meeting.:. Any Junior who is curious about attending Fort Lewis College after high school or for information

regarding concurrent enrollment for next year is invited to attend a meeting with the FLCadmissions representatives. Students need to sign up in the counseling office.

~ Rotary Youth Exchange.:. Sophomores had the opportunity to hear about studying abroad recently. Any family that is

National Art Honor Society - from Sponsor Kathy Neal- September 29th at 6:00 we will be having our N.A.H.S.induction and awards banquet. This event is to welcome new members and reward veteran members for theirhard work last year. We will be serving lasagna and tea provided by the club and each member will bring eithergarlic bread, a dessert, a salad or a fruit dish. Members are required to attend and parents attending areappreciated. Each member will bring two pieces of art to display for this event. Photography is art too. Friends of Rachel- from Sponsor Jennifer Leithauser - Bayfield High School FORClub is busy planning our bigfundraiser for the year! On Saturday Oct. 1 we will host our 3rd annual Wolverine Dash 5K. Soccer - from Coach Chris Zoltowski - Despite a tough loss at home against rival Pagosa Springs (2-3), FinlayMarshall and company regrouped and performed a relentless attack against Kirtland Central, NM (3-2) resultingin a 7-1 victory. As of now, the Wolverines are 2-1-3 with a GD of +3. The Wolverines need your support athome this weekend, as they look for revenge against Ridgway (4-2) on Friday at 4:00 and to finish the 1-1standoff started with Telluride (4-1-3) this Saturday at 11:00 at our very own Wolverine Country Stadium.

Cheer - from Coach Aimee Whitmer - Your BHSCheerleaders are holding a cheer camp for ages 4-13 the lastweek of September. It's a great way to get your little cheerleader out on the track for a whole quarter with usand learn some new cheers! Check out our flier!

Football- from Coach Gary Heide - The Bayfield Wolverine varsity football team had a bye week this pastweek. We are getting ready for an exciting game vs the Durango Demons on their homecoming. The game willbe on Friday, Sept. 23rd at 7:00pm.The Wolverine N/C team had an exciting game vs the Ignacio Bobcats N. Bayfield won the game 53-12. Theirnext game is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26th at 4pm at home vs Bloomfield N.

Cross Country - from Coach Josh Walton - We co-hosted our home meet with Durango at Hillcrest Golf Courselast Friday night. We lit up almost the entire golf course with stadium lights. We had around 14 teams in boththe Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys races. The cross country team had a variety of light sticks and glow in the dark

Now that Autumn is in the air it is time to open the gym back up and begin preparing for the 2016-17 season.Open gyms will be held Tu/Th evenings from 6 to 7:30 pm. BHS Mini Cheer Camp Fall 2016

Who: Ages 4-13, boys and girls

What: Mini Cheer Camp with a Varsity Football game performance. Your child will learn several cheers andstunts to help cheer with the BHS cheerleaders during an entire first quarter of a home football game.

When: Camp will be held Monday September 26, Tuesday September 27, and Thursday September 29 from 4-5:30pm. Performance/cheering during first quarter of Varsity football game on Friday September 30 at 6:30pm

Where: Camp to be held in the BHS cafeteria, game at BHS football stadium

Details: The cost is $40 per child PLUS admission to football game. $40 per child includes the camp, theperformance and a t-shirt to wear for the performance; it DOES NOT include admission forfamily/friends/guardians into the football game. Note: admission for Bayfield students is free. Please bringregistration form and fee to your child's school office by September 21 st to ensure your child receives at-shirt.Registration will be accepted on Mon Sep 26th, but t-shirt may not be guaranteed.
