“Living in Christ’s Love” The Theme statement of the year 2016
I ask God from the wealth of his glory to give you power through his Spirit to be strong in your inner selves, and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through
faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love, so that you, together with all God's people, may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ's love. Yes, may you come to know his love-although it can
never be fully known-and so be completely filled with the very nature of God. Ephesians 3:16-19 【TEV】
The Japanese congregation entrusts me to pray and select the theme statement each year. This is the time of the year again to meditate on next year’s theme statement. “Peace with God and Each Other” is the 2015 theme with II Corinthians 13:11 “… Live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you” as the theme verse.【NKJV】I prayed and chose “Living in Christ’s Love” for next year’s motto for our congregation. This presentment may sound so fundamental and elemental that all Christians know about it. However, I believe that it is the most difficult one to implement. This statement can be challenging for every member of our congregation, including myself. This statement came into my mind as I was reading Ephesians 3:16-19 (above). But now it
is the Japanese congregation’s turn to pray and choose the verses for next year. At the end
of the year, I will be happy to share with the readers of this article what the Japanese
congregation has chosen.

Dear Olivet Family:
Luke 3:11 “If you have two coats, give one away,” He said. “Do the same with your food.”
Thanksgiving is a great time of year. It affords us interaction with the community, friends and family to remember the blessings that we have received. It is also a good time to give to those less fortunate. The evening before Thanksgiving Day, our church helps serve a fellowship dinner for the International students. It is held at the Baptist Student Center. After preparing an abundant tossed salad that afternoon, a group of helpers from OBC go to assist, serve, and mingle with the students.
JOIN US! On Thanksgiving Day at our Olivet morning service, under the Table of Abundance prepared by the Japanese congregation, people contribute canned goods/nonperishable food items, to give to others in need.
CAN YOU BRING SOMETHING? Two days later, on November 28th, our Food Pantry and Clothes Closet distribute bags of food and limited clothing items to the many people who line up for our monthly outreach ministry: 8:30-11 AM.
CAN YOU HELP? Ministry is never done alone. Come experience God’s awesome transformation in both our lives and those we encounter.

Harvest Season
“Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and
place where He Himself was going to come. And He was saying to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the
laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”
Luke 10:1-2
With recognition of the Fall being a season of harvest, we as believers and followers of Jesus Christ look to
God’s word. In Luke 10 Jesus identifies those that are awaiting the message of the gospel as “the harvest.”
He sends out a group of disciples to announce His coming. He declares to the disciples, “The harvest is
plentiful, but the laborers are few.”
As we recognize Fall as a season of harvest, let us as disciples of Jesus Christ see the spiritual implications
behind that. May we today still hear Jesus’ words, “The harvest is plentiful,” there are many who are
waiting to hear. Romans 10:14 says, “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How
will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?”
Jesus also says, “The laborers are few.” During this harvest season let us focus on, and be even more intentional about, evangelism. Let November be our Evangelism emphasis month. We have kicked off this month with our Fall Festival, inviting people out of the darkness to hear the gospel of Light. At the end of the month we will gather and give thanks at our Thanksgiving celebration. Let us pray this month that we will be laborers for the harvest so that we might rejoice and give thanks for
the souls that have been reaped for the Kingdom of Heaven! -jason

GET IN THE GAME - An update from Jeff
I recently shared with our youth that in high school I tried out for the varsity basketball team. At the time I was disappointed to learn that I didn’t make the team and would instead be playing on the junior varsity team. My disappointment quickly changed when I realized there were only six players on the JV team and only myself, and a friend were tall enough to play center or forward. My height, and the size of the team, essentially ensured that I would not only be a starter but would get to play throughout the entire game. In the end I was happier on the JV team than on the varsity team because I received more play time; after all, it’s not fun sitting on the bench while others are in the game. The purpose of sharing this story with our youth was to illustrate a simple point; our Christian walk is a lot more fun when we’re in the game by actively serving rather than warming the bench, or chair as the case may be. In Ephesians 2:10 we see that we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which He prepared for us (ESV). God has prepared good works for us to do. Our role is to be active in serving so that we can fulfill those opportunities God has created for us.
Within the youth ministry we’re starting a Student Ministry Team. This team will lead the way by serving in the youth
ministry and helping to direct the youth ministry as God leads. I would encourage our youth and everyone in our
church to get in the game and be active in serving; after all, it’s a lot more fun in our faith when we’re serving rather
than warming the bench.

Ignite worship night is a gathering of different Christian youth ministries to bring them together for a night of praise, worship, and fellowship. Ignite will be held at Hawaii Chinese Baptist Church on Friday, November 13 at 7pm. Evan Arashiro’s band, Scarlet Cord, will be leading the worship music.

are able to shop for Christmas presents at no cost.

In October, the Olivet Baptist Preschool went on an
excursion to the Waimanalo Farms Pumpkin Patch (pictured above).
Thank you to all who helped with the Fall Festival. Fifty families, 39 of whom are involved with the preschool, participated in the festivities. (See page 4 for pictures.)
What is the Shelter?: It is a ministry that provides a smaller scale worship setting to supplement our Sunday morning service. It regularly includes a time of worship through music, prayer, teaching of God’s Word and discussion. Where: We currently are meeting in the Lower Auditorium of Olivet Baptist Church to aid in the sense of intimacy. When: Come visit The Shelter. Friday evenings at 6:30pm in the lower auditorium. Who: The Shelter ministry is for anyone who is seeking a more intimate worship setting that is safe and welcoming. It is an ideal place for people who might be looking for a smaller group experience and be open to discussing openly with others their thoughts and under-standing of God’s Word. We have come to see over the last few months that every week you will never know who will be there. We have also come to see that even if a visitor comes just one week, there has been significant interaction and ministry that takes place in that person’s life. We see God using this ministry as a place where a person might come just for one day to be ministered to. With the faithfulness of the few that commit to serving in this ministry, we are ready to connect with whomever will walk through the doors. Why: There may be some that may not find our Sunday morning services to be a refuge they desire. The Shelter offers a different time and environment for those who seek it.
