Environmental Impacts of Lime and Cement

Cement: For every 10 tons of cement produced there are 9 tons of CO2 released into the atmosphere.

Lime: For every 10 tons of lime produced there are 8 tons of CO2 released into the atmosphere.

Learning from Mother NatureLithification

The process of turning soil into rock

Weathered rocks turn into clay. Then over millions of years Mother Nature transforms the clay, sand and silt back into rocks, when the environment provides the perfect amount of water, pressure and naturally occurring chemicals found in the Earth’s crust.

Bionic Soil Solutions duplicates this process in 24 hours, using the same naturally occurring chemicals (mined from the earth’s crust) along with water (delivered from a water truck) and pressure (a 10-15 ton roller) to turn the soil into a rock-hard surface.

Bionic Soil Solutions “Lithification Technology” transforms sand, silt, clay into a rock-hard, water resistant surface in 24 hours!

America’s High Cost Infrastructure

The United States federal budget has a mandatory highway maintenance line item of $43 billion dollars per year.

The federal government invested $58 billion in transportation improvements for fiscal year 2011

There are 4.05 million miles of road in the United States, according to the Federal Highway Administration.

US DOT "Report to Congress, in 2008 stated….“All levels of government should be investing $139 billion per year in highway improvements just to maintain the current physical and performance conditions on our nation’s highways”

A “Bionic Subgrade” can reduce the amount of asphalt by as much as 65%

Page 7: OilandAg_Print

Current Road Building Practices

Base course is the standard road material used on unsealed dirt roads and for the sub-base materials below asphalt and chip seal surfaces in the USA for nearly a century.

The U.S. uses 2.5 to 3 Billion tons of base course each year. Large chucks of virgin aggregate are mined and hauled away to the rock crusher, then hauled again to be screened. It is then mixed with approximately 50% sand and hauled again to storage facilities. Finally it arrives at the job sites, after using extreme amounts of fossil fuels.

Asphalt highways are in excess of $1 million dollars per “lane-mile”.

Over 3500 tons of CO2 is released into the air, per lane-mile for the construction of asphalt roads.

Soil Stabilization

Stabilization began during the 1960's and 70's General shortages of aggregates and fuel resources

Forced engineers to consider alternatives to the conventional techniques

Replacing poor soils at building sites Shipped-in aggregates that possessed more favorable

engineering characteristics.

How does it work?

All soil is made up of sand, silt, clay and rock

2000 types of clay and countless variations of sand silt and rock

Common denominator found in all soil types Aluminosilicates (minerals composed of aluminum, silicon, oxygen and

countercations)

Most abundant minerals found in the Earth’s crust and the major component of kaolin and other clay minerals.

The Bionic Soil Solution dissolves silicon and aluminum ions and the neighboring silicon or aluminum hydroxide molecules, which then undergo a condensation reaction.

The application causes these “monomers” and other silicon and aluminum hydroxide molecules to poly-condense or polymerize, to form rigid chains or nets of oxygen bonded tetrahedral.

The Results

Physical properties of treated soil can often approach and sometimes even exceed the structural strength of concrete.

Laboratory testing with Bionic Soil Solutions™ has demonstrated unprecedented CBR results well over 100, which measures the strength and load bearing capacity of a road.

Page 12: OilandAg_Print

CBR (California Bearing Ratio)

Garden soil = 3 CBR

Pit run and 1 ½” minus base course = 20-40 CBR

Engineered Type II BC (¾” minus) = 55-70 CBR

Crushed limestone = 100 CBR

96-hour soaked CBR test, simulates a road under water for 4 days

Page 13: OilandAg_Print

“A major breakthrough in soil science.” Unprecedented CBR results well above 100!

Dry untreated Sand and Silt | Remains hard under water indefinitely!

Page 14: OilandAg_Print

RECORDCBR RESULTS

Actual CBR test results (right) using Bionic Soil Solutions on base course

Untreated soil: CBR of 20

After treatment: CBR of 186

CBR of 212

Up to 1000% increase in the CBR numbers, reducing import materials and potentially a reduced thickness in pavement designs.

Page 15: OilandAg_Print

The end result is rock-hard,hydrophobic roads

Sovereign Nations Native Americans

Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)

BIA has approximately 27,000 miles of dirt roads.

FY 2007, only 4,100 miles or 15% were considered “acceptable”

The remaining 23,000 miles of roads, were determined to be “unacceptable”

The Navajo Nation has 22,000 miles of roads and 14 airports located in New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah, all in dire need of assistance.

25,000 homes needed on the Navajo Nation. Living in high quality, adobe earth block homes is a strong preference for Native Americans. Currently the homes are being built with low quality wood frame construction.

BOPCO completes 11th pad, 9-30-14

Bass Oil Production Company, (BOPCO) is the first to use Bionic Soil Solutions for an environmental protection for oil leaks on battery pads.

Synthetic liners can tear with heavy oil trucks turning on liners with sharp caliche’ rocks underneath.

Oil spills can cost millions of dollars in clean up and loss of production.

9-28-14, first oil spill occurs on a battery pad treated with Bionic Road Solutions.
