October 4, 2017

Dear Hosanna Family and Friends, On Palm Sunday we lifted the new steeple cross to its post, on a brand new roof completed. On Easter Sunday we celebrated the retirement of all of our congregational debt from the last campus development project which included the parking lot, retention pond relocation, landscaping and a variety of other things. Now the time has come to turn our attention from the back yard, so to speak, to the front yard at Hosanna as we begin the next campus development project. For several years now we have been discussing building a shade structure over the patio area and replacing the lighted sign by the road with a digital, two sided sign for better communication with our family and neighbors. We also need to landscape the area between the patio and Brown Road. These projects together will create a beautiful face to the “front lawn” here at Hosanna. The Church Council and I would like to place this combined project on the table as we begin a capitol campaign drive to make this project a reality. We have held discussions with a few contractors to get pricing and have identified a single contractor who will handle the entire shade and sign portion of the project. The landscaping we plan to do primarily utilizing some in-house labor. This entire project will require an investment of about $200,000. Exact numbers will depend on the cost of permit fees. I ask you to consider contributing special offerings for this project which are above and beyond the regular offerings we receive for daily operations. When we have raised the funds to complete the project, or if you the Voters determine that additional funding plans might be taken at our November 5th Voters Meeting, then we will proceed immediately with the construction work of this project. The digital sign will be a two sided sign, 4’ tall by 8’ long and will be installed on the existing sign base out front, in a “V” shape so it is more readable from the road. The shade structure design can be seen in the accompanying rendition. The shade project includes removing the existing concrete patio, brick planters and trees. Then we will install electrical lines underground to run power to where each post will be. We will also install a water line so a mister system can be added to the new shade structure as well. Speakers and lights will also be installed on the shade structure. The perimeter posts will be 10’ tall and the center post is 18’ tall. Four blue sails will attach at the top and four more sails will attach at about the 15’ height of the center post. We also plan to install a cross on the top of the center post so it will function as a steeple visible from Brown Road. Then new concrete will be poured to create a whole new patio space. This

structure will include beautiful blue sails and is designed to let wind through and to withstand the monsoons. It will be visually pleasing and will create much greater functionality for the patio space. Please help us make this project a reality for the sake of our campus and ministry we share. Imagine the visitor who comes and they are welcomed by this beautiful space and the people of Hosanna as we are enjoying its use. And imagine the jump in quality of our communication with our neighbors, friends and families with the digital sign in place. And imagine the cleaned and landscaped space out front declaring to the neighborhood that we love our church, we love our neighbors and all this because we love our Lord and Savior. This is a valuable project for our Hosanna ministry in a variety of ways. We know this will require a significant commitment from us all in order to make this happen. But the time has come. Please pray over this project, and consider what you can do to help us reach the goal of $200,000 to complete this project. I and the Church Council very much appreciate your on-going partnership in this mission we share as a Family of Faith Shaping Lives In Christ. God’s Peace be with you always, Pastor Paul Frank

Board of Ed

Board of Education A-A-A-H-H-H-H: the sound we think of or actually do make when we step outdoors on these beautiful, cool, and really gorgeous mornings. And yes, the busiest times of the year are fast approaching as we watch all the preparations for V.B.S (the dates,Oct.8 at 12-3:30, p.m. and Oct. 9-11 from 5-8 p.m.) so that our children can have some fun, fellowship and take advantage of the opportunities to learn about our God and Lord Savior Jesus Christ during this Fall Break. Volunteers are still needed in various activities, so take a look at the sign-up sheet in the Narthex, sign up for something you would like to help with and then come and enjoy the fun and camaraderie. You may call the office at 480-984-1414 if you need more info. We are also in need of water bottles which can be dropped off at the office Little Palms School is busy learning about Jesus and how much he loves them as the children engage in many projects and activities to bring this about. The classes are also discovering how to get along with others, how to enjoy their friends, and are taking part in learning activities that help prepare them for the academic future. In addition to all that, the classrooms will soon be filled with spooky objects, funny objects and much fun associated with Halloween. Come visit the classrooms and see the wonderful projects that are being constructed. Speaking of constructing, come join us at Helping Hands which meets on Monday mornings at 8:30 a.m. We prepare materials for the teachers to use in the classroom so, please, if you would like to join us in our pasting, cutting, gluing, stapling, laminating etc. you would be very welcome. We usually try to limit our working time to 1 1/2 hours, but this ambitious goal only can be accomplished with more volunteers helping hands. Hope to see you on Mondays. Please remember Soles for Souls, our gathering of shoes and lightly used jackets for students at Taft and Stevenson Schools. Please bring your donations to the sanctuary or if you prefer, a cash donation can be made so that our Super Shopping Team can do their job and buy the shoes needed. Thank you so much for your generosity and help for those in need.

LWML Lutheran Women’s Missionary League

The Women’s Missionary League is a nation-wide organization. We have a group here at Hosanna but the group has been losing ladies due to age, death, etc. We are looking for new members. Besides nation-wide missionary projects, we support things at Hosanna. Past projects at Hosanna have been: supporting our members who were attending seminary to become pastors; providing meals following Advent and Lenten services for a free-will offering; and last year we purchased an up-to-date TV with many options for use in our Learning Center. There are no dues; just what you contribute. Our LWML MITE BOX is out for the congregation to contribute the second Sunday of each month. Our first scheduled meeting for this year is December 9th at 11:00 am for a Christmas Salad Bar Luncheon. We invite all to attend. We will also host our Silver Tea in January which will include a speaker … details to follow. If you have any questions, contact Diane Hillman @480-984-069

October 2017

October 1 "Power to Overcome Worry and Anxiety" Lutheran Hour Speaker: Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz Thanksgiving and anxiety are two opposing forces. Have you ever thanked God for your problems, pains, and suffering? (Philippians 4:4-13) October 8 "No Selfies Needed" Lutheran Hour Speaker: Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz God isn't afraid of messy people. He loves the broken, embraces the outcast, and seeks the lost. (Philippians 4:4-14) October 15 "Luther the Man: Called by God to Boast in Him " Lutheran Hour Speaker: Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz Although Martin Luther is widely regarded as one of the most influential people of the last 500 years, he knew he was no big deal, compared to Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:26-31) October 22 "The Enduring Reformation Moment and Message of Grace" Lutheran Hour Speaker: Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz The Reformation was quite a moment for Martin Luther, but also for people who suddenly heard of a merciful God Who really cared for them. (2 Corinthians 4:13-18) October 29 "A Reformation Invitation - the Just Live by Faith " Lutheran Hour Speaker: Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz 500 years ago, Martin Luther rediscovered a truth that turned the world upside down: the just shall live by faith. Can this message transform you today? (Romans 1:16-17)
