A Message from Fr. Karl: As we continue in the next month to prepare for the renewal of our Adoration Chapel, we hear a witness from someone who has experienced the gift and peace of adoration…

When going to adoration, I’m sure it is different for everyone.

I got involved with adoration in 2003 when I was looking for a woodworking project for a contest. I happened to read in the Leaven about a gentleman from Ascension parish, Paul Jablonski, who was making simple, wood Monstrances and giving them for free to anyone who asked for one, whether nationally or internationally. Since then, I have helped make and send Monstrances all over the United States, plus Honduras, Malaysia, Philippines, lower Africa, India, etc. Bishop Muldoon (our sister parish in Honduras), took our Monstrances to some woodworkers in his diocese, and they now build Monstrances for their parishes that are too far away to have weekly visits from priests.

I began attending my own hour of adoration shortly after building those first Monstrances. It is great to realize that we are helping in some way to bring Our Lord to people who are too remote or too poor to have a parish church of their own, but who can have adoration. I read the responses from the recipients of the Monstrances, and realize that they are praying in front of Our Lord, just like we are.

When I go to adoration, I go once a week for one hour. I pray for people I know who need our prayers. Also, I pray for those who have passed away. I pray for those who I don’t know, like those involved in current events. I pray for the souls in purgatory, for those who have no one to pray for them and for the graces to be delivered to whomever needs them most. And, I thank the Lord for all of the things He has done for our family and answering our prayers.

When going to adoration it does take time and commitment. It is also a good time to study and reflect on readings from the bible. You get a better under-standing of the readings when you reflect on them; I also use the study books from School of Faith, and read about the Lives of the Saints. Then my hour with Our Lord is over. So until next week, see you then, David A. Roth

October 18, 2015 Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading, Isaiah 53:10-11 (146B), In the first reading, a loyal servant makes the ultimate sacrifice. But God grants him a great victory. Second Reading, Hebrews 4:14-16, In the second reading, we have a summary of Jesus’ life. He is our great and sinless high priest, but He also endured temptation and can sympathize with us in our weakness. Gospel, Mark 10:35-45, In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that places of honor in the kingdom of God are not His to give. In fact, authentic discipleship demands suffering and a total commitment to service.

The Church and the Family We are living in a historic moment in the Church as she strives to support, encourage and build up the family through the Synod on the Family that is currently taking

place in Rome. This is the second phase of meetings with Pope Francis, cardinals and bishops from around the world to discuss the strengths and challenges of Christian family life. After the conclusion of the Synod, Pope Francis will write a letter to the Universal Church. As we look forward to the Holy Spirit’s strengthening of the family, through the Synod and Pope Francis’ letter, may our families strive to put God first and to grow in living the faith.
