Dear Parishioners, As you all know Msgr. Gonzales just returned from his pilgrimage to Lourdes this weekend! He will resume “From the Pastor’s Corner” next week. Blessings!

Lourdes is a small market town lying in the foothills of the Pyrenees, famous for the Marian apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes said to have occurred in 1858 to Bernadette Soubirous. Saint Marie-Bernarde Soubirous (1/7/1844 -- 4/16/1879) was a miller's daughter born in Lourdes, France and is venerated as a Christian mystic and Saint in the Catholic Church. Soubirous is best known for her Marian apparitions of "a small young lady" who asked for a chapel to be built at a cave-grotto in Massabielle where the apparitions occurred between 2/11 and 7/16, 1858. She would later receive recognition when the lady who appeared to her identified herself as the Immaculate Conception. On 2/11/1858, at 11 h in the morning, Bernadette went with her younger sister Antoinette and her friend Jeanne Abadie to Massabielle for gathering some wood there. Outside the "Cachot" was the thick, humid fog which was so typical for Lourdes. Later, Bernadette described herself in front of the Pope: "I heard a noise similar to a gust. I raised my eyes to the grotto and saw a lady, clad all in white. She wore a white dress, a veil which was also white, a blue girdle and a yellow rose on each foot." This was the beginning of the visions and the unique mission of Bernadette. Lourdes became a place of pilgrimage, known in the whole world. During the time from 2/11 till 7/16, 1858 happened the 18 apparitions. The most time, Mary just prayed together with Bernadette or let herself be looked at. Other times she spoke to her, gave her orders, but above all she passed her the message and the religious signification for Lourdes.

Reflections on Today’s Readings

FOCUS: Will you accept God’s invitation to His banquet? It begins now and continues in the life to come. Many of us want things for a cheap or a reduced price, yet we are told that the best things in life are free. God generously gives us all that we need. We can enjoy God’s abundance in this life and the next by listening to the Lord and following His will in our daily life. What a bargain!

LITURGY OF THE WORD: Isaiah foretells the bounty that the Lord will provide for His people when they accept his invitation to come back to the Lord. Jesus, in today’s Gospel, also tells of God’s bounty. If we accept the Lord’s invitation to live life with Him, we will be filled with joy.

Masses: Sat: 5:30 p.m. Sun: 7:30 a.m. Sun: 9:00 a.m. Sun: 10:30 a.m. Sun: 12:00 NN. Sun: 7:30 p.m.

Celebrants: Msgr. Gonzales Msgr. Cox Fr. Tom Msgr. Gonzales Msgr. Vadakin Msgr. Gonzales

Living Faith For Kids The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures He gives me repose; beside

restful waters He leads me; He refreshes my soul. ~ Psalm 23:1-3

This is one of the best known psalms or songs of the Old Testament. You hear it often, sometimes even on TV and in the movies. If you have time today, read the entire psalm. It will warm your heart with a wonderful image of God’s love for us. This psalm tells us that God is always by our side. That God gives us rest and leads us down the path to do good things in His name. It tells us that God will take care of all our needs. And that we shall dwell in His house for years to come. Try to remember all the good things God has done for you. Then say a prayer of thanks to God!

Ministry Equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith…

Know all the access routes to your children’s school in case of emergency “Back-to-school does not have to mean back-to-worrying. Though safety inside school is ultimately the responsibility of the principal and school staff, parents can take a few basic steps to en-sure a safe school experience.” Know travel routes to and from the school. Make sure you and your child know both primary and alternate routes. In an emergency, roads can be blocked and it's important to have a backup plan. Fact of Life The Pope Speaks

“May no one use religion," the Pope said, “as a pretext for actions against human dignity and against the fundamental rights of every man and woman, above all, the right to life and the right of everyone to religious freedom! When the dignity of the human person is respected and his or her rights recognized and guaranteed," the Pope said, “creativity and interdependence thrive, and the potential of the human personality is unleashed through actions that further the common good.”

World Mission Sunday - The Society for the Propagation of Faith Collection takes place

next Sunday, October 19th. “Today a vast numbers of people still do not know Jesus Christ. For this reason, the mission ad gentes continues to be most urgent. All the members of the Church are called to participate in this mission, for the Church is missionary by her very nature: she was born “to go forth”. World Mission Day is a privileged moment when the faithful of various continents engage in prayer and concrete gestures of solidarity in support of the young Churches in mission lands. It is a celebration of grace and joy. A celebration of grace, because the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father, offers wisdom and strength to those who are obedient to his action. A celebration of joy, because Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, sent to evangelize the world, supports and accompanies our mission-ary efforts. (MESSAGE OF POPE FRANCIS, FOR WORLD MISSION DAY 2014). Envelopes are in the pews. Thank you for your generosity. God Bless!!
