When a society such as ours devalues human life, all kinds of evil acts are possible: abortion, euthanasia, and violence against those who are perceived as not worthy of or possessing human dignity. These things and the thinking behind them bear the evil fruit of racism, bigotry and hatred. No such society can long survive or escape God’s condemnation and judgement. Here is a brief statement from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on the subject. Fr.Tony “For the Church, there is no distinction between defending human life and promoting the dignity of the human person. Pope Benedict XVI writes in Caritas in Veritate that: "The Church forcefully maintains this link between life ethics and social ethics, fully aware that 'a society lacks solid foundations when, on the one hand, it asserts values such as the dignity of the person, justice and peace, but then, on the other hand, radically acts to the contrary by allowing or tolerating a variety of ways in which human life is devalued and violated, especially where it is weak or marginalized.’' As a gift from God, every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. The life and dignity of every person must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condition. The right to life is the first and most fundamental principle of human rights that leads Catholics to actively work for a world of greater respect for human life and greater commitment to justice and peace.” NCYC will be selling mums and pumpkins this weekend of September 30-October 1. PASTOR’S NOTES . . .

October 1, 2017 October is Respect Life Month for the Church.

Fr.Tony

“For the Church, there is no distinction between defending human life and promoting the dignity of the human person. Pope Benedict XVI writes in Caritas in Veritate that: "The Church forcefully maintains this link between life ethics and social ethics, fully aware that 'a society lacks solid foundations when, on the one hand, it asserts values such as the dignity of the person, justice and peace, but then, on the other hand, radically acts to the contrary by allowing or tolerating a variety of ways in which human life is devalued and violated, especially where it is weak or marginalized.’'

As a gift from God, every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. The life and dignity of every person must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condition. The right to life is the first and most fundamental principle of human rights that leads

Catholics to actively work for a world of greater respect for human life and greater commitment to justice and peace.”

VOCATION VOICE: Jesus emptied Himself and took the form of a slave. Am I willing to empty myself to follow the Lord? Pray for those who are called to follow in priesthood or religious life.

DIOCESAN ACTIVITIES

Soon we will offer the opportunity for special home prayer. There will be a vocation crucifix to keep in your home for a couple of weeks to be a reminder to pray for vocations. If you would like to take advantage of this blessing, please e-mail Sister Mary Ruth ([email protected]) with your name and which week-end Mass you attend.

Sincere congratulations to our newly Confirmed members of Annunciation: Gabe Bailey, Michael the Archangel Trenton Barbour, Sebastian Kody Bisges, Joseph Austin Bolin, Luke Nicholas Bolinger, David Liam Glenn, Andrew Caitlin Halsey, Elizabeth Payten Hampton, Sarah Morgan Heather, Mildred Paula Hernandez, Jude Thaddeus Hannah Hill, Francis of Assisi Hayden Hoellering, Francis of Assisi Matthew Hurt, Gregory the Great Colden Imhoff, Paul Emmanuel Ihenacho, Joseph Jack Johnston, Francis of Assisi Sydney Labuary, Elizabeth Angel Lemus, Paulo Maria Lemus, Margaret of Antioch Turner Myers, Joseph Jessica Reynolds, Rita Emily Serna, Lady of Guadalupe Emily Strein, Catherine of Siena Brooklyn VanLoo, Elizabeth of Hungary Jocelyn Wells, Margaret Jesse Wingate, Michael the Archangel

Reminder: If you are going to the hospital for surgery or a procedure, know you are encouraged to ask Father for a blessing beforehand. Also, please contact the parish office or Sister Mary Ruth so we can be a support to you. Let us know if you want to be on the bulletin prayer list. Ordinarily, in October we attach information about stewardship opportunities, ways to serve the parish and community, and ask for volunteers. Almost always the same people respond that we already have on our list. Thank you to those many very generous parishioners. This month those papers will be available in the church entrance for anyone not on the list to respond by filling out and returning them to the box provided in the church entrance. Thank you! COUNCIL NOTES The roofs on the garage and house have been repaired after hail damage and insurance paid for it. The Church roof also needs attention. Father has contacted a company to repair our stained glass windows. We will have a Marian Conference on November 7 & 8. It is time to elect members to the parish council. If you would like to serve your parish in this capacity, please contact Evelyn Jobe or S. Mary Ruth to be put on the ballot. Election will be in December. The major role is to help support the faith growth of Annunciation Parish. This means to be a practicing Catholic and to help the pastor in his role of leading all of us. Pray about this and see if the Lord may be asking you to serve your parishioners in this capacity. Those currently on the council are: Tawna Dutcher, Julie Haslag, Ruthie Adams, DiAnne Naros, and Eric Schroeter. Those whose term is up are: Emilio Juarez, Becky Bloch, and Evelyn Jobe. Evelyn can be re-elected. If you have questions, feel free to contact any of us. Bulletin Announcement in Lieu of a Special Collection Since our special collection for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, we have seen Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit Florida, Puerto Rico, and other islands in the Caribbean. Another devastating earthquake occurred in Mexico. In all, hundreds are dead and thousands have lost their homes. If you would like to help, you can donate to Catholic Charities (catholiccharities.org), which is helping victims in the U.S., or Catholic Relief Services (www.crs.org), which is working with those Mexico and the Caribbean. You can also write a check to the parish for this purpose and we will send it on. Put in the memo

that it is for Hurricane Relief. Thank you and please keep in your prayers all of those suffering from these disasters.

CATHOLIC STEWARDSHIP APPEAL 2018 This year’s CSA theme of “One Faith. One Family” makes it clear that the Church is a community called by Christ to continue His mission on earth. There is a universal Church led by the Holy Father in Rome, and a local Church called the Diocese of Jefferson City, led by our Bishop and comprised of 95 parishes and 15 missions! A letter from Bishop Gaydos should arrive very soon asking for your generous support of the Catholic Stewardship Appeal. If you’ve given in the past, please consider renewing a previous gift or even increasing it. If you haven’t given before, consider the blessings you have been given and make a CSA pledge on behalf of your diocesan family. Missouri Catholic Conference 50th Anniversary Celebrate 50 years of the Missouri Catholic Conference (MCC) at the MCC’s 50th Anniversary on Saturday, October 7, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Jefferson City. This free event is sponsored by the Missouri Bishops and everyone is invited. The event includes an address by Papal Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Christophe Pierre. Workshops with a focus on Catholic education, pro-life, and social justice will be offered. A hot, free lunch is provided, and the day will end with a Mass concelebrated by the bishops. Please pre-register for the event by going to MOCatholic.org or calling 1-800-456-1679. See you on October 7!

Fatima Celebration In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the final Apparition of Our Lady at Fatima, Portugal, the Cathedral of St. Joseph will be hosting Fr. Charles Becker on Sunday morning, October 15th at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. (We will pray the Rosary before Mass at 10:35 a.m.) Following Mass, Fr. Becker will talk about the Apparitions at Fatima and forming Prayer Cenacles in the manner of the Marian Movement of Priests. Fr. Charles Becker is priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago and will be the celebrant of Mass and our speaker. Father Becker is the National Responsible for the Marian Movement of Priest in the United States of America, a worldwide Movement begun by Our Lady in Fatima through Fr. Stefano Gobbi who received interior locutions explaining the need for Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Fr. Becker has for many years been the Emcee at the Annual Marian Conference in St. Louis. “Our goal is to promote the formation of Cenacles in homes, in communities and parishes as we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima.” The Rosary, Mass and talk will last about two hours. Following the formal presentation, Fr Becker will move into the Chapel for those interested in forming Cenacles or having personal questions for Fr. Becker. Everyone is invited and there is no cost. For more information, please contact David Lankford at 573-694-8362 or [email protected].
