Housing, Buildings, and Public spaces

• The front yards of almost all the houses have desert landscaping with only a handful of houses having the traditional grass front yard. All houses look to be well kept and maintained

• Both houses and apartments in this area are very well maintained and don’t exhibit any indication that repairs need to be done. There are housing developments within the community where new houses are still being built

• The houses in this community are less than 8 years old with most houses being built between 2008-2013

• Biking trails and walking paths can be found all over and there are multiple parks near by

Parks and Streets

• Parks are used by kids of all ages. Many of the kids are accompanied by a parent

• Park is very clean and well maintained there are baseball diamonds and basketball courts connected to the park as well as tennis courts and a volley ball area

•There are barbecue grilles and covered seating for gatherings at the park

•Sidewalks and streets are very clean. Bike lanes are available for those that like to ride. Multiple walking and bike trails can be seen

Entertainment and Culture

• Public transportation is available in the area. However having your own private vehicle would be more convenient

• People within the community can be seen biking, walking, jogging in the morning and evening hours when it is cooler since summer heat is in full effect

• There are no historical landmarks, museums, or stadiums near by. However there is the West Sahara Library within 10 minutes drive from my community as well as multiple casinos including Red Rock, Sun Coast and Rampart casino for entertainment and gambling

Commercial activity, and Industry

• No industry seen near or within the community

• Traffic signs are easily seen and business signs are also easy to read and commercial centers are well maintained and clean

• There are vacant building spaces that are available for commercial use in shopping centers around the community

• Multitude of business that surround the community. Including grocery stores, restaurants, and small businesses

Public Transportation and Land use

• The major highway 215 runs through my community and helps to connect people within Summerlin to other parts of Las Vegas

• Throughout the community all Bridges, Roads, and sidewalks are properly maintained

• Public transportation is available and buses can be seen in the community area

• The community is within short distance of the mountains. There is still a good amount of space left to build

Environmental quality/faith communities/health services/Traffic

• There is minimal traffic in my community. There is an increase in cars on the road during rush

• No traffic jams ever observed unless and accident occurs on the street. Bike lanes are often in use by bikers in the morning

• Air quality is good since we are a good distance away from downtown and the strip. Nothing in the air can be smelt and heavy winds occur in this area

• Summerlin Hospital and Southern Hills hospital are within short driving distances of the community as well as a variety of churches. Mormon, catholic , Baptist, Jewish and Christian

Public services/Community Safety/School and education

• Nearest police substation is closer to the northern part of Summerlin. It serves our area of Summerlin as well.

• Fire department is located right next to Summerlin hospital

• Streets are well lit at night and it is not hard to drive at night in our community

• There are two public high schools within Summerlin as well as a Magnet and two private high schools

• Multiple middle and grade schools are scattered through out the community as well as private learning centers for children like tutor club and mathnasium

Political activity, community organizations, media, Differences betweenneighborhoods or areas of the community

• Garden Park Community Center is the nearest to my community• Multiple organizations are located within the community • There are some designated areas in the community for voters to go to

during election season• No local media, newspaper, TV or Radio station close by but there

are some websites for community information both government and private owned

• The community down the street from me is a social area that people within the community come to gather to socialize and for community events

• Some differences between my community and other parts is new and old developments, stores and houses are nice and clean in newly developed area compared to old area.

Summary

• My community is very clean and well maintained. Even older areas of Summerlin that have been around for much longer look as good as the new developments in the area

• Its location and distance from the strip help to make it a quiet and more peaceful community. The fact that it is secluded means that crime rate here is relatively lower than in other parts of Las Vegas

• There is a multitude of public parks in and around the community that are very well cared for. Plenty of shopping centers that are in proximity within the community that provide the residents with a great number of services, which increases convenience. Close access to the freeway also makes it convenient for people that work at or close to the strip for work

• There is little to no pollution in or around my community. Both the Police and fire departments are with in reasonable distance and I feel there is sufficient law enforcement presence in this area. Conducting this survey has made me realize how fortunate I am to be able to live in such a great and wonderful community and also appreciate how hard it is to make such a great community thrive.
