2. OPERATION

2.1 GENERAL

The Meter-register is operated by a drive shaft connected to a group of gears on the gear plate, which converts the drive revolutions by the appropiate ratio. The output bevel gear of the group drives a bevel gear which is connected to the drive shaft and clutch assembly. In rotating this shaft drives a gear on the clutch assembly which in turn drives a gear on the right (unit) wheel assembly. Revolutions are then accumulated on the wheels. In addition, this rotating shaft also drives the bracket group connected to the accumulative totalizer shaft, thus both displays are driven from the same source assuring accurate recording of information. During the reset operation, the clutch is disconnected from the drive shaft, a shutter moves into place covering the display wheels and reset fingers engage heart-shaped cams on the individual wheels to move them back to a zero position. In addition, a set of anti-topping fingers engages the wheels to prevent jamming. At the completion of reset, the display wheels will read all zeros, and the shutter will rise to the normal operating position. The clutch will engage the drive shaft to transfer the information from the next delivery. The totalizer wheels will be unaffected by this reset operation, thus displaying an accurate measure of the accumulated totals of many deliveries.

2.2 OPERATION

Operate and reset meter-register as follows:

1. to reset indicating wheels to zero, turn reset knob, on right side of register, clockwise.

CAUTION DO NOT TURN COUNTER CLOCKWISE

2. do not start delivery unless shutter is in full open position. If numerals on indicating wheels are not in full view, resetting operation has not been completed, in which case, turn reset knob clockwise untill shutter disappears and reset knob returns to its normal position.

3. MAINTENANCE

3.1 GENERAL

The meter-register is fully lubricated and properly adjusted at manufacture. However, periodic cleaning and lubrication are required. Judgement of the intervals at which the meterregister requires such service must necessarily be left to the individual user, due to varying conditions of service. Under normal conditions this will be at least once a year, or after each 2.5 million units of measure delivered, which ever comes first.

3.2 METER REGISTER REMOVAL

Remove the meter-register from the meter by removing the bolts holding the two together. Bolts are located at the bottom of the Meterregister.

3.3 DISASSEMBLY PRIOR TO CLEANING

Remove the meter-register from its housing as follows:

1. Remove the bolts securing the cover (if present) to the top of the housing. These bolts are hex head and are located at the four corners of the bottom of the housing. Remove the cover and lever.

2. Remove the three button-head bolts securing the meterregister to the housing. Remove the meter-register.

3. Remove the screws securing the gear plate to the bottom of the housing. Remove the gear plate.

3.4 CLEANING

CAUTION: DO NOT USE A WIRE BRUSH

1. Wipe bezel crystal with a clean lint-free rag.

2. Flush wheels with clean Savasol or equivalent solvent. Blow out surplus solvent with compressed air.

3. If the wheel faces are dirty, gently clean with a clean lintfree rag, dipped in solvent.

4. Clean the gears on the gear plate by flushing or with a brush dipped in solvent. Blow dry with compressed air.

5. Clean housing by dipping, flushing or brushing with solvent. Blow dry with compressed air.

4

3.5 INSPECTION

A periodic inspection of the entire meter-register, housing and gear plate is required to make sure that they function properly, parts are in place, and no binding or excessive side-to-side motion of shafts occurs. A check list on such procedures follows:

1. Check the following shafts for excessive side-to-side motion. Note: remove the meter-register from the housing before checking and shaft freedom.

a. wheel shaft b. anti-topping finger group shaft c. reset finger group shaft d. clutch group shaft e. pinion shaft.

2. Temporarily instal the gear plate and meter-register in the housing and check for proper engagement and freedom of movement of:

a. all gears on gear plate b. output bevel gear on gear plate with the bevel drive gear on drive shaft. c. 57 tooth gear on clutch assembly with gear on right wheel assembly. d. gear drive shaft, with gear train that operates tha totalizer, and gear connecting the drive

train to the totalizer.

3. Check spacing 00.010 to 0.020 inch (0,25 to 0,50 mm) of brake above the right hand wheel.

4. Rotate drive shaft by hand to see that unit operates freely and then reset, checking for proper reset and shutter action, adjust pointer after reset as required.

5. Check all screws, retaining rings and groove pins to see that they are tight and seated properly.

3.6 LUBRICATION

3.6.1 RECOMMENDED LUBRICANTS

NOTE: Anderol products are manufactured by Lehigh Chemicals, Nuoder Division, Tennoco-Chemicals, Inc. Chestestertown, Md. OIL Anderol L-401-D or equivalent with a temperature range of -65° to +300°F (-54° to +149 °C). GREASE Anderol L795 or equivalent with a temperature range of -65° to +300°F (-54° to +149 °C). NOTE: All lubricants used in the register must be of a type which remains fluid over the full temperature range to which the register will be subjected. Also, they should not oxidize or dry out leaving a gummy or perceptible residue.

Page 6: NoVK-258-GB-0711 nieuw logo Vierlinghstraat - vaf-technik.de · 2 1. INTRODUCTION This manual contains important information for the installer, the operator and for your maintenance

5

If the Anderol lubricant is not available, a substitute with equivalent properties may be used. To assist fieldmen in obtaining suitable lubricants for the meter-register and ticket printers, the following list showing equivalent lubricants has been prepared: OIL: AEROSHELL FLUID NO. 3 ARGEOYLE ARTIC OIL LIGHT REGENT SPINTEX OIL 60 CASTROL HYSPIN - 40 GREASE: AEROSHELL 14 ESSO BEACON - 325

3.6.2 POINTS TO LUBRICATE

OIL All points indicated as (oil) on figure l should be lubricated with oil as described above. This includes all shaftst studs, and bosses on which a moving part bears. GREASE Grease should be applied to all points indicated as (grease) on figure 1. NOTE: The oil and grease should be applied with a srnall brush to make certain that all areas will be properly lubricated. In this manner, the amount of lubricant being used will be controlled easier.

3.7 ASSEMBLY AFTER LUBRICATION

1. Install the gear plate on the bottom of the housing and secure with screws.

2. Install the meter-register in the housing and secure with three button-head bolts.

3. Install the cover (if present) and lever and secure with bolts.

3.8 METER REGISTER INSTALLATION

Mount the meter-register on the meter and secure the two with bolts removed in paragraph 3.2.

6. WARRANTY CONDITIONS 1. Without prejudice to the restrictions stated hereinafter, the contractor guarantees both the

soundness of the product delivered by him and the quality of the material used and/or delivered for it, insofar as this concerns faults in the product delivered which do not become apparent during inspection or transfer test, which the principal shall demonstrate to have arisen within 12 months from delivery in accordance with subarticle 1A exclusively or predominantly as a direct consequence of unsoundness of the construction used by the contractor or as a consequence of faulty finishing or the use of poor materials.

1A. The product shall be deemed to have been delivered when it is ready for inspection (if inspection at the premises of the contractor has been agreed) and otherwise when it is ready for shipment.

2. Articles 1 and 1a shall equally apply to faults which do not become apparent during inspection or transfer test which are caused exclusively or predominantly by unsound assembly/installation by the contractor. If assembly/installation is carried out by the contractor, the guarantee period intended in article 1 shall last 12 months from the day on which assembly/installation is completed by the contractor, with the understanding that in this case the guarantee period shall end not later than 18 months after delivery in accordance with the terms of subarticle 1A.

3. Defects covered by the guarantee intended under articles 1, 1a and 2 shall be remedied by the contractor by repair or replacement of the faulty component either on or off the premises of the contractor, or by shipment of a replacement component, this remaining at the discretion of the contractor. Subarticle 3A shall equally apply if repair or replacement takes place at the site where the product has been assembled/installed. All costs accruing above the single obligation described in the first sentence, such as are not restricted to shipment costs, travelling and accommodation costs or disassembly or assembly costs insofar as they are not covered by the agreement, shall be paid by the principal.

3A.If repair or replacement takes place at the site where the product has been assembled/installed, the principal shall ensure, at his own expense and risk, that:

a. the employees of the contractor shall be able to commence their work as soon as they have arrived at the erection site and continue to do so during normal working hours, and moreover, if the contractor deems it necessary, outside the normal working hours, with the proviso that the contractor informs the principal of this in good time;

b. suitable accommodation and/or all facilities required in accordance with government regulations, the agreement and common usage, shall be available for the employees of the contractor;

c. the access roads to the erection site shall be suitable for the transport required;

d. the allocated site shall be suitable for storage and assembly;

e. the necessary lockable storage sites for materials, tools and other goods shall be available;

f. the necessary and usual auxiliary workmen, auxiliary machines, auxiliary tools, materials and working materials (including process liquids, oils and greases, cleaning and other minor materials, gas, water, electricity, steam, compressed air, heating, lighting, etc.) and the measurement and testing equipment usual for in the business operations of the principal, shall be available at the correct place and at the disposal of the contractor at the correct time and without charge;

16

g. all necessary safety and precautionary measures shall have been taken and adhered to, and all measures shall have been taken and adhered to necessary to observe the applicable government regulations in the context of assembly/installation;

h. the products shipped shall be available at the correct site at the commencement of and during assembly.

4. Defects not covered by the guarantee are those which occur partially or wholly as a result of:

A. non-observance of the operation and maintenance instructions or other than foreseeable normal usage;

B. normal wear and tear;

C. assembly/installation by third parties, including the principal;

D. the application of any government regulation regarding the nature or quality of the material used;

E. materials or goods used in consultation with the principal;

F. materials or goods provided by the principal to the contractor for processing;

G. materials, goods, working methods and constructions insofar as are applied at the express instruction of the principal, and materials or goods supplied by or on behalf of the principal.

H. components obtained from third parties by the contractor insofar as that party has given no guarantee to the contractor.

5. If the principal fails to fulfil any obligation properly or on time ensuing from the agreement concluded between the principal and the contractor or any agreement connected to it, the contractor shall not be bound by any of these agreements to any guarantee regardless of how it is referred to. If, without previous written approval from the contractor, the principal commences disassembly, repair or other work on the product or allows it to be commenced, then every agreement with regard to guarantee shall be void

6. Claims regarding defects must be submitted in writing as quickly as possible and not later than 14 days after the discovery of such. All claims against the contractor regarding faults shall be void if this term is exceeded. Claims pertaining to the guarantee must be submitted within one year of the valid complaint on penalty of invalidity.
