PRINCIPAL’S CORNER CANNED FOOD DRIVE IN FULL SWING
Top 10 Ways to Sacrifice in Order to Collect or Buy More Cans (message to our students)
10 - Sacrifice your time doing extra chores for “can money” i.e. fold extra laundry, rake extra leaves
9 - Older kids - sacrifice your afternoon nap or your 2 episodes of Full House and instead go canning in your neighborhood - with mom and dad’s permission of course.
8 - Sacrifice your ice cream @ DQ this weekend. Instead buys some cans.
7 - Sacrifice that coke and bag of Skittles from the concession stand at your sister’s b-ball game.
6 - Sacrifice your snack from the cafe for a few weeks. Buy some cans instead.
5 - Sacrifice your Dominos Pizza this weekend. Instead have PB & J for dinner.
4 - Sell your left-over Halloween candy to your parents (because they are probably eating it anyway after you go to bed) and use that money to buy some cans.
3 - Sacrifice that new toy, that new pair of shoes, that new video game. Buy some cans instead.
2 - Sacrifice some of your own money to buy some cans. Reach into that piggy bank, your wallet, your stash of cash in your sock drawer, under your mattress, bur-ied in the backyard—wherever—and use some to buy some cans. Here’s an added bonus - ASK MOM AND DAD to MATCH YOUR DONATION! You donate $10, mom and dad donate an extra $10!
1 - Sacrifice your time. Go with your parents or grandparents to buy the cans at the grocery store. Carry the cans. Count the cans. Think about all the hungry people that will be fed because of your sacrifices!!!

GROWING IN MIND, HEART, AND SPIRIT TO BECOME LEADERS IN THE WORLD
November 6, 2015 NATIONAL YOUNG READERS WEEK Next week is National Young Readers Week sponsored by the Book IT! program. I have accepted the chal-
lenge to Read My Heart Out on Tuesday and will be reading throughout the day, all over the school. Maybe
our school will be chosen to receive 101 copies of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School!
During the week, parents can promote reading with One More Story, an online library of classic and contem-porary children’s illustrated books. Each day, a new book will be available for viewing via desktop or on iPhone and Android. Want a daily notification when each book is available? Subscribe to Bound Together for Parents, a monthly enewsletters for parents about children's literacy, BOOK IT! and more.
ST. BARNABAS BRANCH LIBRARY Continued thanks to our volunteer librarians who make it possible each week for our students to check out books from the IMCPL right here at school. They do a great job of promoting reading. READ, READ, READ!
ISTEP+ RESULTS TO BE RELEASED Results of the 2015 ISTEP+ test taken last March and May are set to be released within the next few days.
We were told that would be Friday but it appears the IDOE site will be down until Monday. Parent login in-
formation was distributed to students to take home and will be the only way to view the results when they
are released. We will not get copies of the results here at school until early December.
We ask parents to log-in to the Parent Network using the provided information. Your child’s scores should
indicate Pass+, Pass, or Did Not Pass for ELA and for Math. Parents will have one week to request a rescore
of their child’s test. All parents who would like their child’s test rescored should use the online format to
request a rescore. We are not able to do that here at school., but can provide help if needed.
After so much discussion of the test format, testing time, and delay in releasing results, I’m anxious to see
the results. I know our teachers and students worked hard. There will be questions about test results since
not all schools administered the same test questions on the Applied Skills portion of the test. The test was
divided into two forms when the length of the test became an issue.
Please let us know if you have difficulty accessing your child’s ISTEP+ results.
