The Beloved Spelling Bee is coming up!
Get ready to spell! Teachers have sent home word lists for 1st through
7th grade scholars to study. Round 1 of the Spelling Bee will be held in
classrooms 11/6/17. The winner will then move on to Round 2, the Finals,
on 11/17/17 in the Multipurpose Room. Parents of participants will be
invited. There will be two winners for the Finals, one for grades 1-5 and

cal Hudson County Bee. Then, they will have a chance at the Scripps Na-
tional Spelling Bee and winning $40,000! Happy Spelling!
Grades and Honor Roll
After careful review of last year's implementation of our new curriculum, we are adjusting the grading scale
and honor roll designation criteria.
The following will be used to determine scholar letter grades
A 92<
B 82-92
C 71-81
D 60-69
Honor Roll overall average (determined through school formula)
Magna 96<
Suma 92-96
Cum 85-91
In addition, Students who receive less than a “satisfactory” in a non- numerical graded subject area
will be ineligible for Honor Roll.
Honor Roll will be posted within two weeks report cards being issued.
Thanksgiving is a quintessentially American holiday celebrated each year over a long November weekend often with extended family traveling long distances to gather. Some families have heritages in America from the 18th century while oth-ers came here this year. At BelovED, our scholars were born in more than 20 countries outside of the USA, and this does not count the counties of birth of their parents. A family’s Thanksgiving traditions are influenced by its heritage and we would love to know how your family celebrates. What dish sits alongside the turkey (if one is even served)? What activities does the family engage in? Please share your traditions at [email protected], and in December’s newsletter we will offer a summary.

Thank you all who participated in the flapjack fundraiser Saturday, October 21, 2017
at the Hudson Mall. A good time was had by all! And a special thanks to BelovED
moms, Daleth Escoto and Meghan Halupka for all you do for the PTO and the school!
Homecoming – Spirit Week
Our spirit week was a big success! Thanks to Ms. Emily Marti, Ms. Joya Anderson and Ms. Vanessa Muquercia for coordinating the activities. Our scholars learned about their college namesakes and their mascots, showed great spirit during the pep rally for our Middle School athletes during our
prep rally and had fun doing so.

Red Ribbon Week
October was a busy and productive month here at BelovED culminating in a most rewarding
red ribbon week! During the week our scholars learned the importance of respecting them-
selves and others and the importance of living drug free. Thanks to Ms. Melissa Millad and
Mr. Michael Long for making it a success. And a special thanks to the family members of our
scholars who serve(d) in the military, as police officers, firefighters and other civil servants
who came to talk to our scholars about what they do.
Registration for Next Year
Registration for next year – 2018-19 is now open. If your BelovED scholar has a sibling who will be entering school next year, be sure to apply now. Under our sibling preference policy that sibling will not have to partic-
ipate in the lottery, but they do have to apply. To apply please do so on-line at belovedccs.org. To date we have received over 34 applications from siblings. If you have not submitted one for your scholar’s sibling,
please do so now.
Crayon Recycling Project
Beloved is entering the Hudson County Incinerator Authority’s 16th annual crayon recycling
contest. The contest begins on November 15th and runs through December 22nd. We would
like to encourage anyone who has old, broken or unwanted crayons to send them to school for
our drive. All crayons can be put into the clear plastic bin (marked crayon recycle) by our front
door or sent in with your scholar. Although the contest ends in December, we will continue col-
lecting crayons all year long.
The winning schools will have the crayons recycled into new crazy-colored crayons and re-
turned to the schools!
