SCIENCE

The chemistry classes promoted chemistry to the student body by wearing their element t-shirts on Mole Day during National Chemistry week!

This month, the chemistry classes visited the 3M labs for a site tour and exposure to what jobs are available for science students after college. The site tour was conducted by 3M employee and Sun Valley alumnus, Rob Romeo.

Croda, Inc. will be coming to each class and discussing what jobs are available at a specialty chemical company, and they will also demonstrate how to make one of their products and allow the students to help! TV STUDIO

Sun Valley was honored to have Channel 6 ABC of Philadelphia visit our school two times this month. The first time was to see Sun Valley 1994 Alumnus, Dave McKenzie. Dave is 6 ABC's assignment editor. He did a presentation for the TV studio/class students which was featured on the 12:00 news show! The 6 ABC crew was back later in the evening to do a short cover of the Sun Valley football game. "There's that Action News van again!" PSSA PREP

PSSA prep teachers administered the practice SAT tests for students. The testing results will be used to help direct individual instruction and group instruction in the PSSA Prep classes in order to prepare students for the SAT exams. CHORUS

The Choir, under the direction of Mr. David Reimschussel, performed the National Anthem before the West Chester Rustin football game. MATH

This month the Mathematics Department had an in-service on Mathematical Practices aligned with the Common Core High School Mathematics Standards by a professor from the University of Delaware. Our teachers worked on developing lessons which clearly utilized the 8 recommended practices and how to make their students more aware and comfortable with these Practices. WORLD HISTORY

Mr. Moore will be hosting an after-school ―Movie Matinee‖ for his Honors 10th Grade World History students on Wednesday, November 21st. The feature, Martin Luther, follows the information they learned during their studies of the Reformation.

Our day at State Championships began with a nice little breakfast provided by the band parents, loading the trucks and watching inspirational movie clips. A fire truck escort out of Aston provided by Green-Ridge Fire Company, complete with flashing lights, roaring sirens and hitting all the green lights, gave the kids a special Champion's send-off. The band rehearsed at Central Dauphin High School to keep the drive to a minimum between rehearsal and the big show. The final run through was breathtaking and exciting. The students were confident about what was about to come. A little pizza fueled the band before getting changed and heading to the stadium. After a 15 minute drive, we arrived at the stadium and immediately got to work, warming up in our separate sections, then to meet again for our final "run through" in the parking lot. This was the time for the musicians to play through the show while the color guard perfected their routine. Every section was performing at their best. All that was left was a short walk to the stadium gate. At the gate, the band huddled up, arm in arm, in a circle. Our pre-show "pep talk" morphed over the season into passing around a base-ball that was signed by each and everyone on our team, students and staff. Some students kissed it, some rubbed it on their head for luck, some whispered words of encouragement. After that the students took the field for competition. What an OUTSTANDING performance, filled with true emotions and energy that I had never seen from our group! Tears flowed from their faces and smiles were everywhere. They saved the best one for the end, and they knew it! Mr. Tim Pry Band Director

A busy November started off on the 6th as the JROTC Cadets celebrated the 237

th Birthday of the

United States Marine Corps at their annual Marine Corps Ball held at the Redwood Playhouse. This year the Cadets were honored to have Miss Edmiston as their guest of honor and as is tradition the honored guest received the first piece of birthday cake during the formal ceremony. A special part of the evening was the promotion ceremony where Cadets were rewarded for their accomplishments during the first semester of the school year. Veterans Day weekend saw the Cadets honoring those who served by firing a 21 gun salute at the annual Brookhaven Veteran’s Day ceremony, the morning of the10th followed in the afternoon with a honor guard at Monsignor Bonner HS. On the 12

th of

November, the Cadets participated in the annual Veteran’s Day parade in Media. Fifty Cadets took to the streets of Media to show their appreciation for the sacrifices made by all Veterans. The rest of November will be busy as the Cadets will march in the annual Brookhaven Holiday Parade and will play their annual MCJROTC Turkey Bowl. The big push for the Cadets in December will be with the local Marine Corps Reserve unit collecting toys for the annual Toys for Tots program – you can expect to see collection barrels throughout the school beginning after Thanksgiving.
