The texts chosen for this celebration urge us to live our faith in the face of persecution, earthquakes, and other catastrophes that may be coming to consume humankind. We cannot lose hope, however, because when that day comes, we believe that the sun of justice and peace will bring us to salvation. The narrative of the prophet Malachi is written for an exiled community, deprived of their country and temple. Furthermore, Luke the Evangelist addresses the early Christian community, which was persecuted and martyred. For us today, these readings urge us to live our faith, sharing the Lord's peace and mercy throughout our lives, since human life is finite and we are ultimately called to everlasting life with God. This week, it would be beneficial to reflect on this message in small groups, since many of our faithful are exposed to fear-inducing interpretations of this text that are only intended to manipulate, instead of inspiring hope. ...they will seize and persecute you… LK 21:12

From the Desk of Father Kurt In the Gospel this Sunday, Jesus tells the crowds what to expect before the end times. He said to them. “Nation will rise upon against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.” Does this sound familiar? It does if you have been paying attention to the news lately: Fires in California, hurricanes, floods and wars all over the world. It’s sometimes hard to imagine a crazier world than the one we are living in, and yet if we study history, times of the past were not so different from the one that we live in today.

The world will come to an end for us sooner or later, but that does not give us an excuse to stop working for a better world for ourselves and for future generations. The signs of the times are not to scare us, but to encourage us to do something to make the times better. Yes, we can make a difference in our world, by looking at the individual in the mirror, and making the change. We will change our world one man and woman at a time.

Love in Christ, Father Kurt Farrell

Welcome: This weekend we welcome Josiah Pierre

and Carmello Alexandar Lorenzi, twin sons of Ceasre Jose Lorenzi and Stephanie Guzman into the Catholic faith through the sacrament of baptism. We celebrate the blessing of these beautiful eternal souls and may we help them grow to be the Saints the Lord has called them to become.

St. Theodore parishioners are encouraged to consider how they can help live out St. Theodore’s mission to actively participate in the life of Jesus. As we are all called to evangelize, your participation as a parish volunteer to serve helps us achieve this goal. If you were unable to attend Mass this weekend or needed time to consider how you could serve, you can still pick up a volunteer card located at any of the main church entrances. Just fill out a card and either drop it off at the parish office or in the collection basket. Thank you.
