Eaton‘s communication-enab-led switchgear and protective devices allow you to access operating and diagnostics data directly from the field. Maximum availability for manufacturing

Thanks to the mounting system design, module replacements and additions to the sys-tem require a minimum downtime. The with-drawable units and removable compartments enable you to change the module function units safely whilst the system is still ener-gized, and this is also possible when adapting the system to new requirements.

Flexible Solutions for Power

Distribution and Motor Control

The power distribution systems offer flexible solutions for all your requirements up to 6300 A. Function units that can be fitted to individual requirements provide the basis for creating flexible solutions. The individual sections can be combined to your specifications as required:

• Feeders and outgoers – MODAN® P• Withdrawable units – MODAN® W• Removable compartments – MODAN® R• Fuse-switch units – MODAN® R• and for individual configurations MODAN® G

The sections are available with protection to IP 30/31 or IP 54. You can choose between cable and busbar trunking connection systems which can be connected from the top or bottom. They are naturally available for all network types. Parallel busbar routing without a lateral overlap allows the exchange of individual sections in the assembly. Your system can be expanded easily at any time. Two independent main busbar systems offer a wide range of different circuit options.

Damage you can guard against

Even with the highest level of production quality, the testing of switchgear assemblies and switching devices and a fully developed system technology, the occurrence of arc faults in low-voltage power distribution systems can never be fully prevented. Arc faults occur if the insulation between the conductors or between the conductors and earth drops to an impermissible level. Frequent sources of danger include:• handling and operating errors • damage to the insulation • formation of bridges between

conductor paths due to small parts or tools that have been forgotten

• contamination or animals• later increase of power demand

without adapting the systemThe resulting damage can be devastating. In between 10 and 20 milliseconds, a tem-perature of up to 20,000 °C can develop in the core of the arc fault, which simultane-ously creates an explosive pressure that often causes the switchboard itself to explode.

Any person in the vicinity is exposed to considerable danger, and the repair of the power distribution system involves a long period of downtime.

ARCON® for a rapid and extremely

reliable response

Fibre optic light sensors detect the light emitted by the arc fault. The arc fault current is measured by using a current transformer. The evaluation unit registers both values at the same time, and if necessary, activates two switch elements simultaneously. The quenching device and the upstream circuit-breaker that is connected in parallel the quenching unit uses it pyrotechnically driven gas actuator to initiate a bolted short-circuit. This quenches the arc fault in less than 2 ms from its arising. The system is also disconnected via the circuit-breaker from the supply. After a brief inspection, rectification of the cause of arcing, exchange the quenching device and a final insulation test, your system is again ready for operation.
