Curry Sets Records in Georgia Tech Loss • Ronald Curry, the nation's 21st-ranked passer, established several school records

in the Tar Heels' 42-28 loss to Georgia Tech on Oct. 2. The Hampton, Va., native com-pleted 17 of 31 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 10 carriesfor 12 yards and finished the game with 400 total yards of offense. In the process heset the following school records:

Kenan Stadium. It also equaled the longest touchdown pass by any player in KenanStadium (accomplished three times).

Looking at those numbers further, Curry's game was even more impressive whenyou consider the following.

• Curry's 388 yards passing are the third-highest single-game total in UNC historybehind Chris Keldorf (415 vs. TCU, 1997) and Mark Maye (406 vs. Georgia Tech,1987) and the third most by anyone at Kenan Stadium behind Duke's Dave Brown in1989 and Maryland's Scott Milanovich in 1993.

• Curry's pass efficiency rating of 137.91 ranks 21st in the country and would be thefourth-highest single-season mark in UNC history if the season ended today. In 1974Chris Kupec set the pass efficiency school record with a 174.3 rating. Jason Stanicek issecond with a rating of 145.8 in 1993 and Mark Maye is third at 141.3 in 1986.

Bailey Rebounds From Hamstring Injury • Kory Bailey, a junior wideout from Durham, N.C., caught the longest touchdown

pass by a Tar Heel in Kenan Stadium history with a 78-yard grab against Georgia Techon Sept. 30. After catching the ball around the 10-yard line, Bailey pulled his right ham-string, but still was able to make it to the end zone for the score. He did not play therest of the game and was thought to be sidelined for the NC State game. However,Bailey's recovery was quicker than expected. Although he did not start against theWolfpack, Bailey came off the bench to lead the Tar Heels with three catches for 47yards, including a 21-yard catch on fourth down which kept alive a touchdown drive.

• The Tar Heels leading receiver with 21 catches, Bailey has 363 yards receiving, isaveraging 17.3 yards per catch and has scored two touchdowns. Against Marshall, hemade six receptions for a career-high 101 yards. It was the first 100-yard receivinggame of his career. That reception came on a 3rd-and-10 play and gave UNC a 13-9 advan-tage.

Bailey Moves Up The Charts • Wide Receiver Kory Bailey is tied with Randy Marriott for 12th all-time at Carolina

with 84 receptions. Mark Smith (1980-83) is 11th and Jimmy Jerome (1972-74) is 10thwith 93. Bailey is averaging 17.3 yards per reception this season. He came into theyear with an average of 12.4 yards over his first two seasons.

Boz is Back - On Pace for UNC Record • All summer quarterback Ronald Curry raved about the progress receiver Bosley

Allen was making returning from a serious knee injury he suffered in 1998. TheBradenton, Fla., native has in fact proven to be one of the top big-play threats in theACC. Allen leads the Tar Heels in all-purpose yards with 603, an average of 100.5 pergame.

• In fact, Allen is on pace to set the UNC single-season record for highest averagegain per reception (minimum of 25 receptions).

• Allen, who is averaging 21.6 yards per catch, is currently ahead of the record setby Bucky Brooks of 20.6 yards per reception (25 for 514 yards).

• Allen has been the target of three of Carolina's longest pass plays this season. Hecaught a 60-yard touchdown pass at Wake Forest, a 54-yard pass vs. Georgia Techand a 51-yard pass at Wake Forest. He has made six catches of at least 24-yards thisseason, including a 49-yard touchdown catch that proved to be the winning margin inCarolina's 20-15 win over Marshall.

• He is third on the team with 13 catches, but tops the team by averaging 22.9 yardsper catch.

• Allen is 10th in the country in punt returns (15.5 ypg).

Wake Forest on Sept. 9. He also returned seven punts for 153 yards. That is 68 yardsmore than the Tar Heels had on punt returns in all 11 games last season. What makesAllen's performance even more remarkable is the fact he missed the entire 1999 sea-son while rehabilitating a devastating knee injury. He tore all the anterior, posterior andlateral ligaments plus blood vessels and nerves in his left knee on a kickoff returnagainst NC State on November 28, 1998. Carolina held freshmanPhilip Rivers to 13 completionsfor 202 yards and sacked himfive times, but Robinson andJackson combined for 204 rush-ing yards. The Tar Heels alsoheld State receiver KorenRobinson to just two recep-tions.

Freshman Brandon Russellled the Tar Heels with 96 rush-ing yards on 28 attempts, bothseason highs. Russell scored ona 2-yard run in the first quar-ter.

Curry led Carolina on an 11-play, 84-yard drive to get backinto the game. He scrambledfor 19 yards and a first downon a 3rd-and-16 play deep inUNC territory, hit Kory Baileyfor 21 yards on 4th-and-5 laterin the drive and slashedthrough the left side of theWolfpack defense for a touch-down.

A sack by Julius Peppersforced a Wolfpack punt thatthe Tar Heels converted into a33-yard field goal by Jeff Reedjust before the half to narrowthe deficit to 24-17.

Curry found Alge Crumplerfor 33 yards to start the thirdquarter as Carolina moved to
