Never in my wildest dreams did I envision launching a brand new venture as part

of my business during the most turbulent and ever changing climates where society, the NHS, Government, the Royal Family are all being tested. The sheer fact that this issue ‘has made it’ is testament to Norfolk’s incredibly creative, forward thinking and wonderful wedding creatives who all have one major quality in common – the ability to share love. Love for their brides and grooms who are having to cancel and postpone their big days, love for their colleagues, love for our amazing key workers and NHS staff, love for their business and the industry and their love to share their usually buzzing business in this brand new magazine.

This issue is not only special being that it’s issue 1, but also because it celebrates love during a time of uncertainty and huge change and challenges.

CHEERS TO LOVE

Your wedding day is likely to be the most photographed day of your life so here are Emma’s top 5 tips for brides.

1 Stay hydrated, drinking plenty of water not only helps to clear toxins out of your body that cause blemishes, but it

also prevents dehydration which can lead to older looking skin.

2 Get into a good skincare routine habit, your skin will need time and a consistent routine to give it the

nourishment it needs to look its best. This is why a daily skin care routine is so important.

3 Eating healthy will improve your overall health and the health of your skin. A diet full of fruits, vegetables, whole

grains and proteins will have your skin looking its absolute best for your big day.

4 Exfoliate your skin once a week to buff away the dead skin cells to leave your face feeling soft, smooth

and glowing.

5 When going for your make-up trial, try and wear a top that is a similar shade to your wedding dress. Whites can

be draining, which means the make-up tones may need to change to compensate this.

Love and health are core basics for human existence so no matter whether you’re planning an extravagant wedding or a low key affair, we hope this magazine gives you much needed inspiration and a small time out from the world we’re currently living in.

Take care of yourselves, look after your neighbours, check in with your family and love each other dearly.

M U S T H A V E SLocal fare and a supermarket sweep –“We hired a pizza van for our festival theme. Great value and tasted delicious. We didn’t want anything fancy or flash, it’s just not us. In the evening we had picnic platters delivered by a supermarket, cost effective and perfect for our relaxed outdoor festival feel. Everyone loved that. Plus some of our guests also brought cakes they’d made which was amazing.”

Denim jacket love – Carrie bought her bridesmaids each a 2nd hand denim jacket from Depop and ironed on their names on the back as a present.

Photographer –“We'd seen Jeremy working at a friends wedding. He was calm, relaxed, chilled and his photographs were beautiful without all the posing. We knew he was the perfect fit for our day and we were both so pleased to find out he was available on our date.”

“It was on the mannequin and my sister pointed it out when we walked in. At first I tried on a few formal fitting dresses but they weren’t very ‘me’. The Lennon dress was a curveball, I really wasn’t sure what I wanted and I didn’t think I’d find my dress in Norwich, let alone in the first shop I went in. But as soon as I put it on my mum, nan and sister said it was THE ONE. The boho feel was perfect for the way I envisaged the day.”

Y ou’ve chosen your date and venue, said yes to the dress and it's now time to put all those finishing touches into

place - so where to start? Let the seasons give you all the answers, especially when it comes to those all-important flower choices.

I always advise my brides to choose flowers and foliage that are heavily in season at the time of their wedding. This ensures the best blooms possible. Ordering flowers out of their natural season (even if they are available) can lead to you paying a lot more for poor quality flowers, and quality is one thing that should never be compromised.

The other reason for taking choices from what the seasons give you means your flowers will always reflect their surroundings perfectly. Nothing looks nicer than a summer bouquet overflowing with roses, stocks and ammi in an English country garden. Or a beautiful autumnal bouquet full of burnt oranges & reds against a rustic barn setting surrounded by golden fallen leaves.

Top Tip for PeoniesPeonies are a firm favourite amongst many brides, and who could blame them, they are totally stunning. These beauties have their own mini season though and if it’s a flower you just can’t do without? You are going to need to book your wedding in the late spring/early summer months to avoid disappointment.

So, there we have it, happy wedding flower planning, & let the seasons guide your way.

What inspired you to start The Bubble Crew?I love entertaining, meeting people and of course bubbly; but it all started when I was helping my best friend with planning her wedding. We LOVED the idea of a prosecco van and had seen a few online, however there wasn’t one in East Anglia. Within 6 months we acquired our first prosecco van. We wanted to create a friendly, affordable and unique way to serve bubbly at events.

Tell us something interesting about you.I worked on cruise ships for 10 years before starting Bubble Crew in 2018, I’ve travelled to 52 countries and counting.

Where’s your favourite Norfolk hangout?Oh my - so many things. I am obsessed with Cafe No. 33’s Eggs Benedict in Norwich. We also have a Border Collie puppy called Reggie who I love taking for walks – he is my favourite.

What do you serve the most of?Definitely prosecco of course! The most common request is prosecco and Peroni. Keeping in with the Italian van.

What’s your favourite request been so far?The great thing about prosecco is that it can be personalised in so many ways. I love serving it with fluffy candy floss and making gorgeous cocktails. We just attended a wedding where the prosecco was served alongside pornstar martini and the groom’s favourite Craft Beer.

How far do you travel for weddings? We typically cover Norfolk & Suffolk however we have travelled further afield before. If we can get there we will.

Is it just reception drinks you offer? We can provide a full bar or just reception drinks. We know that everyone has a vision of their dream bar and we work hard to make that a reality. We have a full stand alone wooden bar that we will bring along if required, and serve everything needed to keep guests entertained. No two events have ever been the same and we love it.

Stationerywith Sam Wood Wedding Stationery

There are so many routes you could take when styling your bespoke stationery. Here are some tips to get started:

Style and DesignThe core style and design of your stationery helps to set your wedding apart.

Consider the theme of your wedding and the colours that you will use, taking inspiration from areas of your wedding such as bridesmaid dresses and flowers, the season you’re getting married in and the style of venue you’ve chosen.

Fonts, colours and illustrations can be tailored to pull all your intricate ideas together to really help your wedding pop.

Card and Print finishesThe type of card that you chose, and the printing or finishing process can make a big difference to the look and feel of your stationery.

A thick textured card can bring a nice rustic feel, whereas a silk finish could give that touch of luxury. If you’re going more boho a recycled card could work wonderfully and likewise if your wedding is very modern how about using a vellum paper.Top tip: Consider printing techniques such as laser cutting to introduce unique shapes, embossing or debossing adding texture to words, or luxury foiling which can bring a beautiful metallic finish.

Finishing touchesHow about adding something extra to make your stationery really stand out, such as gathering multiple items with ribbon or twine. To give a sense of excitement whilst opening an invitation you could use a wax seal. Coloured envelopes and tassels also really help your invites stand out. If you’re wondering how to create place names which WOW think about alternative textures – leaves, acrylics, clay, vellum, linen are all fabulous ideas.

29How do celebrants work with other suppliers? We do a lot of weddings so we know a lot of people and we know who we trust and would recommend. An experienced celebrant will have a little black book overflowing with suppliers.

How much does it cost? You can get a celebrant for under £400 but most charge much more than that. You’d be wise to speak to a few celebrants before you choose. Do your research and trust your instincts. Does this person ‘get’ you? Do you feel comfortable with them? Like most things in life – the cheapest is not always the best.

28

So what is a wedding celebrant anyway? Even my mum asks me that! Wedding celebrants are practical friendly people with training and expertise in writing and delivering memorable ceremonies – ones that have impact, are fully personalised and reflect who the couple are.

How do I find a celebrant?Ask your friend Google – use key words like Humanist, celebrant, wedding celebrant near me, wedding celebrant Norfolk, or if you want a Humanist celebrant go to www.humanist.org.uk

What do you mean ‘a personalised ceremony’?A good celebrant will meet with you a number of times, get to know you, find out about your life, what’s important to you, who is important to you. They might speak with your friends and family too, before writing your ceremony so that it reflects who you really are.

What’s different about a celebrant led ceremony? In a nutshell it can be whatever you want it to be. Funny or serious, indoors, outdoors, on a beach, in a field. It can contain readings and music of your choice and special elements that symbolise unity and commitment such as handfasting.

Are celebrant led ceremonies legal? No. Not at the moment, although we are waiting for legislation to bring us on a par with Scotland, Northern Ireland, Guernsey and Jersey where Humanist celebrants can perform legal marriages.

Shapes & SilhouettesSearching for THE ONE?Then take a read of Le Jour Bridal’s top tips on dress shapes.

B A T E A U N E C K L I N E This wider neckline passes just below the collarbone and can balance a fuller midsection by drawing the eye out to your shoulders.

S H E A T H A sheath dress is one which follows your natural body shape. This means that it doesn’t have any extra fabric to create volume, however, it softly flares out a little towards the hem. This shape is generally more comfortable and easier to move around in and suits brides with an apple body shape.

F I T & F L A R E / M E R M A I D A mermaid or ‘fit-and-flare’ wedding dress is one which is extremely fitted and then flares out at the knees. This shape is often exaggerated with thick, flowing fabric cascading from the knees and expanding outwards. This style really shows a bride’s curves and looks amazing on ladies with a bit of junk in the trunk.

A - L I N E A-line dresses flare out from the hips and gradually widen towards the hem, essentially creating a silhouette which resembles the letter A. A-line suits brides with larger hips and small waist and torso. This is a style that is flattering on most people.

T R U M P E T A trumpet shaped wedding dress is fitted from the bust to the mid-thigh, with the skirt flaring outwards from the mid-thigh. This style suits hourglass body shapes.

Le Jour Bridal Studio truly believes that the experience of choosing the perfect wedding dress should also be a most wonderful and joyous experience. The fully air conditioned studio has been created to feel luxurious and offers an extremely relaxed environment for you and your entourage to fulfil your childhood dreams. A beautiful bridal stage and coffee bar offering light refreshments provides the little extras to make your experience extra special.

V - N E C K Everybody can look great in a V-neck. The key to wearing this classic, versatile neckline is to choose the depth of the V that best fits your bust size. Small busts should choose a less dramatic plunge while larger busts should reach for a deeper V to elongate and balance their silhouette.

B A L L G O W N A ball gown wedding dress features a full bell-shape skirt and fitted bodice. This dress shape is often achieved using multiple layers of tulle and fabric to create the fullness of the skirt. This is a truly traditional style which is loved by Mums and brides that want the princess look.

Triangle ArchesHowever big or small, triangle arches are pretty cool. They could be tied in with various parts of your big day…over an entrance, for your table plan, a backdrop for your ceremony or cake, as a photo backdrop – the list is endless.

For a huge array of gorgeous arches and backdrops, check out: bellesandbeausweddingstyling.co.uk

Thing’s MLW is loving…On the hunt for something totally fresh and inspiring for your 2020 big day? Here are some ideas you just can’t go without…

LightingAnd not just any old lighting. Lighting initially sounds more functional than funky – but if your lighting is planned and designed to suit your wedding style and venue it can make THE MOST dramatic effect (especially for your photos). We are totally swooning over industrial lighting this year – think big, eye-catching, less fairy lights-more large bulbs of all different shapes and sizes.

Check out quirkevents.co.uk for all your lighting needs.

Grazing TablesThese are ideal for relaxed, less formal weddings and are also a great option if you’re looking to keep to budget. They look incredible and guests will just love dipping in throughout the evening. Most Norfolk caterers are now able to offer luxe looking grazing tables.

Check out the lovely trioscatering.co.uk or funnellskitchen.co.uk

Edible Flowers These are on point. Whether they’re in cocktails, frozen in ice-cubes, used for tasty sweet treats, delicately placed on your cake – there are so many options for these beauties and they’re perfect for any wedding – large or small.

For pretty cocktails and bar packages, check out: smokeandwildwood.co.uk

Wedding IllustrationsEver thought about getting some hand drawn illustrations from your big day? A wonderful extra and so on point. Arguably just as important as your photographer if you love art and love the idea of adorning your walls forever more with artwork from your big day.

We just LOVE owenmathers.co.uk

Earthy FavoursGift a gift which will just keep giving … that’s what they say right?! Succulents are the perfect thank you gift. They are sustainable, they emit oxygen 24 hours a day, super low maintenance and they work as a favour alongside any wedding theme – and besides, who doesn’t love a succulent?

1 Vibrant colours. Move over tradition, an injection colour is one

of the hottest trends of 2020/2021.

2 Creative lighting techniques. Most photographers will agree,

lighting is everything.

3 A touch of magic. Personalisation created by the introduction

of items such as props, sparklers, confetti/glitter cannons & photoshop. It’s about expressing yourselves as a couple and you are limited only by your imagination.

Getting creative with your Wedding Day photos

Our main recommendations: Do your research and stay true to yourself. Your style, your personality plus a great supporting team, a clear cut plan, and a brilliant photographer: together you will create images that you will adore forever.

Y our photographer is one of the most important investments

of your upcoming wedding. Your photographer is going to capture your memories for years to come and tell your unique love story of how your special day unfolded.

Interested in creating beautiful style and design lead shots like the ones readily available on platforms like Pinterest and Instagram? Then you need to begin researching photographers who specialise in editorial, creative and portraiture weddings.

Editorial is a style of photography with an edge, used to illustrate a story or theme visually without words. Like creative photography, it can be achieved through creative lighting, poses, makeup, locations and props.

When communicating with your photographer consistency of your theme and communication of what you are trying to achieve is key. Communicate what you like (and don’t like) and collect and send imagery to reinforce this, so that everyone is on the same page.

Top tip: Make sure to pre-draft an on the day list of shots you would like to complete.

Additionally in the run up to the day reach out to your suppliers to see if they can support you. Speak to your wedding planner about locations in and around your venue and current wedding photography trends. Or alternatively how to create tried and tested timeless looks that will weather well, as well as existing images already taken at your venue.

Consult with your stylist about key props and if they have any recommendations on ‘set building’ (an area created at your venue unique only to your day) and backdrops.

Your florist will know what photographs well and what does not and if you have hired a lighting technician, they will be able to create specific lighting effects and key focal areas

5 Ways To Celebrate Your Pre Coronavirus Once-Wedding-Date

And remember…your big day will come and it will be all the more special.

Create a virtual Zoom party – it’s pretty straight forward to set up and you can send your guests a link to your party. Ask them to join you at a set time – even set them a dress code. Whack on some tunes from your DJ set, grab a bottle of bubbles and chat, laugh and create memories. They may not be the same memories you were supposed to have but they can be saved for when you finally get to say ‘I do’.

Order in a takeaway from your wedding caterers if they are local to you – perhaps even something off your original menu.

Play out your wedding day at home – pop your favourite outfits on, write some vows, pop open your favourite bottle of bubbly and dance to your favourite songs.

Decorate your home with some gorgeous blooms from your florist to put a smile on your face.

This article has been written during lockdown – so if your wedding falls outside of lockdown then how about visiting the church you supposed to be getting wed at, plan a day with family and friends, revisit a special place of yours, go on a weekend break – the list is endless.
