From 1/4 inch tubing to 20 feet penstocksFLEXIM’s non-intrusive ultrasonic tech-nology handles an unmatched range of applications. FLUXUS® offers accurate and reliable measurements from the smallest pipes (e.g. 1/4 inch tubing in paint finishing systems) up to very large pen-stocks (e.g. flow measure-ments in hydroelectric plants).

For virtually every liquid and pipe materialMeasurement is possible on just about every liquid medium and pipe material, regardless of sonic conductivity. Steel, iron or plastic pipes; sludge, sand, acids or tar: FLUXUS® is up to the task!

Up to 750 ° F and beyond

Standard transducers may be used for media temperatures up to 265 ° F, the temperature range of the high temp. versions extends this up to 390 ° F. The patented WaveInjector® system further extends the measurement range of FLEXIM’s standard transducers from cryogenic temperatures as low as -300 ° F up to 750 ° F and beyond.

The advantages of the non-intrusive measurement are obvious: since the ultrasonic transducers are simply attached to the outside of the pipe, the measuring equipment is not subject to wear and tear by the media and does not cause pressure loss.

Measurements at maximum operating pressures can be carried out easily with no additional costs. No pipe work is required when setting up the measu-ring point and, as a result, the operation is not interrupted.

100% plant availability p Simple attachment of the PermaLok

transducer system on the outside of the pipe

p Installation is possible during normal ongoing operation without process downtime

“Plug & Play” calibrated transducersEach pair of transducers undergoes a rigorous calibration at the factory and is shipped with NIST traceable calibration documentation. All calibrati-on data (including the transducer identification and parameters) is stored in a transducer-resident non-volatile memory. It is automatically transferred to the transmitter upon connection. Consequently, programming errors are eliminated and there is never a need for zero adjustment or calibration.

Guaranteed to be user friendlyNo elaborate instructions are required to use FLUXUS®‘s intuitively structured menus. Pipe and material parameters are easily found in the internal liquid media and pipe materials database. Measurement is activated with just a few key strokes. Our explosion proof instruments can be operated without ha-ving to open the housing and without requiring any additional programming devices.

A “Straight-Shot” from the pipe to the PCFluxDiag connects FLUXUS® to any PC. This software package with a graphi-cal user interface takes care of the data exchange between the transmitter and the computer. With FluxDiag, you can readily transfer your measurement data from the flowmeter to a PC, analyze and visualize the measuring results and manage the data files directly or easily export them to an external data manage-ment program for analysis.

General Technical Data

Measuring principle: Transit time difference correlation principle

Quantities of measurement: Volume flow, mass flow, flow velocity, thermal energy flow (when temperature inputs are installed)

Flow velocity: 0.03 to 82 ft/s

Repeatability: 0.15% of reading ± 0.03 ft/s

Calibrated transducer accuracy:- with 5 point wet flow calibration (NIST traceable): - with field calibration**:

± 1 % of reading ± 0.03 ft/s± 0.5 % of reading ± 0.03 ft/s

Gaseous and solid content: < 10 %

Measuring principleThe Transit Time Difference Correlation Principle makes use of the fact that the time-of-flight of an ultrasonic signal is affected by the flow velocity of the carrier medium. Like a swimmer working his way across a flowing river, an ul-trasonic signal travels slower upstream than downstream. Our instruments work according to this transit-time prin-ciple: an ultrasonic pulse is sent downstream through the medium, another pulse is sent upstream. By measuring the transit time difference, the average flow velocity can be determined. The volume flow can then be calculated out of the flow velocity and the pipe’s dimensional parameters. The acoustic measuring method works without inertia and is independent of the flow direction. As a result, FLUXUS® measures the flow bidirectionally with excellent measurement rangeability.

The Transducer System

“Fit for the Purpose“ ConstructionAll FLEXIM clamp-on transducers are watertight and suitable for use in harsh industrial environments. The robust stainless steel construction and the rugged integrated stainless steel cables guarantee reliable measurement results over long periods of extensive use. Almost all transducer types are available for use in hazardous areas and IP68 / NEMA 6P submersible applications.

Robust transducer mounting fixturesFor permanent installation in industrial environments, three specific mounting options are available. All are construc-ted out of stainless steel and are especi-ally corrosion resistant. The transducer distance can be set easily and precisely. Maintenance requirements are elimina-ted due to permanent contact to the pipe wall with coupling pads. Even in the event of strong temperature fluctuations, a continuous, stable contact pressure between the transducers and the pipe is ensured, allowing for optimal signal transmission through the pipe wall.

PermaStrap: Direct Strap mounting affords the most economical mounting solution. Used with the coupling pads the simple strap band is an effective mounting solution.PermaRail Track: Designed to keep a constant pressure of the transducer on the pipe. Good selection for a range of applications like pipes with tempera-ture fluctuations, and high vibrations.PermaLok Track: Optimum protection for harsh environments. The rugged Stainless Steel enclosure fully gaske-ted protects the transducer from water, dirt and harsh elements that can create a need for maintenance.FLEXIM also offers a completely metal -free transducer and mounting fixture solution for the semiconductor industry measuring flow rates within flexible tu-bes in clean room environments.

Unmatched in performance, FLEXIM‘s portable flow meters are the ideal tool for support in service and maintenance activities for the control and check of existing meters, their temporary replacement, or at measurement points not co-vered by permanent meters. The wide pipe diameter ran-ge of each transducer type is one of their greatest assets: two pairs of transducers sufficiently cover the most common pipe diameter ranges.

In addition, the optional thermal energy measurement capability makes it possible to carry out a complete analysis of thermal energy usage in any facility.

With their sturdy and rugged design, they are the measu-rement system of choice in harsh environment including hazardous areas.
