Kim Jong Un, First Secretary of the Workers'Party of Korea, sent a message of congratulations tothe participants in the Youth Day celebration con-ference and other young people across the countryon August 27.

The editorial board of The Pyongyang Times car-ries the excerpts from the message:

August 28 is Youth Day, the revolutionary holidayof the young people of Korea.

From the remote front line, I extend warm congrat-ulations and militant greetings to all the participantsin the Youth Day Celebration Conference and otheryoung men and women across the country, who aregreeting Youth Day in the first year of the new centu-ry of the Juche era with a feeling of boundless jubila-tion and excitement.

The current events held in celebration of YouthDay are a grand political festival that demonstratesthe patriotic loyalty and stout mettle of our youngpeople, who are adding lustre to the proud history andtradition of the youth movement of Korea which haswon victory after victory on the strength of the ideaof our Workers' Party of Korea of giving prominenceto young people and are advancing straight forwardtowards final victory under the Party's leadership.

Our Youth Day is the eternal holiday of the Koreanyoung people, which was instituted and exalted bythe great ‡ and ·.

In the history of our country spanning 5 000 years, there have always been young people and some ofthem earned fame; but never has there been an era ofworthwhile youth like today, when all young men andwomen, cherishing the high honour of being youthvanguard of the Party, perform feats for their countryand fellow people.

Today our motherland has started a historic marchfor final victory in the building of a thriving country.

Our Party expects that all young people would givefuller play to the valour, sense of unity and fightingpower of the Korean youth in national defence andthe current campaign for building of a thriving coun-try as befits the indomitable youth vanguard whogrew up in the embrace of the great ‡ and·, by inheriting the heroic fighting spiritof their revolutionary forerunners and seniors.

If hot-blooded young people march forward in elat-ed spirits blowing bugles and beating drums, thewhole nation will become ebullient, the hot wind ofleap forward will sweep across the country and theprosperous morrow will be brought closer.

Our young people must defend their socialist coun-try unto death by inheriting the heroic fighting spiritof the defenders of the country in the 1950s.

The service personnel of the People's Army mustload the powerful arms of the mighty revolutionaryPaektusan army with surging hatred for the enemyand set the sights on the objects of strike; when adecisive battle has to be fought, they must becomefierce tigers in the sacred war for national reunifica-tion and perform proud exploits.

If the enemy recklessly blows war clouds over us,young men and women across the country must takearms in their hands in place of hammers, sickles orpens, and turn out for an all-people war, as thedefenders of the country in the 1950s did, to annihi-late the aggressors at one stroke and staunchly defendtheir streets, villages and schools.

Burning their hearts with the will to annihilate theenemy, our brave young people should dynamicallymake breakthroughs for advance at all the sites ofbuilding a thriving country.

"We will go through fire and water in response tothe Party's call!"—this is the patriotic cry emanatingfrom the hearts of the millions of young people.

By making fresh miracles and innovations in diffi-cult and challenging sectors of the building of a thriv-ing country, young people should become heroes whoexalt the brilliance of their country and their era.

All young people, regarding their workplaces aspositions for attack, should make the flames ofHamnam blaze higher and wage a vigorous campaignfor increased production with the traits and mettle ofthe Korean youth, who like making a revolution andwho love working, so as to do a large share in fulfill-ing the national economic plan.

It is our young people who ought to stand in thevanguard of the effort to push back the frontiers ofscience and technology for the industrial revolutionin the new century.

Young people should hold aloft the slogan "Let us

open up a shortcut to final victory by breakingthrough the cutting edge!" and briskly wage a brainswarfare, a technological warfare, with a global visionand self-respect due to a great nation, so as to becomethe pioneers and champions of cutting-edge scienceand technology and preeminent talented people.

They should become excellent young people of theSongun era who love our own ways and things, arepossessed of beautiful and ennobling moral qualities, and strive hard to do good things more for the benefitof society and the collective.

    Will to destroy enemyruns high

"Counter provocations with animmediate counter offensive, andan aggressive war with a war ofjustice for the country’s reunifi-cation!" said supreme leader Kim Jong Un in his speech at thebanquet given on August 25 forcelebrating the 52nd anniversary ofthe start of Songun revolutionaryleadership by Chairman·.

His words greatly excited serv-ice personnel and people in thecountry.

His statement fully representshis faith and will to achieve thecountry's reunification, the utmostdesire of the Korean nation.

To respond to a war of aggressionwith a great war for national reunifi-cation is the requirement of historyand the times and a righteous deci-sion to remove the root cause of warthat poses menace to peace.

Not peace, but ceasefire has beenpersisting on the Korean peninsula.

Behind the scene of the ceasefirethe US has adopted military inva-

sion as the main point of its policytowards the DPRK and perpetratedacts of military provocation inces-santly.

It brought the situation on thepeninsula to the brink of war by dis-patching armed spy ship Puebloand large reconnaissance plane EC-121 into the country in the 1960sand engineering shocking incidentsof provocation at Panmunjom in the1970s and 1980s.

In the 1990s it conducted theinternational pressure campaignsunder the pretext of nuclear issueand in the 2000s it has set theDPRK as a target of preemptivenuclear strike and staged nuclearwar exercises annually in andaround south Korea.

It instigated the south Koreanpuppets to trigger an armed clashin the West Sea and theYonphyong Island artillery firingand orchestrated such anti-DPRKplot as Cheonan warship sinking.

It egged them on to slander thesupreme dignity of the DPRK. Not

content with this, it did not hesitateto take an active part in the recent-ly disclosed grave terror scheme todestroy the statues of the greatleaders.

The vicious acts of the US andsouth Korean puppets have made theservice personnel and people in theDPRK harden their resolve to sweepaway the provocateurs mercilessly.

Peace can neither be achieved nordefended without eradicating theroot cause of aggression and war.

The Korean People's Army isnow fully ready and young peopleand students are volunteering tojoin or rejoin the army with the willto annihilate the enemy.

Factories, farms, universities andcolleges across the country are filledwith a determination to carry out theorder of the Supreme Commanderat the risk of their lives.

The soldiers and people willbecome human bullets and bombsin a great campaign for nationalreunification.

    By Kim Yong Ho PT

    2. Advent of blood-stained Yushin

The whole of south Korea wasplaced under martial law onOctober 17 1972, nearly ten yearsafter Park Chung Hee seized presi-dency by dint of military powerand tricks in the wake of the May16 coup.

That day he mobilized tanks andother armoured vehicles to dissolvethe parliamentand banned allpolitical activi-ties and pro-claimed theYushin consti-tution.

Under theconstitution hegrabbed thepresidency of south Korea and chair-manship of the State Council, theNational Security Council and theNational Conference for Unification, thereby he was empowered to con-trol all power machines, revise theconstitution, hold plebiscite, invokeemergency measures, declare martiallaw and disband the parliament. Hegot the National Conference forUnification to elect him presidentand establish a lifelong presidentialsystem.

Park became a fuhrer, anabsolute monarch, under theYushin constitution.

Under the Yushin dictatorshipsouth Korea was reduced to a bar-ren land devoid of democracy.

The dictator saw to it that spyring cases were fabricated one afteranother to strike the whole of soci-ety with terror, killing democraticfigures and patriots.

The abduction of Kim Dae Jung,in which his men abducted theopposition leader in Tokyo andattempted to bury him in the sea, threw the world into consternation.

South Korean people weredeprived of freedom of speech, press, assembly and demonstration, elementary democratic liberty andrights and even the right to exis-tence.

South Korea turned into a theatreof rowdyism of 700 000 troops, over 15 000 agents of the CentralIntelligence Agency, some 400 000political secret agents, about 50000 policemen, more than 320 000police agents and the 3 million-strong Homeland Reserve Forces.

It was in that period that the sys-tem of watching each other

between neighbours, betweenspouses and between father andson was devised.

The south Koreans lived in con-stant fear due to frequently issuedmartial law and guard order, oft-taken emergency measures, forcedclosure of schools for political rea-son, the running of counter-espi-onage month and crime preventionweek and the campaigns to searchdisturbing elements and eliminateinsurgents against Yushin.

In two yearsfrom 1974 to1975 notoriousemergency meas-ures were takenon nine occasionsby which lots ofinnocent peoplewere tried bycourt martial and

executed. In those days many people were

subjected to water and fire tortureand electric shock torture in thecells of the Central IntelligenceAgency.

During the dictator's 18-year rulea total of some 14 million peoplewere arrested, imprisoned andkilled, or 700 000 to 800 000 eachyear. The figures tell what southKorea under Yushin dictatorshipwas like.

This is the truth about ParkChung Hee's fascist dictatorship.

    By Kim Kil Nam PT

    Malignant remarksslammed

South Korean puppets uttered aspate of vituperation, upset bySupreme Commander of the KoreanPeople's Army Kim Jong Un'sinspection of islet-defending units inthe frontline area. As to this aspokesman for the Committee forthe Peaceful Reunification of Koreaanswered KCNA on August 23. Hesaid:

Looking at the enemy position notfar away, Marshal Kim Jong Unordered that if the enemy dares startfiring, the service members shouldnot restrict it to a local war but leadit to a great campaign for nationalreunification. This is a victoriousdeclaration that has demonstratedthe spirit, courage and bravery of thebrilliant commander and a greatthunderbolt that has dealt a tellingblow to the sworn enemy.

His inspection was a height of hislove for the service personnel andpeople who are linked to him by thesame intention and feelings and foryounger generation and a grand man-ifestation of the harmonious whole inwhich the army and people are unitedsingle-mindedly around him.

The US imperialists and thesouth Korean warmongers andconservatives, seized with extremefear after pushing the situation onthe Korean peninsula to the brinkof all-out war with their joint mili-tary exercises for aggression, talked about "provocation", "creat-ing the tension" and "propaganda

and agitation".This is a reckless act of those

who are taken aback by the sky-high spirit of the brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu and thefirm determination of the army andpeople to annihilate the enemy anda last-ditch effort of those sufferingfrom a persecution complex.

The puppets have kicked offlarge-scale war exercises against theDPRK in league with the US anddared talk about "provocation" and"remarks for rallying ranks" and "fordemonstration". It is an unpardon-able mockery of the whole Koreannation and public opinion at homeand abroad and base utterancesrevealing their ignorance.

The puppets let out a stream ofmalignant invective which can con-vince no one. This is aimed to playdown even a bit great reactions andshock sparked by the field inspec-tion, control internal confusion, jus-tify their reckless moves for con-frontation and war and avoid beingisolated within and without.

The malignant remarks onlyharden the will of the DPRK armyand people to wipe out the con-frontation seekers.

As was declared solemnly inter-nally and externally, the DPRKwill neither tolerate the recklesswar exercises and provocations ofthe US imperialists and the southKorean puppets nor miss the price-less opportunity.

    Truth disclosedafter 37 years

It has recently been revealed thatJang Jun Ha, who died enigmati-cally in the period of Yushin mili-tary dictatorship, was murdered.

Jang was a renowned dissidentwho fought against the SyngmanRhee regime and Park Chung Hee'sYushin dictatorship through pro-gressive literary activity in southKorea. He opposed the Yushin dic-tator point-blank in demand ofdemocracy and reunification.

He, however, met withuntimely death in August 1975.

At the time the Yushin regimeannounced that Jang fell over aprecipice to death in the midst ofmountaineering, but nobodybelieved it as there were so manymoot points.

In those years the Yushin dicta-tor put in motion the then CentralIntelligence Agency and all otherrepressive forces to execute any-one who demanded democracyand national reunification oncharges of being "pro-communistelement" or kill them in secrecy.

Park Chung Hee killed lots ofdemocratic figures and patriots bycooking up such cases as therebuilding of the RevolutionaryParty for Reunification, theNational Democratic Youths andStudents League and the spy ringon Ullung Island. His men kid-napped opposition leader Kim DaeJung in broad daylight in Tokyoand tried to bury him in the sea.

The family of Jang and therelated organizations in southKorea have demanded a probeinto the truth of his mysterious

death on many occasions sincethen, but the death has remaineda mystery due to the obstructivetricks of the remnants of theYushin regime and the conserva-tive clan patronizing them.

However, in the course ofremoving his remains to the newly-built Jang Jun Ha Park in Augustthis year a hole and signs of rupturecaused by hammering were discov-ered on the skull and a judgmentconfirmed that he was murdered.

At present, opposition partiesincluding the Democratic UnitedParty and people are strongly con-demning the outrages committedby the Yushin dictatorship anddemanding that Park Kun Hye, thedaughter of the Yushin dictator, renounce the presidential candida-cy, and Jang's relatives are cryingout for the settlement of the issue.

Nonplussed, the conservativerulers are busy finding excuses, claiming that the case of Jang Jun Hahas already been settled and a furthersurvey will make no difference.

The murder of Jang Jun Hawhich has been disclosed after37 years is another living witnessto the cruelty and outrageousnessof the Yushin dictatorship andthe truth of it should be probedthoroughly and those responsiblefor it punished heavily.

The south Korean people shouldnever tolerate the attempt of the con-servative forces, which are crackingdown on the movement for democ-racy and national reunification, torevive the Yushin dictatorship.

They commented that his Russiatrip was a great event that showedoff his pluck and the highly stablesituation in the DPRK to the worldas it was made when the Koreanpeninsula situation was extremelyacute due to the US which dis-patched the nuclear-powdered sub-marine Texas and task forces inand around south Korea.

His Russia visit in midsummerlast year covering over 6 000 kilo-metres was a long journey of patri-otic devotion that would go downin the history of DPRK-Russiafriendship.

Exploits will go down in DPRK-Russia annals

Most recently, a report onradioactive warfare worked out bythe Federal Bureau of Investigationof the US on April 20 1951 hasbeen discovered.

The report revealed an attemptthe US made to spray a huge quan-tity of radioactive materials includ-ing plutonium and nuclear waste inthe area bisecting the Koreanpeninsula and create a no-man's-land which is inaccessible by any-one when the Korean war (June 251950-July 27 1953) it started wasin a stalemate due to its repeateddefeat in battles, a bid to divide theKorean peninsula permanently.

According to the report, the US,in the wake of mapping out thescheme, got the Atomic EnergyCommittee to examine and confirmits feasibility and made field testson the radioactive warfare in thenuclear test ground in Utah on 65occasions till 1952.

The recent disclo-sure of the horriblescenario clearlyreveals once againthe true colours ofthe US as a brutaland unethical crimi-nal that does nothesitate to extermi-nate a nation andreduce its land to apermanent waste-land for the purposeof realizing its wildambition for aggres-sion.

The US was thefirst to makenuclear weapons on

the earth and is the sole nuclearcriminal state that inflicted nucleardisasters on humankind includingthose on Hiroshima and Nagasakiin Japan and Bikini.

During the Korean war itattempted to use atomic bombs toannihilate the Korean nation anddue to the US A-bomb blackmail atthe time lots of Korean familieswere separated and are still suffer-ing from the separation.

The US is still posing a nuclearthreat to the DPRK, openly reveal-ing its intention to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike on the latterwith a large quantity of nukes itdeployed in south Korea.

This is evidenced by its inces-sant military provocation and vari-ous DPRK-targeted war rehearsalsit conducts jointly with the southKorean puppets by hauling hugeforces of aggression including

means of nuclear attack as if theywere annual events.

This notwithstanding, it is talk-ing about a "nuclear threat" fromthe DPRK boisterously, whileclamouring for peace, security anddenuclearization on the interna-tional arena.

The report called for keepingopen to discussion the possibilityof the use of nuclear materials, noteliminating it completely, in thefuture, too. This indicates that theUS remains unchanged in its inten-tion to resort to nukes.

That is why nukes should becontrolled with nukes as was statedby the spokesman for the Anti-Nuke Peace Committee of Koreaon August 24 and the DPRK's deci-sion to make a full-scale reexami-nation of the nuclear issue isabsolutely right.

Monument recalls leader’s visit to Siberia

September 1 is Day of Non-Aligned Movement.

The NAM made its debut inSeptember 1961 with a purpose tooppose domination and subordina-tion and defend independence tocope with the aggressive bloc.Over the past five decades it hasstriven to safeguard global peaceand security, achieve national inde-pendence and build a peaceful, newworld under the banner of inde-pendence against imperialism.

The meeting of foreign ministersof non-aligned countries held inBali, Indonesia last year reviewedthe achievements made by themovement over the past fifty years, adopted a commemorative declara-tion and approved the accession ofAzerbaijan and Fiji to the NAM.

The NAM member states, whichamounted to 25 in its incipiency, have reached 120, making it possi-ble to enhance its position on theinternational arena.

Independence against imperial-ism is the banner of struggle theNAM should continue to holdaloft.

The imperialists remainunchanged in their aggressive andpredatory nature. They try to dom-inate the world and realize theirpredatory ambition by pursuing thepolicy of strength. This has con-strained social progress and inde-pendent development of non-aligned and developing countries.

When they unite politically andwork together on the principle ofindependence, non-aligned coun-tries can oppose and reject theimperialists' aggression and inter-vention and defend sovereignty.

The imperialist forces applysanctions and pressure to thosecountries aspiring for independ-ence against imperialism and eventry to invade them militarily, whilepatronizing those following them-selves, on the pretext of such issuesas nuclear development and humanrights. That is why non-aligned anddeveloping countries should paydue attention to the injustice andnegative effect of the application ofdouble standard in internationalrelations and reject it collectively.

They can prevent economic sub-ordination and ideological and cul-tural infiltration as well as politicaland military domination by theimperialists when they promotesolidarity and cooperation on theprinciple of independence, equali-ty, non-interference and reciproci-ty, settle divergences of opinionand disputes in a peaceful way andconfront with the imperialists'moves for aggression and interven-tion by concerted efforts.

The banner of peace against warshould be held up higher.

World without war is the unani-mous desire of humankind.

There can never be genuinepeace as long as there are the impe-rialists who feed on war of aggres-sion and domination. To opposewar and defend peace it is neces-sary to resist the imperialists' poli-cy of strength, strong-arm policy, collectively under the banner ofindependence.

The DPRK government makesevery possible effort to defend thebasic principles and ideal of theNAM and develop it steadily.
