Colleges That Change Lives is a college educational book, originally written by

longtime student advocate and formerNew York Times education editor Loren Pope.It was first published in 1996, and it concerns college admissions in the United States.

There are 40 choices for liberal arts colleges that, according to Pope, offer as much, if

not more, than Ivy League schools.

Each of the 40 schools profiled in Colleges That Change Livesfeatures a liberal artscurriculum that offers students lessons from literature, mathematics, the natural and

social sciences, and the arts, though no two colleges do it the same way. Students

draw unexpected and fascinating connections between disciplineseverything from

the mathematics of poetry to the politics of genetic scienceand often combine such

interests in double majors or interdisciplinary study. Employers and graduate schools
