Luke Moy 12S-D A2 Media – Digipaks This digipak shows the Nirvana collection, special edition. For a special edition this is quite unconventional compared to other digipaks. First off all the layout of the digipak comes in tin and each the CD’s are contained in a mini book rather than panels or slots. You don’t really get 12 disk digipaks and that it is unconventional but it looks quite nice anyway. This edition contains every album that the band ever produced and it is all in one book. On the left you can see that there is a collectors figurine of the lead singer of nirvana Kurt Cobain. The thing, which makes this appeal to many Nirvana fans, is that Kurt Cobain died and therefore is classed as a collector’s item. The colors of the packaging are mostly dark colors’ like blacks and grays and on the collectors tin you have an image of the band that appears to be shadowed which makes it stand out less. The band name Nirvana is printed in bold lettering on the front of the tin, which makes it stand out, compared to the grays and shadowed out images. The CD’s are quite brightly colored which is quite a shock really compared to the fact that the front cover is so dark and gives off a negative image. I think that the dark colors are meant to give a negative image and are meant to make you think about the life of Kurt Cobain and

This digipak shows the Nirvana collection, special edition. I think that the dark colors are meant to give a negative image and are meant to make you think about the life of Kurt Cobain and feel a bit of sadness that he will no longer make music for the fans. There is not much writing used on this digipak barring the Nirvana logo which is written in the trademark font and on the CD case you have a list of the albums in which they have released over the years. In my opinions I think this is because they don’t want to tell you how good they were in writing, they want there music to do the talking for them and that will show everyone how good they were. The target audience for this wont just be Nirvana fans but people who are just fans of rock in general. I think anyone who enjoys rock music will appreciate what Nirvana done for the music world and therefore will enjoy this piece. It has got a piece for the Nirvana fans though with the figurine on Kurt Cobain. The figurine itself comes from Nirvana’s most famous song and one of the greatest songs in rock history smells like teen spirit. The figurine has Kurt Cobain in the famous pose from smells like teen spirit with the signature fender jaguar guitar. So this piece has a lot to offer to both Nirvana fans and rock fans. There aren’t too many images on this digipak and the one image that is used is repeated. The image on the front of the tine is the shadowed image of the band

and this is repeated on the cover of the CD. There are brightly colored images on the front of every CD and this is the original cover from the album in which they had previously released. I don’t think that the genre is apparent from this digipak. Nirvana was a alternative rock band but it is not shown from the digipak. This should be a problem though and the reason or this is because Nirvana is such a huge influential band and everyone knows who the band are and the genre of music in which they performed. The dark colors gives away that they perform some type of rock but the sub genre is not apparent. In my opinion I think that this is successful and the reason for this is because everyone likes and knows of Nirvana. Due to the fact that this piece comes with every album they ever recorded it will appeal to rock fans but then where it comes with the figurine from the video smells like teen spirit it appeal to nirvana fans.
