ForewordsNamaste and welcome to the first issue of NIP Magazine.

Nepalese in Photography (NIP) started as a facebook group in January 2009. It was a humble beginning with a handful of members sharing their knowledge in photography. Today we have over 80,000 members. Now, we are no longer a group, we are a community.

“Lets, come up with a photography magazine for Nepal”, was a suggestion few years ago by a very good friend of mine, Shoki Shakya. The idea was great and we attempted to put a magazine together but never got around to finish it. Couple of years later admins of NIP facebook group again stressed the need of putting out a magazine. Special mention and the biggest credit to Nix Nox, one of the admins, for an idea what was feasible and hence I would like to present you the first issue of NIP Magazine.

Appreciation is the fuel that ignites the passion for photography. Without appreciation and encouragement, the growth is slow. Although it is more accurate to say that constructive feedback and encouragement that helps someone to grow, I believe that appreciation of their work is the key factor that lifts a photographer to the next level.

The main purpose of this magazine is to promote, support, acknowledge and to appreciate members of NIP by publishing their images in this magazine. This is also our way of saying ‘Thank You’ to all the members who have tagged along with us in this beautiful photographic journey. We are sharing, learning, and making new friends by supporting and encouraging. This has not only helped us become better photographers but also to be better persons and grow as a community. On behalf of team NIP, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and salute you for being there with us all along.

In the magazine we will be publishing images mainly by the members of NIP. Photos will be selected from the fortnightly photography challenges as well as the NIP Editor’s Choice facebook page (NIPEC). In addition, there will also be interviews of popular Nepali photographers, tutorials, tips and tricks on Photography, Photoshop and Lightroom.

Please feel free to share your feedback with us so we can improve in our future publications. Thank you all that are associated with NIP. Thank you for your ongoing support without which, we are nothing but a wish that never came true.

Regards,

Mohan Duwal

Tell us a little bit about yourself.Born in Bhaktapur, raised in Kathmandu, Nepal, I’m a web-designer and developer by profession. Photography for me is more than just an escape from everything that is mundane – it what makes me feel alive. I feel blessed that besides the usual 5 senses of sight, sound, touch, smell and taste, I have discovered my 6th sense – My Camera. All that I have learnt about photography is through a long and exciting journey of discovery. This journey is something I cannot put down in words, for if I could I would have probably been a poet or a writer, but I am a photographer, and my pictures are moments which have affected me in one way or the other.

Mohan Duwal

In January 2006, I bought my first SLR, Nikon D80 with a Nikon 18-135mm DX. To quote Ansel Adams -“A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed.” My passion and my love for the art of photography has made me a better photographer and changed the way I view the world around me. For me, life has become a series of frames and clicks, which are the way I believe life, should be.

If you could live anywhere on this planet where would you build your dream home?Of course in the lap of Himalayas, in Nepal but there should be facilities of transportation, internet and restaurant just like in Switzerland ;)

Did you go to school to study photography? No I did not. Google and other photography websites are my schools though

How long have you been a photographer? If owning a camera makes a photographer then It was January 2006, I bought my first SLR, Nikon D80 with a Nikon 18-135mm DX, :D

How would you describe your style?I think I don’t have any style. I just love nature and always want to show the results as natural as it is.

What type of cameras do you shoot with?DSLR Nikon D7000 since April, 2012

What is your favourite photography accessory, other than your camera?1x, 500px and flickr account. Can I consider these as photography accessories? :D

If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?Being a landscape lover, I wish I had Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 :D (koi mujhe $2k de de re baba, haha)

Other than landscape, what interests you the most?I love almost every genre in photography but I enjoy taking landscape, macro, portrait, wildlife photos, most of them related to nature ;)
