SNW Links- The reason for social network links are to enable the audience to interact with other fans of Olly Murs, this creates personal relationships because people will discuss the content of the website online with each other. This link also uses the uses of gratification theory surveillance, as you are constantly finding out new information about Olly Murs- both his professional and personal life.

Camera shot- Medium Shot- This shows a direct mode of address as Olly is looking directly at the camera, this implies that he is a confident young artist who cares about his fans and has time for them all.

Dress code- is a smart/casual outfit this connotes that he takes his job seriously but yet has a fun side to him too. This clothing also uses personal identity from the uses of gratification theory as anybody will be able to relate to him due to the fact that he is wearing high street fashion which anybody is capable of purchasing.

Monetised Links- These are used to sell merchandise to his fans so that they can personally relate to him, as say for instance it has a photo of him on the front of the t-shirt they will feel like they have a part of him with them whilst they are wearing it.

The typography is quiet neutral colours this shows that he is a simple and laid back artist, this could connote his music as all of his songs could be too. The squares behind the letters could be seen as the design of a blanket, therefore connoting that his music is for a target audience of adults that need to relax e.g. sleeping or a bath after a hard/stressful day.

• How are women represented on the website?The dress code of women in the video shows that they are not seen as ‘sex objects’ but normal people, for instance she has a minimum amount of make up on which shows natural beauty and therefore there is no reason for women to plaster the make up on due to the fact that they don’t truly need it.

The dress code here of the woman in a pair of jeans and a jumper, shows the fact that for men to find a women attractive they don’t need to see ‘skin’ or a ‘cleavage’, just a nice high street fashion outfit- this shows that your average women is seen as more attractive by men.

Olly Murs uses a shopping center in his video as a location to appeal to girls as it is them that go shopping mainly and most often. He is running though the shopping center you could suggest that he is doing this to look for one of this girls to possible be with.

Olly Murs also has images of his time at a radio station to show possible a hard and technical job that he is trying to get involved in and seems to be having fun doing. He is possible doing this to try an create a popular image of themselves by taking to there fans.

How the artist’s musical genre made clear to the audience?

• The musical genre used on Olly Murs website is pop music this is illustrated by the Colour code and typography, the colours are neutral and safe which connotes that Olly is quiet and laid back artist this is supported by the gallery on his home page where fans can upload their own pictures, creating a personal identity with Olly Murs. The pop genre that Olly Murs is involved in suggest that he has chosen a quiet safe choice of genre. The fact that the image of Olly shows his dress code as being high street fashion links to the pop genre as you would not expect to see ‘extreme outfits’ (leather, dark and torn). His face in the image shows a neatly shaven and well groomed man, which you would stereotypically associate with pop as things such as tattoo’s and piercings would be linked more to genres such as rock and heavy metal.

Why are music websites important for music performers?

• The websites of music performers are important as they create a brand identity for the performer in many ways, for example…

• The website is hub which links to social networking websites to allow the audience to communicate with each other.

• There are also advertisements for upcoming events e.g. tours and album signings.

• There is also merchandise being sold to promote him as an artist, this creates a sense of personal identity with him.
