Kepler furniture is a Wiltshire-based bespoke furniture company, that take its inspiration from astronomy . My role key is to design products that meet the tolerance parameters for manufacture. The great challenge is to realize the practical limitations of changing from 2D into 3D, whilst pushing the boundaries of furniture design. However, I am active in all areas of the business including: Alias design, use of CAD, sourcing cost-effective quality materials, engaging with manufacturers, quality control, publicity and marketing.

Worked on the development and Alias design of three new models, and numerous concept designs for high-end clients, and incorporation into future production. Challenging task to combine 100 years of traditional car making with modern design and engineering techniques.

The high quality of my Alias modeling skills, plus my ability to work closely and understand engineering software application (e.g. Catia ICEM Surfacing software) lead to a further 3 month contract increasing Alias design inputs into model design trends. Recognised as being once of the best Alias designers to have worked with the company, and recommended to Hewlett Packard.

Website design and development for several clients (freelance) including the Bristol Survival School. Constant update and practice of Alias skills.

The Morgan Motor Company is world renowned for retaining the same techiques in car building since it was created in 1910. How ever considering its tradititional approuch Morgan has been working closely with Autodesk in champing CAD in small car businesses. Adopting modern 21st century technology with early 1900’s manufacture have aloud Morgan to reduce its costings on R&D and offered clients a more refined bespoke service.

James assisted in a project that saw a collaboration between two iconic British brands, Morgan Motor Company and Brooklands Museum. The aim of the project was to deliver 50 limited edition cars that would celebrate Morgans esteemed history at the venue. James was responsible for delivering pre-production renderings of the final car and were subsequently used in Octane

Whilst studying Automotive Design at Coventry University we took part in a case study that was in collaboration with Jaguar. The aim of the project was to teach current Alias techniques used in the automotive industry and to produce concepts for the aftermarket. To achieve this we combined Alias, Vred, and Photoshop to create photorealist renderings for design review. The idea behind my design was to use the wheels rotation to funnel air through the rim to cool the brakes. The manufacturing technique would use innovative 3d printing to achieve this.
