The 2012 Caterpillar Holiday Show added some magic to the holiday season. Illusionist Tod Buchanan returned to Peoria and delivered mystifying acts for all to view. Not only did he bring a toy soldier and ballerina doll to life, he also created snow inside the theatre, and made a real-life Caterpillar excavator appear on stage. A special thanks goes out to Steve Gosselin, Vice President of Customer Services Support, for providing the welcome at both performances as well as Ron Tourtillott, Tom Webber, Mike Flamingo, and their team for providing the equipment. “The Holiday Show was a blast for our family. Our three-year-old enjoyed the showmanship of the magician, but now I am worried that she thinks anyone can fit into a small storage box. The gift of the snow globe has earned a place of honor on her dresser next to the special hair bands. Thank you for offering this special family event” said Mark Guzzardo, Human Services Division. Roy Muni, Global Purchasing Division, commented “This year’s Holiday Show was a tremendous program. It kept the interest of both kids and adults throughout the entire performance. The illusionist was very professional and a polished performer. I would like to see him again in the future with some new illusions for the audience.” The Caterpillar Holiday Show is a tradition that has been around for 74 years bringing Caterpillar families together to celebrate the holiday season. At the end of the show, volunteers gave each child a Caterpillar snow globe. Many children eagerly waited to share their wish lists as they visited with Santa and Mrs. Claus. As with all of the Social Activities events, an extra special thanks goes out to the Caterpillar employee and retiree volunteers that helped ensure the event was a success. The Caterpillar Retirees Club ended 2012 with the annual Christmas luncheon on December 5 at Embassy Suites in East Peoria. Jennifer Zammuto, Caterpillar Foundation Manager, welcomed the group of Club officers, directors, and past presidents and thanked them for their efforts in community work and Club organization. “A huge appreciation goes out to the 2012 board members and committee chairs. Your volunteer efforts with hospital and nursing home visits, food drives, and the Caterpillar blood drives, just to name a few…in addition to your support for each other and other Caterpillar families, are to be commended. The Caterpillar Retirees Club is a very important part of Caterpillar’s overall success as you made Caterpillar what it is today and your legacy lives on.”

The installation of new Officers and Directors took place on December 7. Mary Remmers was sworn in as president of the Club and the traditional gavel presentation was made to Louie LaCost as outgoing president during the ceremony.

Membership in the Caterpillar Retirees Club is open to all Caterpillar retirees. The Club offers members a wide range of activities including opportunities to volunteer in the community and at the Caterpillar Employee Blood Drives, hospital visits to fellow members, bus trips, and weekly gatherings at the Club headquarters in the Fondulac Administration Building in East Peoria where members enjoy lunch, Bingo, and other entertainment and speakers.

For more information on how to become involved with the Caterpillar Retirees Club, please contact the Club at 699-5412.
