NEAR FIELD
COMMUNICATION
PREPARED BY:
Vinay Santosh Jain
WHAT IS NFC?
Wireless communication technology
Enables data transfer between machines
Uses the concept of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
IN SIMPLE WORDS…
A WAY BY WHICH DEVICES CAN SEND
AND RECEIVE INFORMATION
WIRELESSLY AT A CLOSE RANGE
HOW IT WORKS?
NFC works:
Via magnetic field induction technology, and
operates on an unlicensed radio frequency band
Works within a range of 10 cm or less and supports encryption
Requires low power to run
Compatible with contactless Radio Frequency Identification
MODES OF OPERATION
MODES OF OPERATION
ACTIVE MODE
PASSIVE MODE
Active mode-
Two NFC enabled devices transferring data in active mode
Inducing magnetic field
MODES OF OPERATION
Passive mode-
A NFC-enabled mobile phone is paired with a RFID-tagged "smart poster"
APPLICATION OF NFC
NFC APPLICATIONS
TOUCH AND GO
TOUCH AND CONFIRM
TOUCH AND CONNECT
TYPES OF NFCAPPLICATIONS
• Application such as access control or transport/event ticketing , where the user only needs to bring the device storing the ticket or access code close to the reader
TOUCH AND GO
• Application such as mobile payment where the user has to confirm the interaction by entering a password or just accepting the transaction
TOUCH AND CONFIRM
• Links two NFC-enabled devices to enable transfer of data amongst them, such as downloading music, exchanging images etc.
TOUCH AND CONNECT
CARRY YOUR WORLD AROUND
ADVANTAGES OF NFCHigh convenience to the user, because
the data exchange is done just by bringing two mobiles together.
Secure communication.
No special software.
No manual configuration and settings.
No search and pair procedure.
NFC can be used together with existing technologies like Bluetooth and thus act for longer range also.
DISADVANTAGES OF NFC
The system has the limitation that it can be operated only with devices under a short range i.e. around 10 cm.
The data transfer rate is very less at about 106kbps, 212 kbps and 424kbps.
SOME DEVICES USING NFC TECHNOLOGY
CONCLUSION
Mobile handsets are the primary target for NFC and soon NFC will be implemented in most handheld devices.
The advancements in mobile wireless technology and communication standards have enabled usage of contactless and NFC based payment models.
