How the Traditional RotaCut Works...All RotaCuts offer true protection for pumps and downstream equipment from damaging solids and debris. The illustration below shows two types of solids in the liquid stream. The Yellow dots represent floatable solids such as wood fragments, plastics, rags and organic fibrous materials. These items are drawn through the cutting head with the flow of liquid. The objects are macerated to a suitable size for downstream equipment to pass.

The dark dots represent heavy solids such as stones or metal fragments. These objects are caught in the collection basin for removal from the stream. Damaging hard objects are eliminated from the stream before they can cause damage downstream.

How the RotaCut RCX Works...The RotaCut RCX offers true protection for pumps and downstream equipment from damaging solids and debris as well. However, the new horizontal design allows for a more direct flow through the cutting head. The design also allows a much larger diameter cutting element in a very compact package. The direct flowpath greatly reduces the amount of headloss incurred when adding the cutting head to the stream.

The heavy solids are forced into the bottom of the pot where they are removed from the stream entirely.

Higher working Pressure, RCX SeriesThe RCX 48 & 58 can take up to 87psi. This dramatically increases the range of applications this product can fulfill.

Many discharge-side applications are greater than the 30psi maximum RC series. Lower headloss and higher working pressure make the RCX and ideal candidate for applications such as:

• TWAS – Higher % solids

• Primary & Digested Sludge – Higher Flow Rate and Higher Solids Content.

• Digester Feed – High Flow Rate.

The Cutting HeadWhat makes the RotaCut unique is the cutting head design. Scissor-like cutting action powers through tough rags and hair which virtually eliminates build up and system blockage due to ragging.

• The solids are reduced to a size specified by the application and downstream equipment.

• The cut size of the solids are determined by a combination of the rotational speed of the cutter combined with the pattern of the screen.

• Auto-Reverse abruptly reverses the blade direction should something become lodged in the screen that is not cut on the first pass.

• Auto Cut Control (ACC) uses a hydraulic piston to maintain properly pressure between the blades and screen.

• Self Sharpening blades keep a fresh edge cutting at all times.

The Cutting Head: RCX Screen DesignThe pattern of the screen affects cut size, performance and blade life. The RCX series has several screen designs available. We select a pattern based on the customers performance requirements.

• Screen options go from very coarse down to a fine honey comb pattern.

• The spiral pattern shown on the middle three patterns allow very eve wear on the blade surface.

• Screens are reversible allowing two cycles of use on one part.

• Screens are available in stainless steel and tungsten carbide for tough applications.

The Cutting Head: Auto Cut ControlThe Auto Cut Control (ACC) provides the right pressure between the blade assembly and the cutting screen. Proper pressure ensures the more efficient cutting action while reducing excess wear on the blades. As the blades wear as part of their normal life-cycle, the ACC advances the blade assembly until the blades are at the stage wherethey require replacement.

• ACC operates through pressurized air over hydraulic oil.

• ACC communicates with the control panel and sendsan alert when blades needto be changed.

• We’ve introduced a new designof the pressure system that is easierto use and more accurate.

The Cutting Head: Auto Cut Control for RCX ModelsThe ACC for all RCX RotaCuts shares a common design element that is different from the normal RC RotaCut line. The hydraulic cylinder is located externally versus being positioned inside the collection pot. There are major benefits to this design such as:

• Reduced headloss due to less components present in the liquid stream.

• Easier maintenance. Opening the pot isn’t necessary to service the hydraulic.

The Cutting Head: Auto Cut ControlNext Generation ACC controls.All new RotaCuts come with the advanced design ACC control unit. We’ve merged the two bottle, air over oil system for an combined design that features an integrated hand pump for easy adjustment.

• Smaller, less complicated format.

• Gauges now show both bar and psi.

• Integrated pump is attached preventing it getting lost or damaged.

The Cutting Head: RCX Cutting AssemblyThe cutting assembly comes in the standard four blade configuration as on all Inline RotaCut models. We also now offer a six blade version for the RCX as well for high solids and high wear applications.

• The four blade assembly is optimum for most applications.

• The six blade option allows the unit to be run slower to maintain performance while reducing wear.

• The six blade option also allows cutting performance to increase when running at the same rotational speed as a four blade design.

Model RCX 48 & 58G, Inlet/Outlet orientation optionsAs shown, the RCX can be oriented in a variety of ways to work in an existing piping arrangement.

The front half of the collection pot can be rotated in most any direction. The front half of the pot is available in a transposed design as well if the inlet must be positioned on the left.

The rear half of the pot is also available in a transposed design if the outlet must be on the right.

Model RCX 48 & 58G, Access Door OrientationAs shown, the access door is avialable in an top opening or bottom opening position. This will accommodate piping arrangements where the inlet is lower than the outlet. Either configuration allows for quick access to the cutting components and easy inline maintenance.

Model RCX 48 & 58G, Enlarged collection pot optionSome applications require increased handling of heavy solid objects. To accommodate these applications, a larger collection pot is available. Both the standard and larger version are able to be piped in to a discharge system allowing for quick evacuation of solids from the liquid stream without actually opening the RotaCut.
