The weather is getting hot here and the pool is back open with limited people that can use it at one time. The club house is still closed, and everyone is keeping space between each other

because of the virus.The Hardin house sale will be completed by June 1st. The survey

of the property has been completed and the problem with the property line is with the bank. We have a space that no one claims that they own it. If we claim the land we will own it in seven years. The residents will be able to tour the house when they return to determine what to do with the property.

The cameras are being fixed as of this writing. We hope they are finally fixed so they are working properly. It has been a long time that they have not been working right.

The pool is scheduled to be resurfaced this summer. We had two places patched temporarily this winter and we need the whole surface renewed so it won’t lift again.

We are having the storm drain repaired again. We did not like the original job done. We are also having two more drains that look like they are unstable. We hope that all the repairs are done to our satisfaction.

The palm trees are growing so fast that we need to have some trimmed again. They are hanging down so far that they hit your face when walking under them on the sidewalk.

The board hopes everyone is staying safe this summer.

Greetings, All activities for the month of May were also

canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both our clubhouse and pool were closed for over a month. The good news is that Dunedin is gradually opening again. Our pool has been opened, with no more than 10 people allowed in the pool area and are to remain six feet apart. I want to thank everyone who contributed by writing articles for this newsletter. It is very much appreciated. Our Golden Acres Community Task Force is still operational although the “needs” have diminished since our stay at home orders in Pinellas County has eased and more are now allowed to go out. Many of our residents continue to reach out to their neighbors

and friends on a regular basis. As of this writing, the “needs” of those in our park have been fulfilled thanks to so many of our caring residents. The generosity that I have witnessed here in our park has been amazing.

Once we are past this pandemic, we will continue with this community outreach program, not only for any “needs”, but also to reach out to those without email for important park information. There are currently about 51 residents with about 24 of them being year-round without email.

Lastly, I am still the point-of-contact for anyone with “needs”. My email address and my phone number are below the heading of this article. I will then reach out to our task force to assist in fulfilling any needs.

A new study shows that stress really can give you gray hair. Researchers found that the body’s fight-or-flight response plays a key role in turning hair gray.

Your hair color is determined by pigment-producing cells called melanocytes. New melanocytes are made from melanocyte stem cells that live in the hair follicle at the base of your hair strand.

As we age, these stem cells gradually disappear. The researchers showed that stress also leads to the loss of these pigment-producing stem cells in mice.

Nerves in your sympathetic nervous system — which is responsible for the body’s fight-or-flight response — go throughout the body, including into hair follicles. The study showed that stress causes the release of the chemical norepinephrine into the follicle.

Norepinephrine affects the melanocyte stem cells living there. It causes them to rapidly turn into pigment cells and move out of the hair follicles. Without stem cells left to create new pigment cells, new hair turns gray or white.

“When we started to study this, I expected that stress was bad for the body — but the detrimental impact of stress that we discovered was beyond what I imagined,” says Dr. Ya-Chieh Hsu of Harvard University, who led the study. “After just a few days, all of the melanocyte stem cells were lost. Once they’re gone, you can’t regenerate pigments anymore. The damage is permanent.”

minutes. After heating up your muscles, dedicate some time to your joints. Think about starting at the top of your body and working your way down. Move your head left and right and tilt your head side to side to warm up your neck. Raise your shoulders up and down, then add some shoulder circles. Roll your shoulders forward for 30 seconds or so then reverse the motion rolling your shoulders back maintaining the circular pattern. Holding your arms out directly in front of you (you may choose to sit in a chair), do some wrist circles in one direction and then reverse the motion. Next, stand with your leg’s hip width apart, slowly making a figure 8 shape with your hips. Continue in one direction for about 30 seconds and then reverse. Have a seat in a chair and lift one foot off the ground and begin making circles with your ankle. Start in one direction, then reverse the motion. Repeat with the other ankle. Whatever warm-up you prefer, the goal is to warm your muscles and joints to prepare your body for exercise.

Chair Squats. If you have knee issues, you may choose to skip this exercise (please consult with your doctor). Squats are a great way to strengthen your lower body. If you can, find two chairs to use for this exercise. One chair will be used for squatting, and the other chair will be used for balance. Place the chairs one behind the other facing the same direction leaving enough room for you to stand between the two chairs. Place your hands on the chair in front of you for balance, then slowly push your hips back, bend your knees, and lower your body to the chair. You may choose to lightly sit on the chair or barely touch it before standing up and returning to the starting position.

Wall Push Ups. Wall push-ups are a great way to strengthen your upper body. Stand about two feet behind a wall and place your hands on the wall about shoulder height. Begin to bend your elbows out to the sides as you bring your face and chest close to the wall. Your heels will most likely come off the floor – that’s ok! Press your hands into the wall to straighten your elbows and return to the starting position.

Toe Stands. Grab one of the chairs you used for the squatting exercise and stand directly behind it using the chair for balance. Slowly raise up onto your tiptoes then slowly lower your heels back to the floor.

Knee Extensions. Using the same chair, have a seat keeping your back straight and knees bent. One leg at a time, slowly extend your leg out in front of you. Hold this position for a few seconds and then lower back to the starting position. Repeat with opposite leg.

Chest Expansions. While still sitting in your chair. Bring your arms straight out in front of you (shoulder height) and place your palms together. As you inhale, open your arms wide

I t is definitely not usual! But the cool/cold weather keeps the daffodils fresh and they last for weeks when the weather is like this. Because deer are a fact of life in the country I plant daffodils everywhere, not tulips, as they won't eat the daffodils. So, I have quite

literally hundreds of daffodils blooming - some in the beds, some in the woods where they are naturalized, but all beautiful. Some are double white or double yellow, or all white or white with a yellow trumpet or yellow with an orange trumpet. Some trumpets are frilly, some short, some long. There are just so many varieties, it is always fun to plant a new bag in the fall to add to the collection. In case you didn’t notice, I love gardening!
