Christian School
Most people want the best for their children. Especially, when it comes to education they are looking for a
school with outstanding principles. They not only prefer a school with academic standards, but are also looking
for a place where their children will learn specific values. Because many parents have to work from early
morning to late afternoon, they choose a school where their children not only receive teaching, but also
experience worthy examples of teachers living according to certain norms. The school has to be a safe place,
physical and spiritual, because children spend such a lot of time at school.
As a result of the above mentioned, many people choose Christian schools. Your choice was Christian School
Lesedi la Ditshaba in Soshanguve, block GG.
However, the question is, do you know the identity of Lesedi Christian School? What is belief of the
schoolboard and staff of Lesedi? What is the educational goal of Lesedi? What is the ‘outcome’ they strive to?
Which teaching methods can you expect? What are your children learning or going to learn at Lesedi?
Lesedi la Ditshaba is a Christian school, which means that Christ is Master of the school and His Word determines every aspect. The identity, goal, methods, outcomes, as well as the learning content is subordinate to what God says in Scripture. God reveals Himself, He bears His very self to us clearly and openly in His only and divine Word. The Bible, God’s inspired Word, is a gift of God. Because of God’s great care and concern for His people and their salvation, He commanded His servants, the prophets and apostles to commit His oracles to writings. Through His Word and grace we know how to live a God-pleasing life and thereby can we focus on His eternal blessings. Therefore, to define the identity of the Lesedi School, we have to start with God. Who is God, what He has done and is He still doing for His children and what does He expect from us, are some of the questions we have to answer in advance, because God Himself determines education. Who is God? The Belgic Confession summarises the Biblical teachings about God in the following words, We believe in the heart and confess with the mouth that there is a unique and simple spiritual Being, Who we call God, eternal, incomprehensible, invisible, unchangeable, and infinite, Who is wise and the overflowing source of all good things (BC 1). Joined to this truth and the Word of God, we believe in one God alone (Who is one essence, with incommunicable properties in three persons, having had a real distinction of affairs from eternity), certainly in accordance with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. For the Father is the cause, origin, and beginning of all visible and invisible things. The Son is the Word, the Wisdom, and the Image of the Father. The Holy Spirit is the true power and strength that emanates from the Father and the Son. Nevertheless, this distinction does not make it that God is divided, as if into three parts, seeing that Scripture teaches us that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit each has a hypostasis, or a subsistence, distinguished by their properties. Thus these three Persons are nevertheless one God alone. Therefore, it is certain then that the Father is not the Son, nor is the Son the Father, nor is the Holy Spirit either the Father or the Son. At the same time, however, these persons, so distinct, are neither divided, nor confused, nor mingled together. For the Father did not take on human flesh, nor the Holy Spirit, but only the Son. The Father never was without His Son, nor without His Holy Spirit, since these same Persons are of the same eternal essence. Far from these, there is neither a first nor a last, for all three are one, in truth and power, in goodness and mercy (BC 8). We belief in the sacred Trinity of God. God’s work God created all visible and invisible material and life in six days. He formed man out of the dust of the earth and made a covenant with him by bending down to him to give him promises. Although the first married couple broke God’s covenant, God kept on bowing down to humankind (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David etc.) and

promised them salvation in and through Christ. Even today God bows down to His (small) children and promises them redemption through belief in Christ. Jesus Christ came to this world, to die for the sins of those who receive the grace of believing God’s Word. He justifies and sanctifies sinners and blesses them with the gift of His Holy Spirit. He renovates their hearts to obey Him. Through Christ believers already have eternal life. God entrusts children to parents who are responsible to teach the young ones about their heavenly Father and the loving answer He expects from them. The Christian school is a means to parents who want to obey God. Christian teachers are indebted to speak with the children about God and His great deeds, to teach them diligently how to behave as heirs of God’s kingdom. Living a Christian life is not something anybody can do himself. God’s Spirit empowers His children to live according to His will. He works in them to bear fruit to glorify God’s name. However, He calls parents, teachers and children through the preaching and reading of His Word, to convert daily and to believe consistently. Light of Nations Lesedi la Ditshaba Christian School strives to educate children holistic to the praise of God, through Whom they will shine as lights in a dark world. Raising children God’s way will have effect! If parents and educators live and teach God’s Word in total commitment, God will send His blessings to make Lesedi la Ditshaba a bright shining light in Soshanguve. Henria Stolper. GRANDMA’S TEA CUP by Bonnie G. Lucas
Grandma’s house was wonderful! She had a beautiful room where
she kept all her “special” things -- handkerchiefs, old dresses and hats that Stella would play dress up in. But what Stella loved most was Grandma’s tea cups. Grandma had hundreds of old tea cups in white cupboards with shiny golden handles. The tea cups were decorated with colourful pictures. But her favourite was the ballerina. It was so dainty and beautiful! Every time she visited, Stella begged to hold the ballerina, but Grandma always said she was too young, that she might break it. Finally, Grandma said the next time she visited she would her hold it. She was going to visit Grandma today. She could hardly wait!
When she arrived Stella jumped out of the car and ran up the steps into Grandma’s waiting arms.
“I have a special surprise for you, my dear,” said Grandma with a smile.
“Oh, I love surprises!” exclaimed Stella. She just knew she was going to finally hold the ballerina tea cup!
“Well, I was cleaning the attic and found a trunk of old clothes. I thought you might like to play dress up,” said Grandma.
“Oh, that’s nice,” said Stella.
“What’s the matter, my dear? You don’t seem very excited,” said Grandma. “I thought you liked to play dress up.”
Stella didn’t want to hurt Grandma’s feelings. Maybe she forgot her promise about the tea cup.
“I do, I guess I am just tired from the trip,” she said.
“Well, you will feel much better tomorrow after a good night’s sleep,” said Grandma.
She was so disappointed that Grandma had forgotten her promise. She had been looking forward to this trip all year and now that she was here, she was not going to get to hold the ballerina.
“Stella, would you like to walk to Mr. Thompson’s store with me?” said Grandma.
“No, thank you, I’ll stay here,” said Stella.
“Okay, I’ll be right back,” said Grandma.
“I’m a big girl now; I can hold tea cups and not break them,” said Stella to herself. So she ran upstairs and took out the ballerina tea cup. Just as she picked it up she heard a noise. As she twirled around to see what it was, the tea cup fell out of her hands and crashed to the floor.
“Oh, no!” cried Stella. She had broken Grandma’s favorite tea cup. What was she going to do? As she stood there looking down at the broken pieces, she heard Grandma downstairs.
“Stella, I’m home,” called Grandma.
Stella hurriedly picked up the broken pieces, put them in a box she found lying on
the floor and ran downstairs.
“I was just upstairs putting my suitcase away,” lied Stella. She knew she shouldn’t lie, but Grandma would be so angry with her, and she just knew she wouldn’t love her anymore.
“I was thinking about a promise I made to you the last time you were here,” said Grandma. “I think it’s time that you get to hold the tea cups,” said Grandma as she smiled at Stella.
“Oh, that’s okay, Grandma, I can just look at them in the cabinet. I wouldn’t want to drop one and break it,” said Stella.
11
“No, a promise is a promise. We will look at them tomorrow,” said Grandma.
The next morning after breakfast Grandma said, “Well, let’s go look at those tea cups.”
Maybe Grandma wouldn’t see the missing ballerina tea cup. After all, it was in the back of the cupboard and she would just get one from the front and she would never know.
Grandma opened the cupboard. “My goodness,” she exclaimed. “I know it was here. I can’t seem to find the ballerina tea cup.”
“Oh, Grandma, I’m so sorry! Please don’t hate me. I thought you forgot your promise, so I got it out myself, but I heard a noise and I dropped the tea cup and it broke,” she sobbed as she went to get the broken pieces. But the box was empty!
“Stella, come here,” said Grandma. “I could never hate you. I love you!”
“Even after what I’ve done?” sobbed Stella.
“Even after what you’ve done,” said Grandma. “But I hope you learned a lesson.”
“Oh, I have. I was disobedient and I lied to you. I should have listened to you when you told me not to touch the tea cups. You were right,” said Stella.
“Yes, you were disobedient, but I know you are sorry and that you won’t disobey me anymore.”
“I promise Grandma,” said Stella.
“Oh, look what we have here,” Grandma said as she turned back to the cupboard.
There, sitting on the shelf, was the ballerina tea cup, all glued back together!
But would have happened if grandma did not pretend to look for a cup? What if she truly had forgotten about her promise? Do you
think that Stella could have told her the truth still? What would you do if you were in this situation?
The truth is that we always do bad things and sometimes trying to hide tem seems to be the solution. We lie easily when we want people to think good of us. We even sometimes tell half- truths because we think that will protect us from being punished.
But the truth is that God is the One who gave the commandment not to lie and when we keep this commandment like any other we show our love to Him as well as our love to our neighbours.
When we tell a lie, that proves that we love ourselves more than we love Him.
When we don’t tell the truth, we are spitting in the face of God because we disobey Him. We live as if He does not exist while we know for sure that He sees everything and He is always everywhere.
When we hide the wrong we did, we might get away from being punished at school or home but we will never get away from being punished by the Lord. God said in His word that the wages of sin is death, therefore every one of us deserves eternal death because we all have sinned against the Lord. BUT for Him to forgive us we need to confess our sins to Him, accept that every time we sin we have loved ourselves more than Him and do not deserve His mercy and grace.
By accepting this we also confess and accept that Christ Jesus came and died for us so that we won’t have to die anymore. If and when we accept Him He promises to give us a new life, take away all our sins and teach us to be truthful always.
Our prayer: “May the Lord open all our eyes to see His grace and the finished work He has done for us through His death and resurrection,in the name of Jesus Christ Amen”.
