A Strong Start Together!
StrongStart is a parent-participation program, developed to give you opportunity to play
and engage with your child, getting down on the floor, doing arts/crafts, water play, circle
time, playing in the gym with your child, enjoying the moment together and allowing your
child to ‘do it their way’. ☺ This is your special time together that you will cherish forever.
Your child needs your attention, direction and love. Thank you for the gift of your time!😊
Thank you for getting down on the ground or a chair and
playing. It makes a more relaxed play space when
everyone is at the same eye level. If parents are
standing up, you will notice the room is a lot less settled
or calm.
DIWALI - Festival of Lights Celebration Please join us this Wednesday, November 7th in our
classroom for a morning of fun with our Diwali Celebration.
Playtime is still our main focus, but we have the privilege to
have a few of our StrongStart families share with us their
tradition of celebrating Diwali. The moms and grandparents
will prepare some yummy food for us to celebrate with them
their festival of lights. We will be enjoying some Punjabi music
and we will be dancing too! A grandmother (Dadi) will be make Roti for us in our classroom!
Yum! Thank you to our wonderful families.
Diwali also known as the "festival of lights", is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in
autumn every year. The Festival of Lights, Diwali, is a colorful and happy celebration.
Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs to mark historical events, stories or
myths, but they all spiritually mark the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over
ignorance, good over evil, hope over despair. Diwali is one of the happiest of holidays in
India.
Before Diwali night, families clean, renovate and decorate their homes. It is also the
period when little children hear ancient stories, legends, myths from their parents and
elders. On Diwali night, they dress up in new clothes or their best outfit, light
up diyas (lamps and candles) inside and outside their home, and participate in
family puja (prayers).
Many women wear fine jewelry and silk outfits to celebrate Diwali. Some women and girls
use mehendi, which is a temporary henna decoration, on their palms. Various lights, candles
and sparklers are lit inside and outside homes, particularly in courtyards.
After puja, fireworks follow, then a family feast including sweets
and an exchange of gifts between family members and close
friends. http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/canada/diwali

out the attached library card application for your child and return to me by this Thursday,
November 5th please so they can make the card by the time we go on to the library.
FRESH AIR FRIDAY Outing Meet at Aldergrove Bowl Ecological Park on
LeFevre Rd. 8:50am. Friday, November 23rd.
Children love the outdoors! So, we will embrace
the opportunity to enjoy the trees, birds, wetlands, bugs,
wildlife, living plants, the sky, clouds and fresh air together!
Snack is provided. We will have a picnic snack, and have a
nature walk around the beautiful park and pond. It is so healthy and feels so good to get
out in the wilderness. Classroom closed this day.

shine, but if it is torrential rains, I will let you know in the
morning on our Facebook page if it will be a classroom day
instead.

LeFevre Road, off of 8th Ave, Aldergrove. (do not go to the

Remembrance Day Assembly For those who want to join in on THURSDAY, November 8th, we will join in on the
Remembrance Day Assembly with the school 10:40am. If you have had a family member
who served in the Army, Navy or Air force and want us to remember them specifically,
send along a picture or photocopy of the picture for a classroom project wreath we are
making for the assembly. Write their name on the picture please. Thanks for carrying on
and helping our children remember our brave soldiers who defended and continue to
defend our country to this day.
Flu Season on its Way With the flu season starting, we want to keep our little ones free of flu
and illness. Please do not attend StrongStart if you or your child are
ill. If you or your child has a fever, nose discharge, coughing, vomiting,
diarrhea or any signs of feeling under-the-weather, please stay at home
to recuperate. Thank you for modelling washing hands often, and/or
using hand sanitizer after coughing or sneezing or wiping your nose.
Teach your children to cough into their sleeve or arm instead of into their hand where
germs would get transferred from their hand to the toys.
‘Coughs and Sneezes Spread Diseases, Catch Them in Your Elbow’ ☺
*Please fill out the following Library card Application for your Child
and return to Louise by this Thursday, November 8th.
Together, creating wonderful memories and
